I have no idea if any of mine have been stolen on the web, i've had a book of my poetry notes stolen from my bag when i was still in school and that upset me enough! Never mind a whole poem being stolen.
I hope you let the person who stole your poem know that you knew about it. (I think i phrased that right, lol)

Mine have been stolen as well...
But I always go and confront the person.
I can't stand it; it erks me as well. If you can't write, don't steal someone else's hard earned work, for Christs' sake.
    Anyways...
    Have a nice day.

No matter what you do or who you tell, someone's always bound to take your poems without permission.

How do you know when your work has been plagiarized?

For instance how you found your work to be plagiarized, Fetus?

    ^^^
Google the title of your poem or a few lines of your poem.

You will be quite amazed to see some of your very own work on people's Myspace and other.
Sometimes they will post the true poets name but many times they post it as their own work.

I have tried this and cannot even find my own original work. Are there certain punctuation marks you use?

    Please give an example.

Again, no one has answered my question. How do you check google to see if your poems have been plagiarized?

    Please give an example.

I have tried this and my own original work does not show up. Same to the quotation response.

No, that means I'm doing something incorrectly.

If I typed it in correctly I would be able to find my own work.

As I said, please give an example as to how you would type in your poem.

No, but even if I did I don't think it would bother me, unless of course i opened a book and found my work...but on a website like this....ha, if someone doesn't have the skills or inspiration to write thier own poems, and they see that mine are worth stealing, then they can do as they like, I lose nothing, but they do.

Jess - I have done this many times. It doesn't even show my own work.

  • Pianist

    Indeed.

    Can't find a damn thing.

    Nobody--
It's mostly love poems that get stolen. I searched a lot of mine and three of my love poems have been stolen.
If you have love poems, search your best one.

You can also Type your name (Nobody) into Google and search that...It's interesting to see what you find. Type names of poems or stanzas from poems in Google and see what you find as well.

    Good luck.

    No I haven't.

But I have a feeling that if my poems were stolen, I'd just laugh at the other person for doing so, because it would prove to me that they're just stupid. It would also probably flatter me a little, if someone though that I was good enough to plagerize. Hahaha.

I have had a poem stole before but I wrote a letter to the creator of the site and gave them a link to this site so they would know I wrote it first and then they just gave me credit for it.. and ever since then I havent had anything else stolen.. *touch wood*

I don't care if anyone steals my stuff. The older stuff is on either 5.25" floppy or school exercise books, and the newer stuff's been widely circulated enough amongst friends and family that if someone stole it, I guess I should go seeking royalties, right?

Yup. i did the google thing and found loads of people who are passing off my poems as their own. The people i've sent messages to about it have taken the poems down quite ageeably.
Except one person who at first tried to insist the poem was hers and when i proved her wrong, told me.
"I don't care. Report me if you want, i'll just post it somewhere else. All my friends think i wrote it so ha"

I thought.. you sound like a lovely little thief.
It's pathetic. Especially when you ask nicely the first time round. It's kind of upsetting to. =(

    Gem,

That person should be embarassed. How lame that she stole your work because she's not creative enough to think of something on her own.

    aw Gem

thats so sad.. but just try and look on the bright side someone liked ur poem so much that the sad and weird individual wanted credit for it. IT isnt your fault that this tallentless person has to try and jump on your coat tails.

    hehe, excellent descriptions of her.
She's emailed me again but i can't get to the site cos it's blocked on the college computers but i'll be sure to let you know what she's said now, lol
