Take a look at my poem Anticipation. I asked my girl friend what she wanted me to write about, and she said Anticipating. So, the title came before the poem on that one. I am prolly close to 50/50 on which i come up with first.

I used to feel the same way...that the poem had to come first...then the title. But lately, I've been trading titles with a friend and I've come up with some pretty good poems..it's a really fun challenge and you might be surprised at what you are capable of.... I've written 14 poems that way (I'm not asking you to go read and comment.... because this is not the correct category for that... just showing that poems can be written from pre-thought-of titles) If you want to know which ones, feel free to email me

I think that you can write either way. Just for kicks try writing it both ways. You might find that you have two poems.

I disagree strongly...I often make the title first, and I know many great writers who do the same thing
