i "love" him, how can I tell how can I move on to a first date?

There's a guy in my school that I adore, we've been talking a lot lately, and been spending much time togehter, as much as our timetable and our friends allow. he doesn't know that I like him though, I don't know how to tell him, well I do, but I'm scared of being rejected, and then having to see him for the rest of the year. How can I ask him for a first date, without making it sound like one, and how can I find out if he likes me? Really likes me and not just as a friend?
I was told that I should text him saying that I like him if he says yes I do like you too, then I should continue and everything's fine, if he says no, then I should say I was drunk. Could you help me? he's making me go nuts !

I don't know why everyone says that texting someone doesn't let them know how you really feel or that you should always tell someone in person. As long as you say "the only reason I'm texting you is because I'm too nervous to do this in person" or something along those lines just shows that you like him even more, NOT less as everyone seems to think.

be brave and tell him in person. if you aren't comfortable enough with him to do that, then you aren't comfortable enough to date him.

Just ask him to go to the movies with you, or where ever you want to go. There's no reason why you have to confess your feelings to him at this point, just get to know him better and maybe he will start to feel the same.
