i have wondered this for a while...

if someone tries to kill themselves and fails, would they really get sent to court and then prison or just a fine or nothing at all?

I don't think anything REALLY happens, other than maybe a while in the pysic ward. I don't understand why suicide is a crime anyway.

    A Riddle:
"What is the only crime punishable if not commited, but not pushiable if commited?"
    Suicide.

Yes, Suicide is illegal. You do not go to jail, however. You end up under Suicidal Watch (Almost like a house arrest) or in an assylum.

    Yeah..

i dont think you go to jail..well at least most of the time. Suicidal people, to them, are considered to have a mental problem. So i think they would require them to stay at a mental hospital or an institution or something. Not prison.

As of 1963, six states consider suicide a crime. Those states being North and South Dakota, Washington, New Jersey, Nevada, and Oklahoma.

If you want to read something interesting, check this out. May I remind you this is a draft addition to the homocide of each state and not my own words.

"Voluntary death" shall mean ending one's own life at the right time according to one's own ethical principles and by the means of one's own choosing. To be certified and recorded as a voluntary death the choice must meet four criteria:
    1. It must be a benefit to the candidate for death, not a harm.

    2. It must be a rational decision by the candidate for death.

    3. It must be planned well in advance, taking the opinions of those who will be affected into account.

    4. It must be regarded as a commendable and admirable choice by others who know all the facts.

There you have it my suicidal friends. If you really feel the need to commit the act most foul, follow these steps. I doubt you will die by your own hand if you do.

ohh i asked this question in another post but it answers it here. i didn't think you went to jail. i mean i've tried a few times and have just ended up under suicide watch in a psych hospital the police didn't even suggest me being charged and goin to jail....if people were to go to jail i think its a load of bullshit. most suicidal people can't be responsible for their actions. they are mentally unwell.

It's illegal to "euthenise" ones self.....other words suicide, but the courts usually would make a person go see a psychiatrist the most I presume they would get is community service or suspended sentence.

HELL NO!... if you try to kill urself it never even gets to the court.. from wut i no from a bunch of my friends and myself.. depending on how u tried ot kill ur self.. I'll use OD.

So you jsut popped a bunch of pills. Your throwing up on the verge of death. (sorry for saying it so lightly) and your mom comes home and sees you, screams, doesn't understand wuts going on, but knows somethings terrible off and takes you to the hospital. The hospital has your stomach pumped. Once you feel better, they ask if it was a suicide attept if it was and your under 18 your get sent to a mental health facility and will probably stay there for at least 10 days or until they know your safe. If your over 18 its up to you to decide if you want to go to the hospital (mental health facitliy) but yah. I don't think it would ever go to the court. I know many people that have tried it, gone through with it, had it work, sadly enough i no the whole course. All of these people were under 18 so I'm not completely sure how it would go if you were over 18.

    Hope i helped

Hun you won't go to jail.
    You won't get fined.

You might be sent away to be watched.
Or sent to a therapist to talk.
    But you won't get arrested.

I have no idea who said you would. It's untrue.

No one stated you would be arrested. It is simply considered a crime in six states as of 1963.

Solitude - You don't simply recover after being purged. Often times people will die for refusing to tell medical counsel on what pill they overdosed, usually leading to vital organ and heart failure. Others are incapacitated and cannot give information.

If ever put in a situation where someone's life is in danger from an overdose, be sure to bring the bottle, pill, or substance to the ER. It may just save someone's life.

Jails are allready crowded enough. If they jailed suicidal people think how bad it would be than.

yeah, u will never be jailed for attempted suicide but legal action can definetly be taken against a person, hopefully everyone gets the help they need because that is what the law is there for to protect your individual rights and safety as a community... if your life is in danger the law is there to help, not to send u to jail....who would even think of putting a suicidal person in jail, thats just completely ridiculous...many people would probably be advised to get a psych-analysis, to determine the stability of the mind.....and then would go to a clinical psychiatrist(if needed)... atleast thats what its like here.
