Spelling and Grammar

Is it just me or does it annoy other people when writers don't use grammar or the proper spelling? I must have read so many articles talking about if you're serious about poetry you should do all this, but I still read poems written in text language.
    Your opinions please.

I agree with you, poetry should be written properly but when i'm on forums, sometimes i'll sleep and write "u" or "2". It's just quicker when your in a rush i guess

I agree with u as well, but when on the computer i dont tend to bother. wen im writing up someone for a competition or publishing company i make sure its ok but on poems and quotes as long as my punctuation is good and the spelling ok so the poem can b read properly, i dont mind.

Well when you "submit" a poem on here, at the bottom it say's "spell check" and I think it's a great thing. But ofcourse, not everyone uses it. And when you write and you don't use proper grammar or don't spell right it ruins the whole poem. I inderstand if it is a accident but if you know your spelling it wrong FIX IT!! And if you don't want to use spell check, than atleast double check it!

I noticed that the website autumatically deletes some words. For example, recently I wrote a poem that uses the word killed. The website deleted it, but I solved the problem by mispelling the word. This is probably the reason alot of people mispell a word or two. I talked about it with some other people that use the site, and it happens to them to.

Honestly, it bothers me a little bit, okay maybe a lot. But nonetheless, their poem meanings are astounding, well most of them. I hate grammar mistakes, especially when you can't really do anything about it afterwards. But, hey, as long as the message is sent, and well received of course, then there is no real problem.

lets be honest here now =]].

    theres a difference to me

    ...

when you write a poem you SHOULD use correct spelling and grammar. but when your chatting with friends and whatnot then i dont see a problem to shorten words or spell them differently =]]

nicely said^, when im writing on boards like this or when im chating i dont use proper spelling/grammer, but i also think that we make mistakes sometimes and cant help but mispell some words or use improper words, i myself have done it in alot of my poems, ill forget to add ' to some words or use words like aint and isnt, but it helps show we are only human.

I agree that in a poem we should not include woRdS ThAt loOK liKe ThIS or 2morrow, that's fine for chatting. People should use the spell checker and if you just aren't the greatest speller we can't hold it against you!

i think in ur publishing a poem or contesting it , then yes , but if your just thinking of words and emotions then you get then down fast to keep the thought

iIt doesn't really annoy me. Let's face it, people have different languages so there are times that grammar is wrong or spelling is incorrect.

Personally I can`t stand all of that computer jargon. As soon as I see it I leave their site.I think it takes so much from the writing, I`m not sure why but for me it takes away from the seriousness of the poem. I don`t enjoy reading them.

I try to use the proper grammar and spelling, but I'm from Belgium so I usually speak Dutch, only my poetry is in English, I don't know why, but I think it sounds better and writes easier. When I write a spelling mistake I'm happy that people tell me so I can change it. But tomorrow-2morrow is indeed too much

i think that unless a different kind of style of writing is used for creative purposes, if you're writing a poem or story, grammar and spelling should automatically be included in your editing/writing process.

I say you should not use text just for the fact that other people don't under stand it

It's not just in poems that bad grammar or spelling annoys me. Sure, some people make typos, but hey, everyone knows that 'you're' is the contraction of 'you are' (ahem, gem), not 'your'. Jeesh, you'd think no one here went to middle school.
