The Owner of this site.

    Hi ho guys and dolls,

So as many of you know, the owner of this potentially fine website, Janis Krummins, has not visited his creation as far as we know, for many months.

This lack of interest is not very fair given the large number of improvements both mods and regular users collated and requested from him almost half a year ago!

As a mod I am unsure what to do. Many people have tried to contact Janis to no avail and yet almost every day there are situations that the Mods are not fully able to deal with, the whole Ken debacle [which is ongoing] being classic example.

And so I'm opening up what has been a Mod discussion to the public? What do you think can and should be done? There was talk of trying to buy the site off him and run it Commie stlye...but he didn't get back to us...

    Please get involved in this.

    Cheers.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the site, the mods are doing great and every member seems happy being here, as far as the owner, I cannot answer of what to do without him.

In my opinion, there is nothign we -can- do about the site and who runs it.
Janis will have to come back, or nothing can be changed/done.
    But, maybe I'm only naive.

Well I agree with the more mods. We have good mods but alot of them only have forum options not chat.

I always thought this should happen..

There should be mods for the chatroom.. and that is all they can moderate. There should be mods for the forums.. thats all they can moderate.. and mods for the actual poems and quotes we submit to the site, in which they can only moderate such things. Seperate moderators to each ''unit'' of this site, might just lead to more people following the rules. Who knows?

Only my opinion.. don't take offense. Cheers.

Isnt that how it is now? Some mods who manage the forums have no options for the chat and some mods in the chat have no options in the forum.

Well.. I have seen Joe in the chatroom and in the forums? I don't know. I assumed. Lol. =).

yes, there are some chat mods and some forum mods. But there are also a few that have access to both.

This is great guys keep it coming. Though I'm alarmed when people say they think there is nothing wrong with the site!

Oh the blissful ignorance of non Modship!...

So you all want more mods by the sounds of things, especially for the chat room?

    Anything else?

Yeah, the puncuatoin thing with the "s and 's really bother me.

I'm surprized no one has mentoined the voting system yet. At least fix it if you don't get rid of it, maybe make it so you must leave a comment if you want to leave a vote, that'd make people think more about the quality of the poem before they vote.

    Hey guys,

if you don't mind my saying, I don't think we need any more ideas of how to improve the site, as we had a huge discussion about that a long time ago and lots of people got involved, and we collated all the suggestions and sent them off...but of course nothing happened.

What i was asking you guys to brainstorm is what should be done about the fact the Janis has abandoned the site. Now I know for many of you things in here seem great, but trust me, speaking as a Mod, they aren't nearly as good as they could be, if the complaints and problems we have had to deal with are anything to go by.

Generally speaking more administration is never a good thing, but in this case, it may be the answer. Having enough mods to monitor the site and the chat is essential. Mods have a life too and at times there are fewer people around to curtail the bs than there should be. In the case of enforcement, it is better to have too many than too few.

As for the owner of the site being absentee.....not much that can be done. It falls upon all of us to make it a better site, with our actions, as it is apparent that we can do one of three things: 1) Leave, 2) Go all "Lord of the Flies" (which happened briefly), or 3) Manage ourselves and keep writing (which is why a lot of us are here).

Fair points Bill, all very sound. But even with 10000 Mods we would still be unable to deal with certain issues effectively, regardless of member support etc due to the lack of powers and abilities we have, and the poorly updated programming of this site.

Kevin, it comes back to this: Can it be fixed, now, with an un-responsive owner? No, otherwise it would have been. So, each of us must ask ourselves, can we live with it the way it is and if the answer is no, do we remove ourselves from the situation?

It has been apparent to me for a long time that the sites owner(s) have little or no interest in the day to day operations and thus have no desire to fix anything.

It truly sucks when people have a place to display and share with others a piece of themselves and ownership does not want to make it better. But, it is what it is and sadly has been for a while.

I know what it's like to be a site owner of a popular site. Well... not OWNER as such, but inventor and public face of the game. And I'll say this: there are always circumstances of the way things happen that can leave you wanting to not touch your creation with a barge pole. Sometimes for a short time, and sometimes for... well, for a long time.

I've made suggestions about this site before, and ones based on making it more commercially viable while adding a sense of both justice and fun to it. But they went ignored.

Sometimes you just have to accept that websites often have a natural lifespan that has nothing to do with the creativity and ambition of the people that use it, and everything to do with that of the owners, creators, financiers and administrators.

    Kevin:

I would be willing to jump in and help with anything that is ot a problem.

What rights does Dianz have? Can he do some of the programming? Can he allow access for someone lse to fix some of the problems and programming issues?

If so why not take it to him and try to get him more involved?

Yes, babe, I guess you can say that I am not informed on these matters simply because most of the conversations like this stay in the mod's forum and not in the public.

Let me know what Ican do ... Even if it is moderating some I will.

    To the poster above.

Yes we are all very greateful for Janis creating this site and paying money to keep it going. However, there comes with ownership a certain responsibility to keep things in order to and to secure the wellbeing of everyone who uses your creation.

And he is not doing that.

    One thing we should change!

Stop people from having the same username, its so confusing if you havent someone on your favourites (because 20 is not enough) and you wanna check there poems and there are too many people with the same name!!
