Why is heartbreak formed from things that shouldn't matter?

I cannot say I've ever been in love, but I have been infatuated many times. I just wish to understand why it is we torture ourselves over and over in that search for happiness. And another question...why do we think that love is the key to such happiness? Are we brainwashed by all the music, the lyrics, the poetry...the movies that we see? Or is it human instinct to desire love?

Eh, I'd just like opinions and such. I'm rather curious, is all.

In my opinion and in my experience, love is what has made my life worthwhile.
If it wasn't for Marcus i would have given up a long time ago
And i wasn't brainwashed by any movies or songs cos he was unexpected and each new feeling i feel because of him is a feeling that could never be shown in a movie or song.
I never knew i desired love till i met him. I think it depends on the person.
    Thats my opinion anyway
    Anyone else?

But would you need him if you didn't have him? It's that you love him and everything, of course. What I'm saying is why do we search for it? Maybe you didn't, but if you just go to any online dating site or just look around you, there are thousands searching for 'The One.'

Hmm.. when you put it that way..
I guess it's human nature. It's like how a child would crave the love of a parent. As we grow older, we start to crave a different nature of love.
It's not just humans is it? Swans and foxes stay with the same partner thoughout life if they can.
I think it's the feeling we get from loving and being loved in return. It feels good so we feel good.
I don't know if i'm making sense. It made sense in my head =)

It does make sense. :-) Sometimes I wish it weren't so, which is what brought up the topic.

I would need my boyfriend, even if I didn't have him.

I always knew that I needed something, I just didn't know what it was until I met him.

    That make sense at all?

Yes, many people I know believe that love is the key to happiness . I personally think I can live without that kind of love . Friendship Love I need, but love like THAT I can live without . I think that it`s partly human instinct, and maybe the poetry, songs, and movies . It makes you wonder what it would feel like you `knoe ? Like the quote "They read you Cinderella; You hoped it would come true ."
For me, if I hadn`t longed for love before, I wouldn`t have the strong mentality that I have now . But now, I don`t think love is happiness . I don`t think it`s needed . I guess it`s just something that we long to find at times .

I would never have to be in a relationship. I figure if I've lasted 15 years w/o one, it won't kill me to go a little longer. I don't feel imcomplete or anything like that either. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have someone special.. we all would.. but I don't NEED one. Life is about more than love.. even if it is a big part of it. I just fill myself w/ other things like best friends and good memories!! ^_^

I don't personally go out looking for love, because that always seems to end heartbreak if you go about it that way.. I prefer to think that love will find me eventually... but I don't need it.. not by any streatch of the imagination.
