Alternative Therapies.

    Hi Ho,

inspired by a discussion in another thread, I'd thought I'd spark up a wee talk about the abovementioned topic.

Now I'll say straight up I don't believe in them. I think they are mostly all subjective in their results and deliberately vague in their claims. But when I say that I'm talking about things like Reiki, Kinesology, Crystal healing, chanting, all that kind of stuff.

Anything that is based on some kind of massage is ok with me, as is Herbalism, to an extent.

Do any of you have any interesting stories about healing?...maybe you went to a healer and found it really worked...or maybe you didn't.

Please discuss if it suits ya.

    Em.

Didn't I say to you that i used to be a Reiki healer [did some Sekhem too!]. So, really old bean nothing is holding me back, I've been there, done that and the T-shirt sucked.

I'll say it again. If Reiki, or Quantum touch or whatever you want to call it actually did the things you say it can, it would no longer be a wacky alternative therapy put forward by zealots like yourself, using words like retards to describe people who don't understand a highly dubious form of healing. If energy healing worked, plain and simple, it would be used in hospitals to treat cancer, which it most certainly is not. They use real medicine and therapies, because when the chips are down no one in their right mind is going to choose a persons hand to cure them of a fatal disease over scientifically tested medicines.

Can I ask what a healer who calls people retards because they don't understand something says to himself in the morning to justify such hypocrisy?

In any case mate, I checked out the quantum touch website and thought it was a complete joke. They had pictures of roses that had been "touched" and stood up straighter longer than the normal ones! OMG! How amazingly deep their research and justifications are to be making such bold claims to thousands of people.

Not one bit of scientific data, no links on reputable tests....just weird looking people bigging it up with testimonials and every second link a buy! buy! buy.

Your energy reads to me like you have latched onto this therapy as a way to deal with something negative that happened to you....and in doing so, choosing a belief out of sadness, you have done the same thing religious people often do.

No investigation, no solid research, no logical thought or room for other possibilities.

I am not a sceptic, I am just not easily convinced without good evidence.

Moses Lewis Linton who was born in Nelson County Kentucky was by my research one of my great-great-great uncles. He was a physician teacher who edited the St Louis Medical and Surgical Journal. He was a vigorous opponent of homeopathy and taught that nature should be allowed to take its course in the treatment of illness. An original theorist on microbes before the discoveries of Louis Pasteur, and Robert Koch, he was the author of “Outlines of Pathology” [1851] Medical Science and Common Sense [1859], and Medicine for the Millions {1860]

In spite of being temped to be bias toward the opinion of my ancestor with the impressive credentials I am not opposed to some of the logic of what homeopathy wishes to promote today

With the recognition that our creator designed our body's to work synergistically, working in harmonious cooperation bringing about total balance. Everything we do in our lifestyle has an effect on the synergism of our body

I believe subjective therapies are mainstream in the treatment of subjective diseases

Modern spirituality is the new religion, and just like it's senile older brother, it brings with it many harmful and poorly thought out beliefs that the needy masses soak up in their quest to self define and then realize they don't serve anything but the survival of the belief system.

And it always costs lots of money....lots.

    Asprin, Amen brother.

I agree with Seinfeld on analgesics. Few people want regular strength any more. We have gone from extra strength, to extra-extra strength, and yet further to maximum strength. I’ll tell you what just find out how much of that stuff it takes kill me and then back off a milligram.

Not far from anywhere in the world there are doctor feel goods practicing medicine without a license
Pain is subjective at times, but few people realize how useful it can be
Yes, I am a hypocrite because as I preach against the danger of addictive drugs, I am addicted to the ones they say causes cancer, and other diseases
Scientist are preaching chemical balance while we all ignore them for the most part
If you are like most of us you probably use at least one potentially harmful drug besides being exposed to countless harmful chemicals daily

So what are you preaching Kevin? That our human nature will ultimately lead us to the healthiest choices?

    No Micheal.

I am saying that when you look at the ridiculous claims of spiritual healers and alternative therapists concerning their version of energy healing, for example, taking an asprin suddenly seems like the most Holy response to minor illness.

I am not talking right now about the evils of a pill based healing system, I'll save that for another rant.

Yes I can see your point now Kevin. By the same token I did not mean to compare a harmless aspirin, which taken religiously in moderation has been proven to have health benefits, to dangerous drugs. As of now you are correct that I cannot testify to the effectiveness of the alternative therapies you are examining.

apparently aspirin helps prevent heart attacks in America, as advertised on the commercials, but in Britain thats not the case. Maybe drugs have no affect at all outside our imagination?

I can meditate and build up the energy through controlled breathing; I've gotten to the point where the energy in my hands is so powerful I would have to pry them apart -- people have felt the energy through my hands by touch, as well. I wouldn't claim it's healing, but I know for myself it's a cleansing process. I wouldn't label this reiki or any of the other things... I just go by intuition and feeling

I think a lot of what you're talking about is belief and intent. The placebo affect... I've read that people have been given downers and acted as if they were stimulants (as the other people in the room were actually given the speed and acted accordingly), and vice versa. The world used to be flat. I've been trying to adopt an attitude of openness,.. of only relying on personal experience, not doubting or believing until I experience it myself. You quoted someone, i think "argue for your limitations, and surely they're yours." .. that one's stuck with me. imagining the possibilities is nice.

I can see how these practices can be muddled and alienated into a different species by consumerism as well.

I'm a reflexologist and my clients come in sessions usualy two or three,so i can actually ask the my clients if they feel better, and i can actually see improvement in health.
I always document my clients history and i know that reflexology is an excellent alternative therapy for almost all ailments and the price isn't to high considering the non harmful, not chemical relief that is achieved.

Massage in any form is different from energy healing though lashes.

Being touched in a gentle caring way, even by someone who is not trained to do so, can at the very least, relax you enough that you might be a little less stressed. There is no dispute about the benifits of massage among the medical profession...it's real practical on body therapy.

It's not quite the same as someone standing over you, or behind you with their hands out, telling you they are sending good energy into your aura.

    "But I can't feel anything?"
"Oh that doesn't matter, the energy is still getting through"
"But shouldn't i feel someting if something is happening?"
"The energy is subtle, you have to relax and be attuned to feel it"

Uh huh....and at about £40 a session, you'd think these kinds of questions would be logical and answered directly, but Reiki practitioners all over the world are making heaps of money for nothing.

    Smart.

yes reflexology has more contact but its a lot deerper than you may think it works in a similar way to reiki [i noticed you capitilised reiki]and retunes a persons metabolism rids toxins painand alilments are a state of mind.
have you ever expierienced reflexology or any other kind of alternate therapy?
and how do you think people healed themselves before modern medicine?i have met Gurus in the foothill of the hymalayas in rishiskesh where i studied yoga for a couple of years that are 120 years old and they swear by reiki and other alternative therapies.

Yes Lashes, I know alot about alternative therapies, I used to be Reiki healer! I think it's a very subjective thing that has not been properly investigated, and until it is I won't commit to it as a valid medical option.

It's fine for colds and relaxing, but anything else and you go to a doctor!...and as a get out clause, Reiki practitioners will even tell you that, because they know that if they don't and you expect Reiki to cure you of your cancer, and you die from lack of proper medical treatment, they are potentially lliable.

I'll say it again, I am not a hardened sceptic, I just don't like weak thinking, which seems to pervade the spiritual/alternative world.

PS, I used a capital R for Reiki because that is it's name, and names things should have a capital, nothing more.

    A story from me
I was talking to my friend but she was kinda weird nowadays but i didn't take it as a serious thing but 2 days ago she said that she has been using Lida and today it made her to be really dreamy and she says that it makes me sleepy all the time and we searched that it's a really bad thing she had bought it as a china plant to lose weight but search says that it includes ecstasy, some kind of illegal things...and i can't make her stop it beacuse she says that it really stops her hungriness and i can't make her stop it(SO BE AWARE THEN BUY AND DON'T BUY LIDA)
