Poetry is about expression. Maybe it was supposed to be like that with the grammar? Maybe he made a spelling mistake--so what?

This site is repersented by poetry mostly about cutting and abuse that yes some may be to heal but others are written by people assuming they can actually write. Once in a while, there will be a writer spotted with talent. I don't know much about it seeing as how I could probably be placed in the first or second thing I just wrote :p

But my poetry as a whole is repersented by me and me only. I pick how it looks. I pick how it is expressed. I also pick whether to display it or whether to keep it a secret. If I let my poetry be repersented by a majoritory of the poems here I'd be in trouble but then again what do I know. I'm just an idiot with a keyboard.

Not always true. My English teacher this week pointed out a poem that did not follow proper grammar rules yet was written by a famous poet and is considered to none-the-less be well written. It used a noun as if it were a verb. You might say it was becaus ethe person was famous but I see it as a way that an idea was expressed.

True, too many grammar mistakes might need to be tightened up to a few or mostly one to none but if I spot one mistake I am not going to go all haywire. Also, shoudln't originality be enfored on a poetry writing site? I think Illu's poem was very original.

BTW: Crunkz are you using proper grammar here:
    [Hooded, I climb tumble fall
    ride glide stride
    crawl]

Maybe it's full of mistakes because English is not his first language. Have you ever thought of that? Kudos to him for trying. If I tried to write a poem in another language I wouldn't nearly do as good as he does.

Well said Diana. For those who have embraced English as a second language and write in that language, they deserve a break. I only speak English and if their poetry was written in any other language I would not be able to read it and enjoy it. I enjoy all of Adel's poems...they are written with passion.

That being said, if English is your native language, do not write as if you are using it for the first time.

I have read many poems since being on this site. I applaud the work of Illuminati, Adel, End Of Eternity and a few others that english is their second lauguage. I have friend who's language is Hindu. He explained to me how long it takes for him to do a poem. He first writes it in Hindu then translates it to English. If you think about that and how things are phrased diffrently in languages. It is amazing in it's self. So I for one will continue to read what they write. Hopefully they will continue to do this for a very long time.

Left out the A in a friend. Thought I would point that out myself before someone else gets the chance.

I think Crunkz, a comment on Illuminati's poem pointing out the errors would have been enough, creating a whole thread to discuss a few small mistakes is overreacting.

But, you do tend to do that don't you?

What i dont understand is why this matters so much....i mean yes it very annoying but its their style of writing, its part of the site, so if all u ever want to do is complain about thigns, why are you still here? i am sure you can find a site where all these thigns that u hate are enforced, I have been a member of this site for almost 3 years, and yes it bugs me, but the good things about this site over power the bad, at least to me they do.

I agree with Diana,I thought that poem was absolutely beautiful ,I believe you should do your best to avoid errors but in this case I thought the poem was so good I didn`t really notice them. Then again I wasn`t looking for mistakes just meaning.

Crunkz, I'd advise you to watch your posts, and by that I mean the agressive tone of them.

Calling everyone on the site a childish name is really not a smart way to convince anyone of anything, and it's the first step in becoming a problem member that gets penality points.

You can't take criticism, that much is clear, but I don't want to have to give you penalty points for being overly rude to someone who challenges you.

And on the topic. There is no one I am aware of, certainly none of you and not me either, skilled or intelligent enough to lay down the law of what is and is not a poem, grammatical errors aside.

Don't be a literary Nazi. Encourage don't chastise, people do not change through punishment, not long term.

Or and the weekly poetry entries are not submitted by the hundreds. The Mods who dig the compitition pick 3 poems each and then Dainz picks 3 winners from those selections....so, we like chocolate, comments on our poems and nice people on the website.

not that we'd ever accept bribes to get selected.

Poetry is very forgiving when it comes to grammer. Usually it's how eloquently the poet can express his ideas that matter. Having perfect grammer does nothing if your thoughts don't flow and you're unable to put it down onto paper. Experienced poets that are passionate about writing always develop their own style and throw the rules aside anyways. Contrary to what your teachers may say! .... If you're a stickler for perfect grammer....if that's your only problem...you can always hire an editor!
