As a freshman in college (I go to the University of San Francisco) I can tell you that while things do change, its not necessarily yourself changing, its yourself becoming open to new things and allowing yourself to adapt to who you are and who you want to be. So yes it is a change but its not like sudden drastic alteration...although it possibly could be. College is amazing, and I love it a million times more than I liked high school. I hope you have a great experience and keep us posted! What university are you going to? |

I am sitting here now in the computer lab at college. I love it! It allows me to grow as a person and I am able to meet and learn about new people, traditions, and many other things. |

I am in the computer lab at my college as well, as Sherry said, it allows you to meet new people and further understand the college life to some degree. I can tell you freshman year of college was by far the best thing that ever happened to me, Meeting new people, learning, parties, and yes working hard, but if you take it seriously and work hard, but also have fun while doing it, then you will walk away with a lot of knowledge, not just in the classes you take, but you will also become knowledgable about life in general, and how to communicate and get along with fellow students. I am now in my 2nd year of college, it's hard, it's a lot of work, but in the end I will be ahead of everyone that doesn't have a degree. |

"you'll find new friends. big deal." while it has some shred of truth its not that black and white. not everyone reacts to college the same way. i've met many new friends but without the old ones, i would seriously be lost. this is completely lame but listen ot the girl scout song: "make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the others gold"...wow I can't believe I just said that...but I did. Deal with it! |

I am a freshman in college, and I am 5 hours away from home, and I knew not a single person when I got here. But it is easy. Everyone is starting college, not knowing many people. you are almost forced to just be open and meet new people. Its fun. You learn who you click with and who just doesn't have the right personality for you. Sometimes I get homesick and miss my friends from home, but you get huge breaks with no homework and plenty of time to be with old friends. Your friends that you graduated with are going through the same thing you are, so when you are on the breaks, you just pick up right back where you left off. Some people do change and you will find that you don't really know them anymore, but I believe you change yourself so you end up being okay with it. It depends if you are leaving home to live at your college or if you stay at your house and commute to college. If you go away to college, you definitely change. Not in a bad way. You just become more open to things, you don't have to force yourself to take big leaps, you just take them, its a fun experience, and you definitely find out who you are and what is important to you. You will love it, hate it, and never ever regret it. |

I am in my final year, I just did five years back to back. Don't sweat college, enjoy it, keep your homework done, your books open and enjoy the ride. Use the services they offer. They will have tons of things going on frosh week to let you meet and greet and every one is new and scared. But don't get caught up in too much fun..have fun, but remember work lol. it is an eye and mind opener, you will be exposed to so much, new ideas, incredible creativity! its a great adventure! enjoy |

If you don't know what to major in, then you should take a lot of different classes. Look at your interests, and take any kind of class that has to do with that interest. For example, my sister whose in 12th grade is taking two MATC (College Credit) classes at the moment, one being in forensic science and the other one being a nurse assistant. She's also taking elective classes such as Creative Writing and Business classes. This opens up new opportunities for her, because she's able to get a better look of what she'd like to be in the future. |
