My Suicide Speech

Well i while ago i asked for ideas on speeches and this really helped he to get the feeling in the poem so tell me how you like it thanks!!Mandz

Is Teen Suicide becoming a problem in the United States today?

Kasey was part of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-day Saints. He was very faithful to his priest and to his family. He was very close to his family and was an honor roll student. He loved to ride motorcycles and love to be with his family. He was well liked and didn’t care what other people thought of him. In his eyes he was perfect. He always spent time with his family and always went to church. What happened to this boy was something no one could understand. He never did drugs or even drank alcohol. He thought if you had to do that to be liked it was not worth being liked.
Suicide, definition, a form of self killing. What is the first thing that comes to mind? Stupidity, an easy way out, a bad choice? Well its definitely not a way out, it is stupid and it certainly is not a good choice. This topic is hard for anyone to talk about. Its not really spoken about it schools and there is not a lot of education on it. Maybe this could be a cause to why teen suicides are so high.
Over thirty thousand people in the United States each year commit suicide and with over a third of them being teens between the ages of 15 and 19, I think that is a little out of control. Most suicides are completed by fire arms because that leaves no room for mistake. This still does not rule out anything else used though. With suicide being in the top three leading causes of death in the United States in 2001 and 2006, coming before homicide and abuse, I would say teen suicide is becoming a problem in the United States today. In a poll taken it showed that about 27% of high schoolers said that they have had thought about suicide. The rates for suicide have tripled in the past thirty years. That is three times as much as it was in the 70’s! Suicide is at the highest between the ages of 15-19 than between any other age groups. Still think its not a problem?
Suicide is a irreversible solution to a very fixable problem. When a person thinks suicide is a way out they feel helpless, weak, permanently hurt, and the feeling there is no way to escape all the problems besides by killing themselves. Well this is far from the truth. There are other ways.
Most suicidal people show signs that they are going to try to commit suicide weeks before they actually do. As a matter of fact four out of five people show clears signs and actually give hints that they are going to attempt suicide. Suicides first sign is depression. So if you see that one of your friends is depressed talk to them, keep an eye on them, and if you think your friend is in danger go to an adult you can trust. Even if your friend says no, this could save his or her life and they will thank you in the end.
Do you still think suicide is not a problem in the United States? Well think of it this way, about every two hours one teen commits suicide. So when you are spending time at a movie or chilling with friends, playing a sport, or spending time with that special someone, one teen just killed themselves. Makes you feel a little bit uncomfortable, I would say.
There are about 2,000 deaths for every 20,000,000 teens in the United States. That’s on an average of seven people a day! In two thousand one about 1,600 teens that committed suicide, that was about five people a day. Suicide under control? I don’t think so.
Suicide becoming a major problem in the States today and increases more every year. More women are likely to attempt suicide but men are more likely to complete suicide. In 2006 86% of the suicides were completed by men, that left a small 14% of suicides for women.
Lets take our state. Montana wonderful, peaceful, beautiful, well, when it comes to suicide it’s not. Montana had a rating of 19.3 percent of suicides. That is about 170 suicides. Most suicides happen in the western states and we just happen to be one of them.
This is ridiculous! So many suicides happen each year and we are doing nothing to stop them. Sure we have suicide hot lines and all that fun stuff but who actually is going to call some random person over the phone and tell them they are just about to kill themselves? Yah didn’t think very many.
There has to be some way to decrease the number of suicides in the United States, but how? Well there is always the options of telling teens that suicide is not a way out and will not solve any of your problems. When someone commits suicide they create even more problems. Financial issues for the family and a great loss in a member of the family. This is also a great loss for your friends. This could cause a hard time for your friends and family to cope with and could even cause another suicide.
Kasey did everything like he always did every week. He went with a friends on Saturday, went to church on Sunday, visited his grandparents on Monday, but this Tuesday was a little different. The first thought that ran through his mom’s mind was that he was lonely. He spent a lot of time with his family and had a few friends he had had for a long time.
What happened to Kasey was hard for his friends and his family. That Tuesday night he ended his life his sisters and brothers sat down stairs in horrible pain saying, “Why Kasey, Why?” This was a horrible loss for everyone and was not what was suppose to happen. It was May 2001, Kasey was 16.
I hope by standing up here and making this speech, I have made you look at suicide in a different way and showed you that suicide in teens is becoming a very big problem in the United States. When over 7 people a day commit suicide a day you know there has to be a problem. I’m not telling you now that you have found out some facts to be scared of suicide, yes it is scary but you can overcome it.
When the people hear the word suicide they think the person is crazy. Not true. Suicide can be caused by problems at home or school. Simply bulling someone to the point they can’t take it can lead them to suicide. So do your part for our country and keep violence and ignorance away from school.
If you see any signs of suicide in one of your friends get help and save a life. Don’t ever be scared to tell someone if you or someone else is in danger for killing themselves. Thanks!!

Wow that was a powerfull speech. You have very well in putting the facts in there. And I personally had no clue suicides where that high! Really good Speech!

its very interesting... a little long. but very good. its kinda funny cuz almost all my poems that i write are about suicide, cutting or some type of self destructive act. Its really hard to write about bunnies and rainbows when ur feeling like the world is coming to an end!!

It was a a powerfull speech.
And suicide is becoming a problem here in Australia because of the drought.

All we can do is try to help them. And make them see that they shouldn't commit suicide.

But its always gonna be a problem and it wont go away.

Me, I think suicide is selfish. They only think of themselves and not the people who care for them.
But thats just my oponion.

You have already said "family" 3 times in the first four sentences of your speech. I got bored.

Mandz, don't get offensive. She's only trying to help you.
I read the whole thing, and some words got repetitive. I take it you posted this to take critizism and get better right? I think you should show your teacher and have her help you with your sentences. All your facts are good and I like all of your ideas, just some things got repetitive. If I had this printed out and I were your teacher I would have a lot of things to say on it. Fragments, repetitive, grammar. I think it was excellent, you just have to work on getting better on writing your sentences.

A good writer takes critisizm, and uses it to get better. So don't get angry when someone has something negative to say about something you've written. I know it's hard to think that someone has something bad to say about something you care about and something you've written. try to use it productively.

well for a requirement for the report things had to repeated over and over...this is only the rough draft i will have the actually speech on here very soon...so thanks again Mandz

Nice speech, Suicide is a very big problen in the united states. I myself have thought about it, but could never go through with it because I thought that killing ones self is not a way to solve any problem. Things only get worse if you commit suicide, and things can never get better. Besides I love my family to much to risk hurting them. But anyways fabulous speech. (please dont get offended, but just a hint to help make it better, work on the fragments and grammer. Just trying to help....nice speech anyways)

hey wow that was a really amazing speech, and i was very overtaken by the number of suicdes in the usa.. the number of suicdes a year there r more than the number of people living here. we hav 4million people living here in new zealand. so i found that amazing to think that like 7 of my countrys was how many people committing suicide in the usa every year.. i think we have about 450 here each year i think i read that somewhere recently, but that is still a lot of people. Well well done on your speech hun, it was amazing xx
