    Xx The Soldiers xX

    The soldiers, they march,
    Into the unknown.
    Not knowing exactly,
    When they'll be home.

    They can't stop to think,
They have a job to carry out.
They have to hide all emotions,
Not allowed to scream and shout.

    It takes a brave man,
    to march into a war.
    Readying their guns,
    Ignoring the law.

    They have to live,
    with killing another man.
    For no reason at all,
except for a bit of land.

They must do as their asked,
    Without demanding why?
    Each soldier praying,
    That they do not die.

    The soldiers, they march,
    Into the unknown.
    Not knowing exactly,
If they'll make it home. ©

    Title: OORAH
    Date: Feb 13 2007

Pounds of gear he holds with his feet
Leading his men on, that he calls his fleet
Changing to Recon they enter a town
With 3 Marines laying there dead on the ground
Tears down the soldiers they quickly get mad
Reflecting on every Friend...everyone they've had
4 Marines are left, 1 gets shot out of the sky
another soldier just panics, Just screaming WHY!
Running for safety, With bullets coming past there face
the 3 soldiers left, sit and say there soldiers prayer grace

A mother and her children are filled with fear in there eyes
The mother holds em together "please dont hurt us she cries"
1 soldier comes, to assure and calm them down
The Other 2 marines, Shoot the sniper down

Mast Sarg gave them permssion to abort in one condition
Find The MIA soldier left in the city, Its there next mission
They leave the house with the family inside, They Say God Bless and leave
Once there long gone away, they same house gets hit with an R.P.G.

Rushing toward the building that is supposed to hold the missing soildier
As soon as the open the door One Marine gets shot 3 times in the shoulder
Blindly firing the Other 2 Marines clear out the path
Getting So Mad, Trying to make them feel there wrath
The Marine who was shot found himself standing up to give cover
He will fight for his Country, Family and his band of brothers

The Marines get fire in there eyes with the hand of god in there heart
Blasting there way through the Obstacles of the building, all doing there part
Finding the missing soldier, who is badly injured and can't walk
Crying to the soldiers, Saying Im sorry its my fault
He blames himself for the casualties of the marines who died
The marines shut him up and telling him look you tried

One Marines Carries the MIA soldier on his back and walks with his fleet
Heading back to the Camp Site, As every Military Man raises to there feet
Having a Moment of relief they easily and quickly become sad
As the leader of the group, gives the Sarg. All the dog tags
Of the men they saw, who gave there lives to fight
The Sarg. Clenches the dog tags in his hands with all this might

They Give one final speech about the mission they took and how it was Raw
Then after there done, every marine stood to there feet saluted and yelled..OORAH!

    Unbroken Pride
    Feb. 14

    Crash.
    He falls as sounds
    Like roaring beasts of fire
    tore ligaments to shadows
    and love to undying hate

    There.
    His future looks upon him
    Like death's grave frown
Bow your head in sorrow, soldier
    Your casket has been made

Yet he stand with pride dripping
down from the wounds of red
Though he grunts in silent pain
No fear leaked from his eyes
Yes, get up soldier, get on home
    They wait, they all wait.

Light your beacon through the night
    While bullets lay siege again
You're draining in power and strength
But go young soldier, to your fate
If so you die, die with pride
Die with no fear and none to hide

    Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
    by Twisted Heart
    October 7th, 2006

In the mist of the morning, she lays on the grave
A bouquet of roses in soft gentle blue
A tear of remembrance falls down her face
Linking her heart with her soul all anew.

Her mind starts to wonder, it's drifting in time
Back to the days of sunshine and charm
Their love was so simple, and so sublime
When she was tucked safely in his loving arms.

But the war came so fast and it took him away
To a land filled with death at the sight of a gun
And the tanks caused explosions almost every day
Killing the brothers, the fathers, and sons.

He promised to love her, and return to her side
When the war and the fighting were through
But now empty memories in her heart confide
For many years passed, without a clue.

He never returned though he promised that day
And not one person, knows where he's gone
She knows if he lived he'd find her someway
Because they had an unbreakable bond.

So each year that passes, she places the rose
Upon the tomb of the soldiers unnamed
In remembrance of all that died in the throws,
Of the war, that her one love, had claimed.

    Bob,
I understand the point you are trying to make. I for one am not normally one to enter discussion because I don’t like confrontation of any type. Especially if I feel I don’t know enough on the subject to warrant that discussion. However, I did fell compelled to answer this post after reading your feelings. I agree that the true heroes are the ones who sacrifice themselves on a daily basis without the recognition they deserve, the teachers, firefighters, police, and even down to the do-gooders that do not carry titles as these. I believe there are still a majority of our soldiers whom are risking their lives to fight for what they believe in. That being our country’s freedom and the right’s associated with being an American. Today’s society has taught us to rebel against and never conform to any standard. I believe this is truly a lack in judgment from our peers of yesterday and today. They teach us that our standards of beliefs should be compromised to avoid any displays of discrimination on a state and national level. The reasons our soldiers were initially sent to defend our country and the reason they are still there are only political. Again, this goes back to heroes or fools. Ask a man who crosses that line to go into a burning building in the middle of crack town just to save one life of a child that he knows is the product of a drug ridden family. Does he think before he does it based on the knowledge he has beforehand. Is he a hero or a fool? He is simply just doing his job right? Just like our teachers, police and many others. Same with our soldiers, they are heroes the same, fighting a different war than the one we hear about on the news and in the papers. We don’t see the struggles when we come home and close our eyes safe and sound in our cozy homes. We take advantage of the fact that tomorrow will come when in reality these soldiers never know if they will even finish a meal let alone a day. They fight for a cause that will never come to fruition or will it? The question remains, heroes or fools? Isn’t there a little bit of both in all of us?

    Melinda Kay

P.S. Please don't misinterpret what I am saying. I agree for the most part on what you have said. But you say that
"The true heroes are the teachers of the world, the firefighters, and all those volunteers who give of themselves for nothing in return"
But then you say this....."Remember soldiers get paid, where does it say that heroes draw a check for being heroic"
Teachers and firefighters get paid as well so I thought this was a bit conflicting. IMO the true heroes are the ones never publicly recognized for their title. Yes, it could be a teacher, firefighter, or even a soldier. But for reasons we may never know. A hero is someone you look up to that may have changed your life by something said or done. It very well could be that teacher that gave you that one compliment in 3rd grade on a job well done that shaped your life to lead you to become a journalist. It very well could be your grandmother with her stern beliefs and strict discipline that shaped what you became. Heroes come in every form, shape and manner even when we don't realize it.

I agree there are many soldiers that wouldn't and more than enough average citizens that would.
Just wanted you to know that I respect your thoughts and opinions on multiple matters. I didn't want it to seem like I came across as brash. Thank You for the follow up. Have a blessed day.

    Crimson Field [Sestina]
    October 05/06

The men shot into the horizon
And watched as their friends fell
    Their blood a painted river
    Among the dusty battle fields
And with in their left breast pocket
Were smiles of the ones they loved

They fought for who they loved
    They prayed towards the horizon
A cross placed in their pocket
    Forbidden tears often fell
    With dreams of grassy fields
    And beautiful majestic rivers

    The tears were their rivers
They were surrounded by no love
Captured within the prison of fields
    Shot towards the horizon
And watched as the enemy fell
Placed a bullet with in their pocket

The safety, of an invisible pocket
Was all that protected them from crimson rivers
But even then one… by one… they fell
All for the ones they loved
Red and Black tinted the horizon
And grey swept through the fields

    Poppies rose from filthy fields
And they placed memories in their pockets
Watched the sun set upon the horizon
As the soothing sound of the trickling river
Shared the perfect moment everyone loved
As finally the long awaited silence fell

So think of those who fell
    Within the crimson fields
    You are who they loved
You kept the smile in their pocket
Their souls have filled the River
And their hearts shade the horizon

For The final tear fell, and landed in the pocket
Of the soldier in the field, beside the bloodied rivers
Going home to the ones they loved, they set towards the horizon
