I dont know why but everytime I try to write a happy poem it comes out sad. Even if im in the greatest mood it still comes out sad and depressed. Anyone know why this happens? |

You can't force yourself to write. |

haha thats a good question.. generally that happens to me too. All the happy poems i write end up going even deeper then happiness and such. |

A lot of my early stuff was sad/dark/melancholy, even though I've always been the optimist and jokester. I think the sad poems are a release of that darkness, something that needs to be gotten out of our systems to be happier, more content with life. I tend to revel in the melancholia however, just something I was good at and people liked. I have written happy poems, love poems, nature, surreal, abstract, etc. It just depends on what comes out of you when you sit down to write. Just go with what you are feeling, don't TRY to write a certain poem-just write the poem inside you. Eventually the different emotions will surface just as powerfully. |

Think of something that makes you feel happy...like a certain type of music or a person...something along them lines and base your poem around that. Or you can think of a type when you were really happy and think about how you felt and while you think about the happiness, write your poem...worked for me. :D |

Well almost all my poems are sad, I have I think 1 that isn't, and it's about when the day comes that I will no longer be depressed, so try writing about a future time when you think times will be better. Just don't force it. |

that's what happens to me too, my poems always come out sad, but that is because when i try to write happy i am sad, so it always ends up sad cause i don't write when im happy. |

That just may be your signature style of writing. I also have trouble trying to write something a little less depressing than the way it ends up. I am an extremely happy person but somehow I can't describe it that way. I seem to write the darkest poetry when I am feeling my best and am happiest. In my opinion I wouldn't try to push the issue of trying to write a happy poem. Let your feelings flow onto the paper and the end result will be what was meant to be. |

i have the same problem! i think that maybe its because you have those sad feeling deep inside that there is no other way to express them except by writing sad poetry. i write a ton of sad poems and i think that its cause i'm afraid to acctually show sadness...i act all happy and keep the dark and sad feeling hidden away. i hope that helps you a little bit |
