I conisder myself Agnostic... meaning I believe their is something, but I have no clue what. I believe god, by christian religion, could exist. Did you know the original bible has been revised so many times that the context from the original is only about 30% percent accurate with today's bible.

Im a Christian, and if you think church is so bored go to a church that has a rock band or something, that is much more interesting,Zoe God gives us a choice to believe in him or not, it is because of sin that so many things go bad, God loves us all no matter who you are. Im not trying to preach here but yah, what do you think made the world, have to ever studied atoms and other stuff like that in school, then you would know that nobody could make something so small and so exact except for a higher being, a creator, God. ~Charity~

Charity, I don't believe that bad things happen because of sin. Cancer just kills your boyfriend's mother because she's been a wonderful person, right?
Cancer kills your good friends father because he was a doctor and helped people who could not afford to pay for appointments, right?
People are raped because they have "sinned", right?

Well, i beleiven God, however, many people do not to each its own...i was broughten up in a house hold when my parents accepted anything anyone with firm but fair rules and i was taught to beleive in whatever i feel is worth beleiving in and never stop until i have fufilled that certain beleif...however, i was also taught to accept those of others, i do not have to agree with it but be respectful towards it i have always been that way, and i will teach my kids the same thing. Everyone has their reasons for and for not to beleiven God, My reason is because when i had no one to turn to...all i had left was my faith and it pulled me threw the toughest time, i aint gonna preach because i aint like but....some do and some dont and accept either way of people....beleiven whatever you feel is worth beleivening in.

Buy athiest religion, it doesn't always mean that you do not believe in "god", it means that everyone is equal. If you do believe in a "god", you also believe you are able to reach that potential. Although non-religiously the word itself is greek, meaning without god

You guys are right you dont have to go to church to believe in God, you just have to show it in your life, you have to believe in Jesus Christ. Also whoever said that God gave us a choice to believe in him or not, exacly, that is what he gave us a choice in.

i do not believe in god. religion is man-made. its like a world-wide fad. religions die out too. gods change, and a new set of beliefs are renewed. its pointless. its superstition. its a holdback for society.

    What????
I believe what my parents say most of the time....
I believe what my friends say most of the time....
And, yes, I do love them.

What does that have to do with believing in God or not?

That's pretty twisted. My friends and my family are more important to me than life itself - maybe because they are my life. Saying something like that just proves how little you know.

I believe that we are all little Gods, and any God thay many or may not exist would be wise enough and certainly happy enough with him/herself to NOT NEED OUR WORSHIP! And there would be no punishment if we didn't show up to church etc etc.

I mean how petty can a God be who needs little mortals like us to big him up? The God i believe in wants us to worship each other and let him be....the God i believe in wants us to stop asking him for things and sort them out ourselves by understanding that we have the same power that he has to change things, we just rarely use it.

The God i believe in has nothing to do with the suffering and good in the world and certainly doesn't care about any of it. It's all an illusion, little kids playing war games until they figure out something better to do.

I understand the need for faith in something larger than us, you know the "lets hope that someone is steering the boat" metaphor...but a God who controlled things would be an fascist don't you think?

Aw man.....I'M GOD!! HA HA HA HA!

i'm a southern baptist Christian. God is very important to me, and my faith plays a huge role in my life, it's the reason i'm still alive. i've doubted my faith before, but i've never abandonned it, i can't, it's a too much a part of me. plus, i know God loves me way too much, and he's done so much for me, that i'm not able to conceive him as being non-existent.

My faith is really strong, without my faith I would not know where id be, I probably would be dead right now if it weren't for God. My family has been through alot, and through that whole time I started to doubt my faith and why we got way more then our shares of troubles, but then God showed me the light, and now I love God more than ever, I love Him with all my heart. ~Charity~

Yo Jay, what has God done for you? I mean really, did he do your garden for you or something? Sorry for being sarcastic but i think you are discrediting your own powers here.

God wouldn't be a very good deity if he interfeareed with our lives now would he[ or she ]

What did God do that you didn't do yourself? Do you think perhaps that in order to make it easier for your ego to handle some major change, you projected some aspect of yourself onto a God figure...and let that side of yourself "change" you?

    Huh?

well, what has God done for me? he's protected me thus far. with all my depressive episodes, my family's lack of money, and my health problems; he's kept me up and going. i don't believe in coincidence; too many unexplainable things happen. i hated myself for a long time growing up. i didn't talk to anyone about my problems. the only thing that kept me alive was that i knew someone cared; i knew God cared. prayer eases my mind, and it works. when money comes just in the nick of time, or when my friend made a miraculous recovery from an injury that doctors were sure would paralyze her, it's kind of hard to rule out the idea that it happened because of all of our prayer. and i don't think it's wrong for God to interfere with our lives. he doesn't make us do anything, we have free will, that's why some people believe him and some don't, because he gives us the right to choose. it's not wrong for your mom or dad to interfere with the way you live because they're your parents; they gave you life, they love you. it's the same way with God. since he created everything and knows everything, why not accept his gracious offer to help us through life?

i can't make you believe anything you don't want to, nor can you change my mind about what i know to be true in my life. my faith (believing in something unseen) is something i've experienced. and i'm proud of it. and God created and loves everyone, even those who don't accept him; but in order to get his help, you have to be willing to accept him. if you're close-minded to it, you'll never figure it out because God isn't someone you figure out, he's someone you experience. and once you've experienced something inside, there's no one who can tell you it didn't happen. just because it can't be explained or exactly understood doesn't mean it isn't real. to me God is real, and so is his love; i choose to accept it.

no. i dont believe i n god because too many people suffer. prayers are sometimes never answered and people dont understand why. i cant accept it. i also disagree with churches. though i go to one i am forced in a way because people have it in their mines that if you dont you will go to hell. my parents have no idea about this and probably never will because it would push them too far. i know that sounds horrible and if you do believe i have nothing against you. just my belief.

  • Kevin

Yo Jay, you are dead right about one thing. I can't change your mind and you can't change mine..and in truth i ain't trying to change anything about you, i'm just talking like you are...sharing beliefs and ideas as humans do...maybe somewhere along the way we'll learn something beautiful?

Ah, so God got you that money just as you needed it? and saved your friend, and was a gentle hand in all the wonderful things that have seemingly happened by chance in your life? I wish i could believe you Jay, but it just doesn't add up.

Cause you see, those kind of things happen to me as well, and in fact they happen to everyone regardless of their beliefs, why, they even happen to Wiccans[ those who believe in Witchcraft] and even those who believe in planets controlling their lives [ astrology ] i wonder how that can be if God only rewards and smiles upon those who worship him?

Also, you say that it's ok for God to help us out, but that it's no interfearing and certainly not an infringement on our free will, which he died for. But let me ask you this, if you were lost in a maze, like a lab rat for example, and i left little crumbs of cheese all the way to the exit, knowing that you'd almost certainly follow them...would it be free will on your part if you did? I mean, how can we say we make a free choice if we are directly influenced to do so by some God?

I don't think you are really putting yourself in the place of God and trying to look at your faith from the point of ciew of everything that God is meant to be, and then look at all the rules and dogma that supposedly comes from this God.

The most complex computer in the world couldn't make it add up. Again, it just doesn't make sense Jay, rational logical sense, even with faith, which i have plently of.

No Offence. But i believe you create all the wonderful things that happen to you with the power that resides within you, a power that we have been told by the bible lies within us, just as God does...for what do you think he was referring to when he spoke of the "Kingdom Within"?

I was baptized Confirmed and raised Catholic since I was born. My mother forced these ideas into our heads and told us that these were the only right ideas. I find out years later she is a total hypocrite.

I believed for many years that there was a God and as long as I followed the Catholic way of life I would go to heaven. I saw 7 friends, very good people, die of cancer in a year, My good friends dad die of cancer, and both my grandparents go. I became overwhellmed with sadness and eventually started believing that I was doing something wrong. I couldnt figure out what or why God wasnt helping me so I tried to kill myself. 2 months at a mental institute only further pushed me away from God. I met Zack last November at school still not honestly believing that there was anyone to watch over me. He doesnt seem like the type to even understand religion at all but when I told him I was scared to die and that I didnt think there was a God he cried and told me that if there wasnt one Hed be scared too. Ever since then I believe that someone is there watching out for me.

YES!!!!! god is amazing and has amazing things in my life! I was born and raised as a christian but only recently have i been true to my faith! I still do shitty things which goes against him but god didn't make us to be perfect jus to be more like jesus!

I don't mean to be a Vulcan here, but can anyone in here who believes in the Christian God please explain why in a logical way? I mean i know faith is a hard thing to put into words, but surely if you spend your life believing in something you can explain it well enough so that i can understand and at the very least see the sense in it..i mean you'd think you could convince me that it's at least a good way to live.

Now as i said before, i have faith by the bucketload, don't take me for a non believer...i just want a reasonable explanation from one of you guys...not the

"Jesus has done amazing things for me in my life..like he fixed my car and brough my frog back to life and i owe everything to him!! WOO HOO"

Yeah?...explain to me how you know that?

  • Ali

Ok, I know its hard to believe in anything when theres no proof. All Im going to do is tell you a story and hope you believe me...

My boyfriend told me he had a dream about him crossing the creek in his backyard. He saw a figure on a black horse dressed in black and charging him. As soon as he crossed the creek towards the house, the figure couldnt touch him. He said in his dream he went inside and strapped on his sword and dagger and went back outside to the black man across the creek. He fought the figure and as he was giving him the final blow the figure horse and all dissapeared and the crickets began chirping again.... the next day at class (college) they read a story called "Faust". In it a demon named Mephistopheles (or Mephisto, Mephistophilus, Mephist and Mephistophilis just if you wanna look it up) mounts a black horse and is dressed in all black drab. He never even heard of the story prior to class. I never honestly felt right across the creek alone until after he and I went and prayed on that side of the creek, now, honestly, there are crickets that chirp. Thats enough proof for me...

I believe in a god but I don't believe in religions and their god. I choose my own god who is pure and untainted by human propaganda. No wars are fought over my religion, no one dies and no one gets hurt. And that's why we should each have our own gods that reflect our values without angering others and shedding blood.

  • Kevin

Ali, that is a pretty random and vague way to convince anyone of the existence of God, no offence.

So your boyfriend had a dream that involved a dark archetype figure, and then read Faust the next day at college...that doesn't say to me anything about God, only coincedence or at best, Syncronicity....maybe he was trying to make sense of a troubling night..and latched onto the description of the demon in fuast?

I don't expect anyone to convince me of the existence of God. I ask only that seeing as we are discussing the topic, someone who follows the Christian faith might explain why they do it based on logic and reason.

For example, i believe in the power of thought, both in a spritual energy way and also purely as the basis for all physical acts. I can explain this simply by saying that because i believe and have great respect for the power of thought, i pay special attention to my thoughts, sorting the paranoid from the inspiring...nothing ever just happens to me...i don't ever just hit people, or have sex with someone[ to use two exteme examples!] believing in this makes me 100% responsible for all my actions and their effect on others.

I do not hold any Devil liable for the evil in the world, only the thoughts and subsequent actions of normal people.

So, i've explained one of my beliefs...can someone do this for Christianity?

i was raised baptist as a child until i was around 13 i went Atheist till i was around 15, found God but never found a religion and now i am 16 and studying the relgion of Jehova's Witness but am not quite sure yet.

  • Kevin

Ali, it doesn't matter whether i believe the story or not, i'm not poking fun at the honesty or understanding of your boyfriend.

I am merely asking why you believe in God and Christianity? I mean like i said before, surely you must be able to explain to me why? In a rational and reason focussed manner as i did a few posts back with one of my beliefs?

Most folk believe in God because they were raised that way, or their life was in a poor condition and suddenly the bible seemed to have all the answers and fill the gap.

How many people choose beliefs based on balanced well thought out logic?
