I'll wait until things get heated again, IF they get heated again. I like jumping in randomly to smother everyone's polished ideas.

For philosophers, the perception of "good in itself" is something which is good without being so as a means to another good.

So can something be good without being so just because we want it?

It is acknowledged as "summum bonum", the "maximum" good.

Hobbes gives us reason to consider we can't identify such a good whilst we are simply mortal humans:

"there is no such thing in this world, nor way to it, more than to Utopia: for while we live, we have desires, and desire presupposeth a further end"

For Hobbes, anything that is the entity of your desires will be called "good" via you.

Are things only good since we yearn for them? Or because they cause other "good" things? Or can they just be "good" in and of themselves?

What is the affiliation of "goodness" and our end wishes? How does something become "good"?

For Aristotle fans, check out his opinions on agathon!

Joe, I still say you are nuts.

    "mortal humans"

^^ I have yet to meet any immortal humans.

    Google definition of 'good':

Having desirable or positive qualities especially those suitable for a thing specified; "good news from the hospital"; "a good report card"; "when she was good she was very very good"; "a good knife is one good for cutting"; "this stump will make a good picnic table"; "a good check"; "a good joke"; "a good exterior paint"; "a good secretary"; "a good dress for the office"

You are asking to differentiate between good & desire, fun & pleasure. Perhaps there is a difference. To answer your silly questions...no, sometimes, and yes.

A good in itself, in other words, and end unto itself. Sure, that exists. How complicated would you like to make this? I watched the movie, Serenity, last night. It was good :)

Some goods we do not make good, they do not become good, they are not goods via humans. Do you disagree?

Right vs. Wrong...that is another idea, another, more debatable, topic.

Right vs. Wrong what about Right vs. Right or Wrong vs. Wrong?

We can have a huge debate on all three of those topics, for they are all very debatable.

I can answer this fairly truthfully joe. Right is being true to ones self, and following what you to believe is true. Yes this is open to debate but its all perspective in context. As for wrong, wrong is deceit, lies, such things as that. Say...impersonating someone else for example.

^ Agreed. Joe, you should be thankful we aren't going to report you.
