Man is the measurer of all things.

    what else would be?

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

I agree, for is man not the only creature to put measure to that which is around him?

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

Now that is something else I can agree with. I am not certain as to your beliefs, but as for mine...I think it nonsensicle to deem ourselves the only living creatures in the vast expanse of space.

Darwin is back! Alas, I must agree. Man is the measurer of all things (as far as we know).

    Wishing will get you nowhere.

Id rather a few other philosophers myself, but I would not turn down the chance to talk to any. I believe Socrates would be my most favorite to meet.

    Why? Both of you, why?

Speak with them solely to agree on all points, broaden the expanse of your minds, or to argue certain ideas?

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

as you like to say jane...why not? It can not hurt to wish if we both are aware that it will do us no good.

To talk, debate, and whatever else

  • silvershoes

No, it will not hurt, but it is pointless. Do what you like.

Why not? That question does not apply. You chose a specific philosopher, I want to know why.

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

Why, becuase of all the greek philosophers that I currently know, he is the one that best mirrors my own beliefs.

    "the man whom said"

^ In that sentence, it would be "the man who," not "the man whom." You may already know this, but I wanted to clarify.

  • silvershoes

Yes, measure vs. measurer. You are more right in that case, Darwin.

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

Without a measurer there would be no measure, I tend to take one with the other.

Jason, you want to meet Socrates because you are his follower and want a good pat on the head. Don't be a fool.

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

And your point? Did we not already cover that only man can put purpose or meaning to his life?

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

No jane, not hardly. I differ from socrates in many many ways, I just like him the most.

  • silvershoes

  • xXxAngelEyes007xXx

not my fault some people mean it like that

  • silvershoes

(I know, Darwin. I was joking! What else would she be doing?)

  • xXxAngelEyes007xXx

  • silvershoes

    ...

"(Are you seriously asking me that?)" This is called paradox. Of COURSE Bubblez was pretending to understand. Humor, Darwin, not something I would expect you to understand, yet I tried anyway.

Bubblez, you misinterpreted my usage of "doing." What else would you be doing other than pretending?

Everyone comprehending now? At least, to some degree?

I give up. Anyway, when someone decides to bring this thread back to its original topic, I will again participate.

Darwin, may I ask you a bunch of questions? (In other words, will you answer the questions that I will ask, assuming they are not overly personal?)

You know what? I'll just go ahead and ask.

When did you become interested in philosophy? The stoic way of life, more specifically.

What was your childhood like? Are your parents still around?

Are you attending or planning on attending college? Which do you have in mind/which are you a student of? What is/will be your major?

Are you writing a book? Generally, what about?

Do you write much poetry? Do you keep it all?

Do you read other types of books, outside philosophy?

  • silvershoes

    Will do.
