Well, that is a damned good question. When all topics fail, speak of balls.

You ever hear that song, "I Have Big Balls?" It is actually quite frightening.

lol not really Jason, it just prevents others from posting in a full thread and causing the server to slow down etc. etc.

    Ah, yes...the precious server.

What is it that the other mods do exactly joe?

  • silvershoes

So anyway. Anyone have anything of value to contribute? As this thread is under my name, I believe topics covered should be of depth, furthering of knowledge.

  • Italian Stallion

Don't really care to tell you the truth joe.

as to a decent conversation...how about faith and religion as was started in our club?

Where did Abby run off to?

As to faith and religion, are we all atheists here? If not, confess.

Yes, Joseph. My fingers are guarded.

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

As you know jane I am an atheist, but for the others who might not, I tell you now.

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

    shapes and forms?

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

I summarized that in the club liz. There is nothing to support such, and too many contradicting facts. I need proof of things, that is something I have nothing of. It is illogical to me for there to be a god.

  • Italian Stallion

    Hrmmm

  • silvershoes

Good question. I find all of the stories and ideas related to God are extremely faulty. I believe in science, evolution, reason. There are no certainties with God. I do not hold your religion against you, but I cannot believe in it myself. There is a firm reason why religions are created worldwide, in all "shapes and forms." People fear unanswered questions, especially when pertaining to life (which always includes death). Religion gives answers.

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

I agree with jane. Consider your cell phone...you dont know how it works, but that doesn't mean that god makes it happen. That is part of the origin of religion, it explains what we cant explain.

  • Italian Stallion

Consider your cell phone...you dont know how it works

^^ interesting example considering I do know how cell phones work

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

Yes, that example does not apply to everyone, but it does to the vast majority and I am not completely convinced you know how your cell works...do you know what each part does and how it works when all put together, the programming that runs it, the chemicals that make the battery work?

  • silvershoes

^ I will assume that is meant to be a question, not Native American for 'hello.' Oh, you added the rest of the statement. My joke now appears retarded.

How do cell phones work? Are you drunk?

  • Italian Stallion

A cell Phone is actually a radio, an extremely sophisticated radio, but a radio nonetheless.

The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876, and wireless communication can trace its roots to the invention of the radio by Nikolai Tesla in the 1880s (formally presented in 1894 by a young Italian named Guglielmo Marconi).

It was only natural that these two great technologies would eventually be combined.

  • silvershoes

Jason, a cell phone related to religion? Please do not compare the two. Man can explain how a cell phone works on solid grounds, he cannot explain how religion works.

  • silvershoes

You are a master of Google, Joe. How impressive. However, how is that related? It is the QUESTION as to how a cell phone works, he wanted you to consider. The fact that we do question, and do not have answers. (This is in reference to Jason, not Darwin).

    Blah.

Either way, the comparison is stupid.

  • Rahl The Layman Lord

My point ,jane, being when man can not say how something works he seeks to apply some reason to it, often resulting as religion. It was not the most accurate example no, but similar enough for my purposes.

Cell phones are some of the most intricate devices people use on a daily basis. Modern digital cell phones can process millions of calculations per second in order to compress and decompress the voice stream.

If you take a basic digital cell phone apart, you find that it contains just a few individual parts:

An amazing circuit board containing the brains of the phone
    An antenna
    A liquid crystal display (LCD)
A keyboard (not unlike the one you find in a TV remote control)
    A microphone
    A speaker
    A battery

The analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion chips translate the outgoing audio signal from analog to digital and the incoming signal from digital back to analog.

The digital signal processor (DSP) is a highly customized processor designed to perform signal-manipulation calculations at high speed.

The microprocessor handles all of the housekeeping chores for the keyboard and display, deals with command and control signaling with the base station and also coordinates the rest of the functions on the board

The ROM and Flash memory chips provide storage for the phone's operating system and customizable features, such as the phone directory. The radio frequency (RF) and power section handles power management and recharging, and also deals with the hundreds of FM channels. Finally, the RF amplifiers handle signals traveling to and from the antenna.

Should I go on Mr. Dawin?

    Joe. Give it up.

This conversation is going nowhere. I am headed out. Goodnight all, please do not destroy this thread with your pathetic thoughts.

    :)

Joe, you are still thinking too broad...how do all those thousands of transistors and resistors come together to MAKE a cell phone work? What programming Makes it work?
