The word " 'cause "

I realize that "cause" is a real word, and " 'cause " is a shortened up version of "because"... But it's still a word, isn't it? Has it been slang all this time and I had no idea? :S ... I feel kinda stupid, but I noticed that if I used " 'cause " in my poem, it wouldn't submit without being put in the slang poetry...So I thought I'd ask.

    ...Me... --

    Cause is a real word.
'Cause is not. 'Cause is a shortened form of 'because,' thus automatically pushing it to the 'slang' category.

Alright. I understand that it's slang... But what about shakespeare, he shortened up some words so that they would fit the strict fitting of sylobal count...We can't do that?

(lol) In no way did I mean that I was trying to redefining history or language, or that I thought I could. I realize shakespeare did, and that's why I brought it up - he's put that little mark on alot of words to shorten them up- and in turn his lines were perfectly syllabled and flowed beautifully. I remember now though, that those words he used are infact shakespeare's 'slang'... Anyway, my question has been answered and I thankyou all for your help.
