Lead singer of The Doors wrote some poetry too, I really like his work.
He even made a poetry cd with music from The Doors called 'An American Prayer' and wrote poetry books as well, I highly recommend it.
Some other people on here who like The Doors and Jim Morrisons poetry work?

My favourite poem of his would be 'Feast of Friends'

    Wow, Im sick of doubt
Live in the light of certain
    South
    Cruel bindings.
    The servants have the power
    Dog-men and their mean women
    Pulling poor blankets over
    Our sailors

    Im sick of dour faces
Staring at me from the tv
    Tower, I want roses in
    My garden bower; dig?
    Royal babies, rubies
    Must now replace aborted
    Strangers in the mud
    These mutants, blood-meal
    For the plant thats plowed.

They are waiting to take us into
    The severed garden
Do you know how pale and wanton thrillful
Comes death on a strange hour
    Unannounced, unplanned for
Like a scaring over-friendly guest youve
    Brought to bed
Death makes angels of us all
    And gives us wings
    Where we had shoulders
    Smooth as ravens
    Claws

No more money, no more fancy dress
This other kingdom seems by far the best
Until its other jaw reveals incest
And loose obedience to a vegetable law.

    I will not go
    Prefer a feast of friends
    To the giant family.

I went through a huge Morrison phase in my early twenties. He has some really brilliant stuff and some really 'out there' stuff. Some people call his work genius, some call it drivel. I really like the majority of his work, but some is not that impressive. Recommend reading; his biography-'No One Here Gets Out Alive' by Jerry Hopkins & Danny Sugerman, also Morrison's poetry books-'The Lords & The New Creatures', 'Wilderness' & 'American Night'(or 'American Highway'-forget which it is). Plus on some of the Doors live albums/bootlegs, he usually works a lot of poetry into the songs.

I've gotten into that phase two years ago, and i'm still hooked lol. I have read the NOHGOA bio which is an awesome sum up, and some other books about The Doors, but I haven't got anything of his poetry work yet.. it's kinda hard to find here in the bookstores but my search continues.
Nice to see there is another jim/doors fan out here thanks for your reply. :)
