Writers block?

Well, my dad moved away when i was 10 all the way across the world, and he was one of my BEST friends. I look to photography and music to help inspire and encourage my poems, but nothing comes out when i start to write. I have other experiences that I would also like to write about, but if I can't even write about my dad leaving, (such a wide topic), then how do I write about the others?

I try to think about any memories that i have. Or i just speak from the heart. Sometimes i think about big problems in the world like abuse and write about that.

When i have mental melt down i write something REALLY silly. I find trying too hard to squeeze my feelings into a poem that i feel so much about is really hard sometimes and when i can't do it, messing about seems like a good option. :) I like to write random things that contain nothing i feel at all.. just to get back the fun and love of writing poetry. They don't even have to be good! Because I don't post them or anything, they're just to get things flowing again.

A good way of writing a poem though is to write it in a more natural form of just blasting it out and then turn it into a poem. or write a poem however it comes out (Even if its complete mush) and then edit it into a better poem. Just a thought.

Try just taking something you have been thinking about a lot lately or something you feel strongly about. Most everyone has certain things they think about over and over again. Try putting that down in words. Or wait to you are filled with some kinda of emotion and write about that.
