Poetry is not governed by grammar or format, all it is governed by is spelling. All poetry is, is thought on paper and most thoughts of one person are somtimes incomprihensable by all others but it still has an impact on others through the feeling and emotion of that poem. |

^The thing is is that these poems have impacted people and are considered to be among the best. Why do you think that is? |

For me,grammar and spelling yes. not so much the form,if it reads well and comes from the heart of the writer thats whats important . I don`t care much for non rhyming poems either they always sound more like short stories or a letter to someone, not what I think of as poetry, though theres always exceptions. |

As much as I'd like to say no, I think I'm gonna have to say yes it does because if the spelling and grammer is off then it throws off the rest of the poem and makes it harder to read because you are more focused on the spelling etc than the meaning of the poem. |

It does because it makes the poem not as good. It draws people away from it instead of pulling them in. |
Hidden Feelings within these Words

I tend to think that punctuation and such have a great part in a good poem. It speeds, or slows down a poem, pauses, or shows happiness in it. Depending on the poem, is depending on your different punctuation, grammer, etc. Mmm, just my opinion though. It can change someone appeal to it.. If I open a poem and it looks very sloppy.. I tend to want to stop reading it. If I open an organized stanza, proper spelling, punctuation poem.. I'll be drawn into more so than the sloppy one. Now, if you write a poem that the first stanza sucks you in, people may remain reading it. But all in all, it's better to be safe than sorry in my opinion. |

All I have to say is poetic license...if you know the rules you can break them as long as it still makes sense to you. Poetry impacts people differently. Why, because we're all different. I'm not going to write a poem that's got the same form, grammar and punctuation as Ally. It's very subjective, all poetry. Some people may like the different form, some may like rhyme (which I don't unless it's really well done) others like different stuff. send the same group of poems to two different people and they'll probably choose different ones to each other. |

Poetry is an art form, and like art, it cannot be tethered to one form or one style... |

I've come to learn that poetry doesn't have to rhyme to be "good" - That in fact much bad poetry rhymes. I also used to think that free verse was haphazard, but I can see where that is not true. Lately, I've come to write a lot or poems that do not adhere to strict rhyme structure, yet it still has a singing, sonorous quality. It's the sounds of the words as much as the meaning that matters and constitutes "good" poetry. |
