Italian Sonnet

I have to write an Italian Sonnet for my Global History class for a project about Vittoria Colonna. She wrote italian sonnets(duh..) some prose and a triza-rime? or something like that.

i was wondering if anyone had a suggestion about writing sonnets, i have never written one before, and they're kind of scary! lol.

Anyways this is what i found out about them:

    14 lines
    Divided into two sections
1st.(8 lines) shows the burden; a doubt, a problem, a reflection, a query, an historical statement, a cry of indignation or desire, a Vision of the idea.

2nd. (6 lines) resolves the problem or doubt, answers the query, solaces the yearning, realizes the vision.

Mostly they're broken up into 4 lines, 4 lines, 3 lines, 3 lines.

    RhymeScheme:
    abba
    abba
    cdecde, cdccdc, or cdedce.

There are 10 syllables per line right?

If anything is wrong- PLEASE TELL ME! =]

Lol, I've written my fair share of Italian Sonnets, they're fun!

I think you got the syllable count wrong..a French Sonnet is strictly 10 syllables but an Italian may be 10 or 11, at least that is as I know them to be.

The rhyme scheme is abbaabba and cdcdcd or cdecde

If you need examples, I have two that I could find of mine...

And they have the descriptions at the bottom. They're a tad old I do believe, well the sadder one is..and not that great but the first one was me coming out of my writers block and the second one was my third one of them I do believe...maybe before you hand yours in, write a few rough copies, make sure you edit it, count syllables, review the rhyming etc.

    Good luck. =)
