I let people do what they want without really judging me, but me personally, I'd prefer a wedding.

Eh...most people elope because they're doing it to hide from someone and I think that's dumb. I mean its their personal choice, but I would never want to hide my love. Although, if a couple simply doesn't have any other options or wants something private, then go for it. I, myself, want a medium-sized, personal but somewhat lavish wedding lol. But thats WAY into the future. not something I ever really think about now, being 18 and all.

"Eh...most people elope because they're doing it to hide from someone and I think that's dumb."

I don't bloody well think so!
Me and marcus were considering eloping simple because of money! A wedding costs an arm and a leg judging by the amount his sister is paying.
And i don't think we're hiding it either considering everyone knows we're enagaged and everyone knows we love each other.
So no, eloping does NOT mean you're trying to hide it. Maybe in some cases, but not all so don't lump it together when you don't know the facts.

Grr. I'm in one helluva bad mood tonight so sorry if i'm coming across a bit strong. I need to vent it out somehow.

Anyhoo, yes, we're having a wedding now because his parents are helping us out but not everyone is that lucky.

I agree with Gem. I honestly think people elope because of the money a wedding costs. And if you aren't young and frivolous, then in many ways, it is romantic.

I'd prefer to elope than have a wedding. I hate large gatherings especially when I'm at the centre of attention. And I'm poor :)

I kinda like the idea of eloping. I dunno why. I'm really not good with lots of people looking at me; I think I'd be way too nervous with everyone there. Plus, I think it's kind of romantic in a weird sort of way, to go away for a while and come back and just sort of announce that you're married. You get to celebrate the wedding with the one person you care most about. And then, if people want to have a party to celebrate it, at least you won't have to stand in front of a group of people and say your vows or whatever.

I dunno- I would probably never elope myself. I just kind of think it would be nice in a lot of ways.

I have no problem with eloping in the least ^.^ Yes some people elope because their hiding it but not all =P I personally wouldn't mind either way ^.^ somewhat small cute wedding with our friends and family or eloping then having a party when we come back to annonce (sp?) that we did it *which would mean that we weren't hiding anyway lol
I believe that everyone should make their own choices on this *as with everything* but I'm all for it lol Just depends on what the guy wants =)

    What does Elope mean?

Not to sound like the blonde I am. lol.

  • Atomic

Elope basically means running away to get married.

I guess, because their family does not agree to the idea of their son/daughter getting married to that certain person, they feel it's better to sneak.

Way back when, people used to run to "Gretna Green" to do so.

    Now I believe, Las Vegas.

    Or something.

I'm okay with eloping, less presents for me to buy for weddings.

"1. to run off secretly to be married, usually without the consent or knowledge of one's parents.
    2. to run away with a lover.
    3. to leave without permission or notification; escape. "

That's the definition (s) of eloping. If you're referring to costs, then you probably just mean going to city hall and getting married. there's nothing wrong with that. but people who are saying "I would elope for financial reasons" are kind of missing the point of eloping.

It depends on what is happening in their case.

Gem and Amanda, why would you elope to escape the costs of a wedding? What does that solve? If you can't afford to get married, don't get married..don't run away and then not get married. Haha, I don't get it. Eloping seems pointless in that case. Am I wrong? Maybe I missed something.

I think eloping is cute(unless you just met the guy, and then uhh. yea thatd be bad)

but to like fly somewhere romantic and have a wedding at your honeymoon or w/e thatd be cool. =]
