I have a problem some people think, I my self don't seem to think there is anything wrong with it. Most of the poems I write, I usually write them in less than 15 minutes ,but I just started and when I get it in my head I have to write it down then, is this a problem and if so why , why do i get such a bad feeling about this. I have written about 10 that only took me 3 or 4 minutes, can someone please help me.
    Thanks Tracy

Hi ,thanks for the comment,I don't know they all do very well. But a lot of people don't seem to think it's not possible to do this, like I said I'm very new to writing and I love it. And I hope to get to the point that I can write longer poems, but for now I have to stay with what I'm use to. Thanks again, makes me feel a little better. Tracy

I can write some poems quickly - But I will go back later and do some editing. A poem doesn't have to stay "as is" - You're not meddling with the artistic integrity of the poem if you edit and fix it up here and there

True , I go back and look over mine and I sometimes find I did something wrong in them. Bu t write what comes from the heart and not what I make up,all my writing is real and I want the readers to understand me and what I feel. That is the only way I can write .I want them to feel what I feel ,go where I have been and see me for who and what I am.

    Thanks Tracy

Who cares how long it is? If it is how you feel and means something to you then it doesn't matter whether it took you 3 minutes or 3 years

Thanks, that really makes me feel a lot better. Up until a little over two weeks ago, I had never wrote a poem before and I really enjoy doing it ,takes a lot off my mind. And at the same time, lets the rest of the world know how I feel and think. Thanks a lot, your friend Tracy

Very true, I put a lot of thought into each, especially the child abuse poems, because I really want the reader to feel what I when through ,so they know what it's like to be me and live it. The rest of the poems I come up with talking to my girlfriend, especially the love poems, just the things I say to her and there they are. She encouraged me to write so here I am, again many thanks, Tracy

Thanks, I will, but just upsets me that someone comes in and votes a low vote and doesn't have the respect to say they like or dislike the poem. I find it hard to believe some people would go that low, if they don't like the poem just say sorry poem, try it again I can live with that, seeing that I'm just starting out. Ol well life goes on till next time. thanks everyone

Very true but still, why do people have to be so cold. When we are all in this world together ,thought since we all been through so much already we could learn to love and respect each other a little better than we do. But I guess I was wrong, I won't lose my faith in people even tho I know some will never change. Take care , your friend Tracy

Never let anyone bring me down again, been through way to much, just feel sorry for them. As for me, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

So with that ,I wish you all a great day!!!!

Why take life so serious, you'll never get out of it alive.

I think it can turn out good or bad, or somewhere in the middle...

Which means: do your thing, it can go both ways

Thanks, I tried the long poem thing today and it's not doing as good as my short poems. Not saying it won't , but for now it's like a rock not moving. You right it can go both ways.........thanks

I may do that later on down the road, but for now I want to keep my poems simple. Because for one I'm just starting out, only wrote 44 in my whole lifetime and the readers seem to love my style. That alone makes it all worth while to me. I like to throw in something to make them laugh every once in a while, a funny poem.
Makes them laugh and they give me good feedback and I love that. Thanks

I don't think how long it takes matters.
If you can get out what you're trying to say in 5 minutes, good.
If it takes you an hour, good.

If you think it needs more time, you could always go back and edit if you feel the need to.

Listen to the air. If you hear a poem write it down. If you write 1 or 100 that is ok. If you can feel the emotions when you touch the sky, write it down. A poem is the written words of the heart. It is not a race to see who can write more, just an ability to chanel what you see, hear, feel, know, into words that can sing into someone elses heart. You should feel blessed to be able to write on a whim.

Everyone keeps telling me to write something long something interesting. But I'm a simple guy and thats my style I really don't want to change the way I write. I can write love poems, sad ones or I can do funny ones and I like that, so why change. It's like this if they don't like the ones I write they can always read someone else's poems no hard feelings. I put my feeling and my heart into what I write and for someone thats only been writing about a month now, I think I do real good. Tracy

I don't think that it really should matter...i know some of my best poems were just off the top of my head and others took about a week just to think about one line or two

it just depends how easily you can get inspired

    -Tracy D Rollings

Yes, you shouldn't feel pressured to change your writing style. Everyone writes differently, it's just your way. Don't feel obligated to do what they say, just stick to what you do best because your best poems will be the poems you enjoyed writing.

The amount of time needed to write a poem can depend a lot on what kind of poem you're going to make, I can't imagine someone writing a sonnet or a villanelle or whetever sort of poem that has a strict form , certainly not when a strict meter is needed,
so I guess it depends on what you want to write, if you don't care about structure and so , time and lenght aren't so important i guess,
after all, most people here write about what they feel , and feel good when they can express their feelings and emotions into words
but, also ,on a site like this, if you do post a poem ,and it has a "flaw" in structure , syllable count or whatever, you should be able to take constructive critics
but , probably , most importantly, try to feel good with what you write :)

People write poems to release feelings for themselves not for other people so it doesnt matter how long it is ...as long as its personal to you

  • Roxy

Why should it be a problem that you write them in less time. I do the same thing sometimes. =]

A poem it something very personnal. It's something that you alone can judge. When you feel like writing, do it. It doesn't matter wheter it takes two hours or just a few minutes. What matters is that the thoughts you had are now out of your head and on paper.

When I started writing, I usually wrote one poem in almost 2 minutes. I thought that I was a bad writer because of that. But, I've learned that if you take an hour on one poem, you're not going to express yourself the way you want. When I post a poem on here I don't have anything in mind. I just click submit poem, and just start writing. as in, i had no idea what i was going to write about. It comes to me fast, and that's when I tend to write better.

Poems do not matter how long you write them for. i can say this because my most rated and commented poem on here was wrote in less than 10 minutes and its one of the best i have written. where as others i have only little rating for and i dont liek them and i spent hours on them. time doesntmatter its the quality xxx

Trust me my poems vary and i also think that maybe the quality is bad. not to sure

Poetry is a release of emotions. It doesnt matter how long it takes. If its 10 minutes its 10 minutes If its an hour its an hour and so on as long as its making you happy or making you feel better. Thats my personal opinion anyways =)

I AGREE WITH YOU. BUT HATS OFF TO YOU!! YOU CAN WRITE POEMS IN SUCH A SHORT DURATION.
HALF AN HOUR IS MINIMUM FOR ME.
BUT DONT YOU THINK SO THAT OUR DEPRESSIONS AND EMOTIONS SHOULD NOT MAKE IT AN EMOTIONAL MESS WHICH MANY OF US FORGET(EVEN ME SOMETIMES). AND THUS LEAVING IT MONOTONOUS FOR OTHERS.
