Literacy!

This website is for writing poetry, and those who write poetry seriously should have an appreciation for the English language...right?
I am getting sick of seeing you spelled 'u' and your 'ur' and any other sort of abbreviations in their poetry. I bugs me in the forums, but there is not really much that can be done about that. But, I am begging you, please, type the enitre word! Take the time to type the extra two letters in you, spell out the letters! I don't have any appreciation for poetry if it is lazily written.
Now, sure, I have made spelling/grammatical errors, its hard not to. Nobody is perfect.
    But, please,
    Spell the words out.

Short forms drive me insane lol I try not to do it at all, I usually cringe when I catch myself doing it. Unless it is a contest title I cannot change, it will not be found in my poetry. To each their own, I do suppose though.

I say it depends on the content of the poem....

Well like I said, it depends in the poem Britt...I mean if we look at why many people write poetry...Is because they need to release their emotions and when they post it out...Other like minded individuals may like it or love it for that matter.

Yes this is a literary site, I can attest to that, but in certain cases, poetry is just about emotion and portrayl (sp?)...

But I can agree that when sent to a literary publisher or some such, then spelling counts, unless the poet intends to put words such as "u" or "lyke" to illustrate his poetry.

I guess the words "To each their own" come to play...Lol.

But if you use the full spelling of a word, it does not decrese the amount of which you are "releasing their emotions". In fact, when I read a poem that does have "u" or "lyke" or whatever in it, the poem would be much more powerful if it had the correct spellings in it.
But, maybe that is just me.

Kelsea: I am not saying that poetry that have poetry have decreased amount of emotions.

No, I am just sharing that not all poetry that writes "lyke dis" is bad.

    Give me an example, then.
    A rap song? Haha.
    No.
    So, then what?

Exactly, Bob. I could really feel the intensity and verity of your refined emotion... the eloquence spoke to me. Especially in your repetition of the "eam" sound. I could just feel the passion building. Thank you, thank you.

I completely agree. If you're going to take the time to write, write correctly and legibly. I don't waste my time on poems that look anything like this -

    U N Me!
    1 Dai I'd Lyke 2 Tel U

... There's just no point. I'd spend more of my time trying to decipher what the hell it is they were trying to say.

I always wonder why if people tell you over and over that they hate to read web slang and you want people to read and comment your poetry, why
would you continue to use it?
