'Two teenagers have been sentenced to life in prison for the "merciless" murder of a 15-year-old friend they strangled and buried under a house in West Australia.

The pair was sentenced in the Perth Children's Court after previously pleading guilty to murdering Eliza Jane Davis in the coal mining town of Collie on June 18, 2006.

They must serve a minimum of 15 years behind bars.

Their sentencing hearing last month was told the three teenagers had stayed in the same house after a party on the Saturday night, Eliza in one bedroom while her then 16-year-old killers slept together in a second room.

Idly chatting on the Sunday morning, the pair decided neither of them would feel bad about killing someone and decided to kill Eliza.

They dressed in old clothes, strangled Eliza with speaker wire and buried her body under the house, the court was told.

They then reported Eliza missing and pretended to help with a search for her before turning themselves into police after deciding their grave was so shallow discovery was inevitable.

The girls told police they knew it was wrong to kill but it "felt right", and they did not feel bad about Eliza's death.

Prosecutor Simon Stone told the court their utter lack of remorse was the startling feature of the case.

"(They) planned the murder with calmness, consideration, emotional detachment and the desire to have the experience of killing someone," he said.

The girls' lawyers said experts were baffled by why they decided to kill.

Children's Court President Denis Reynolds described the murder as "gruesome and merciless in the extreme".

He sentenced the pair to life in prison, with a minimum of 15 years before they are eligible for parole.'

I know what you are saying.

On the news a police officer was saying something like that parents need to watch their kids if they are in the gothic or emo culture so something.

Sick. Just sick. Society is corrupting, this makes me so utterly sick to my stomach. Thanks for posting this, maybe it will open up some eyes.

Just like a slightly older version of the Bell girls...sick, sick. I can't believe they're only talking about the 15 year minimum.

I saw the girl in the paper. her picture was on many front covers. she was really pretty. it saddens me what some people do without remorse and with no regard of the consequences

"you know I'm starting to think maybe we should start advocating and encouraging these kids that seemingly want to kill themselves, at least before they kill someone who wants to live... what the hell has our society become of late"

    Amen to that.

I was told about this through several emails. My friend lives where this happened. The two girls (that murdered the other girl) were reported as having said: ‘it felt right’, they said they did not like the girl who they killed, and when asked again why they did this they shrugged and answered: ‘we’re emos’…

…Obviously no one had told these girls that ‘emo’ is an abbreviation for a music genre that began as ‘emotional punk’ and not a reason to strangle other youths…

Even if they like differen genre of music it doesn't have the right to die o.o

I agree. Just because someone is different it doesn't give them a death wish.

OMG! how could some one do that? Thats just sick! I hate how society is a piece of crap now....thats why I stopped reading the newspaper. I think it's fair that the kids got 15 years....I think they deserve the death penalty....but I dont know how the system works in Australia....but I think they deserve death too! Those sick twisted teens.....gross!

'but i don't know if they deserve death too'
you don't KNOW if they deserve death too? Of course they do, they took an innocent girl's life, for absolutely no reason, they took away a parents baby, in which they can NEVER replace, something, somebody they had no right to even LOOK at, they had the nerve to take it away, and they've ruined so many people's lives because of it; of course they deserve death.

Wow..how sick is it after reading those recent posts, my first thought was

"'I murdered an innocent girl I didn't like--I must be emo'"
