CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED

Beatlemania has hit your computer screens. This Fab Four were at the top of the charts in the 1960's. I just thought I'd bring them back.

This is going to be a 4 Round contest.

    Rules:
    1. One person per title
    2. Up to 3 titles per person (there are 42 to choose from in this round)
    3. Any style
    4. Should you actually know any of the lyrics, you're NOT allowed to use them!
    5. The deadline for this round will be June 7.

This is going to work a bit differently from most more-than-one-round contests. I am going to be taking a maximum of 30 poems to the next round. It doesn't matter if more than 2 of the poems I have chosen were done by the same person. It just means that that person gets to submit twice again in the next round. (Which will be a 2 title per person round: hence that person will be able to choose up to 4 titles). Make sense? If not, PM me.

Round 1: Max 30 poems go through to Round 2
Round 2: Max 15 poems go through to Round 3
Round 3: Max 6 poems go through to Round 4
    Round 4: Top 3 announced.

Xx Free As A Bird xX

    A Robin Redbreast
    Soaring through the cyan sky
    So happy, so free

    So free are the
    Birds of the sky
    How I wish that
    One day soon, I
    Will be free like them

    Free to roam and
    Soar the vast skies
    Free to travel
    Without being
    Held back in a cage

    I need to fly alone
    And find my own path
    Take a chance and
    Don't look back
All the answers will be clear
    If I could just learn
    To break free

    So free are the
    Birds of the sky
    How I was that
    One day soon, I
    Will be free as them

    Hello, Little Girl

The man uses his hawk-like eyes
    Stalking, hunting for his prey.
    Hides behind materialistic objects
    Knowing actions will cause dismay

He fell in love, unrequited love
A love that should not occur.
And yet he is, and he does,
    Younger women he prefers.

It would never work, nor will he force it
A love between the father and offspring.
Would love her better than any lover,
Only daughterly love she would bring to him

For now his daughter will smile at him
As he watches her with hawk-like eyes
Loving his lovely descendant from afar
Thoughts of love and sex he will disguise

    For You, Blue

    For you, blue
    Trilogy of pain
    Trembling Earth
    Ocean's mirth
    Heaven's dour disdain

    For you, blue
    Tempest shaken mark
    Fallen leaves
    Bitter breeze
    Cast into the dark

    For you, blue
    Love's incessant shade
    Extended hand
    Eternal band
    Exalted sweet aubade

    For you, blue
    Destiny's design
    Brilliant sky
    Prayer's reply
    Azure dreams align

    Nobody's Child

Nobody's child cries alone in the dark
Soured milk mixed in her tears leave a mark
Blonde curls in tangles, nits in her hair
Shadows on walls keep her company there

Small tv set plays on, Dora, Blues Clues
    Daddy loves liquor, neglected, abused
Mommy bipolar, won't take her meds
    Nobody's child forgotten instead

Endless the loneliness, hungry, in pain
Heartbreak, her ear aches, diapers unchanged
    Medicine scrips lie crumpled, unfilled
Nobody's child eating crumbs that she spilled

Nobody's child falling fast through the cracks
Precious time lost, can never give back
New mommy holds her, dries her sad eyes
Heaven at last heard the sweet baby's cries

Nobody's child is gone for today
Somebody loves her, she smiles and she plays
Arms hug her closely, tender the care
If she's hungry or lonely, her angel is there

    What goes on.

Your hands are at my feet, trying to compete
with my feelings not to stay,
But you never knew what to say.
    And now, when timing's vital,
I've grown accustomed to your recital.
And I don't believe your lies,
I'm not answering your questioning whys.
So as the sunset becomes sunrise,
I find time to say my goodbyes.

I'm feeling dizzy, with spots before my eyes,
Love burnt me and left my body torn and bruised,
    I'm bored of sitting unused,
    Maybe you're fed up, but
    it's not like I'm enthused...

But I know what goes on,
    Behind those closed doors,
And I recognise the sounds you make,
When you're pulsating on the floor.
I know which girl you'd rather explore,
I chose to ignore it, but not anymore.

    I know what goes on,
And I know the shoulder I wept upon,
And it was only a "shoulder" in the figurative sense...
    The impacts far too intense
    For me to handle,
So I retreat, knowing this story's far from complete.

    Carry That Weight

Weight she carries on her chest,
Within her thighs and legs as well.
    Unattractiveness means harder time,
    Beauty and slenderness does excel.

Perfection is to be the unachievable,
Meaning to be the beauty and the geek.
Nevertheless, this lady will achieve it
    Excellence this woman will seek.

Although, as hard as she might try,
Has not yet come close to the goal.
    Something she seeks within herself,
This woman does not yet feel whole.

    Incompetent feeling does not resign,
Above the surface this sensation lies.
False smiles does not work for her,
For this woman has no disguise.

She will carry this burden on her shoulder,
In her mind and in her thighs as well.
Large objects she would hide behind in,
Until realized beauty does not always excel.

    Her Majesty

    Princess walking down the isle,
    Inherited queen's beauty's galore.
    More elegance than Cinderella,
Prettier than the dress she wore.

While smiles are great, picture perfect
Evil thoughts run throughout her mind.
Princess of stature and beauty, a waste
For her whole sexuality is not aligned.

How to tell the queen she is not interested
Of all the many suitors that are bestowed
The dreams of motherhood are dispersed,
Is the princess following the wrong road?

Fantasies she has created in her head,
Of women servants doing ugly deeds
She has stopped before, never will again,
For it will help her sexually confused needs.

For now she will walk down the isle,
    As other women's jealousies ascend.
She will doubt herself and the others,
Knowing her feelings will never end.

    Please, Mr. Postman

John sits and wastes away by his bedroom window,
Looking out to the dampened street with broken blue eyes,
And the mailbox shines back at him under the moon aglow -
As he holds the bottle of whiskey and softly sighs.

And from sunrise to sunset he sits by the window sill,
Waiting to see the postman stop and hand him a letter,
But as the children run to and fro - no sign of him still,
Crying, he whispers his forgotten words to her sweater.

But from the corner of his eyes he sees a man in blue,
Stopping to check his list as he walks and shakes his head,
And John runs out just to hear: "Sorry Sir, there's no letter for you."
But as he bowed his head to leave, he turned back and said:

"Please, Mr Postman, for five years I have waited for you,
To just once place a letter addressed to me in my aging hands,
And everyday, you walk by here and look at me so true,
Before you shake your head and stare down to my wedding band -

If you're wondering, she left me but told me she'd write,
And when I looked at her, I knew she wasn't lying,
So just tell me, there's a letter there for me, am I right?"
And the postman looked back at him, slowly denying -

"Sir, if there was a letter here I would hand it to you,
But there's not so you'll just have to hold on and wait,"
John bowed his head and sighed: "I wish that were true,
But please, Mr Postman, tell me so I can get my head straight."

And as that postman looked into eyes that he knew,
He took a deep breath as he lifted up his mail sack,
And holding a letter, he looked to John's eyes of blue,
As tears filled in his own of green, he turned his back.

John hit his old knees in the early morning dew,
As he read over the tattered words she had wrote,
And he looked behind for a rival he never knew,
Walking alone with letters in a black and worn tote.

    Crying Waiting Hoping

It frustrates me because you must know
They way I feel for you
So don't pretend or fake innocence
    The facade is through

If you love me, here's one last chance
    Before I turn away
I've never been good at playing games
    That has yet to change

This half-hand hold is killing me
So let go or hold tight
    I won't be a decision you can't make
    We are wrong or right

    I'm through crying, waiting, hoping
    This is the final straw
Profess your love or choke it down
    Keep it or withdraw

That cheap little homewrecker from two doors down,
With her blond hair, fake eyelashes and bright blue eyes,
Is spreading her name and her love all around town,
And covering all the married men in her pitiful little lies.

With a miniskirt and tight shirt wrapped around her,
She walked her tanned legs right up to my man,
Tripping over her own two feet, she started to slur,
As she held out her hand, introducing herself as Cheyanne.

And I walked right up to her, looking at the stories in her eyes,
As I held out my hand and introduced myself as his wife,
Her eyes went all wide as she lost control of her disguise,
And I said: "Honey, I've known girls like you all of my life -

Walking around as fake as those famous Hollywood girls,
But you get a false claim to fame under the bed sheets,
And a girl like you would prefer to be draped in diamonds and pearls,"
I took a breath and looked at her as she looked at me in defeat -

"So back up and walk yourself back home to a different guy,
Because this one here, he's staying devoted to only me,
And I'm sorry for throwing all your tattered hopes up to the sky,
But from now on, keep your homewreckin' hands off my baby!"

And I never seen that girl around my yard again after that day,
But in the beauty parlor there was talk of her name,
"Keep your homewreckin' hands off my baby!" Is what they all say,
Talking of the day that I rose my own nine words to fame.

    [VERSE 1]

The soundtrack to my summer was filled
With songs written and played by him
And on that mixed tape he softly spilled
Every thought inside his beating heart to me.
It was the fifth of June when he said,
"Baby, I'm gonna love you forever and always"
And I couldn't get those words out of my head,
But he took me in his strong arms and held me -
The rain was pouring down, when he took my hand,
He told me to run with him to the old red barn,
In his Daddy's field, through the green farmland.
And that door was squeaking on it's hinges that night,
But we sat in the sheltered barn together,
And he softly kissed my forehead in the moonlight,
As we looked out to the Strawberry fields.

    [CHORUS]

Up in the hayloft, he asked if I was ready,
And with lust in my eyes I said yes,
Holding me close and holding me steady,
He laughed at my shaking breath.
With a bottle of Strawberry wine by our sides,
And the June moon watching everything,
We layed together, letting our lips collide -
In our hearts there's strawberry fields forever.

    [VERSE 2]

September came again and school was here,
He ran off with a girl named Sue to Nashville,
And year after year, I still come to this frontier -
Looking to that old red barn with squeaky doors.
For the first few months, I'd call him late at night,
Just to hear his voice and silent thoughts,
And although my head was filled with spite,
I still had that fading picture of us together.
And June fifth every year, I'll walk alone,
Down to that abandoned farm with strawberry wine,
And I'll sit and remember this milestone -

    [VERSE 3]

I remember the day that I got the dreaded call,
From a childhood friend of ours,
Hearing those six words, I took the fall -
"Sorry to say, but Jordan died."
The funeral was on June fifth, a small ceremony,
And in his casket I softly placed a bottle,
With all the misty eyes focussed on me,
I turned and whispered to him -

    [CHORUS]

Up in the hayloft, you asked if I was ready,
And with lust in my eyes I said yes,
Holding me close and holding me steady,
You laughed at my shaking breath.
With a bottle of Strawberry wine by our sides,
And the June moon watching everything,
We layed together, letting our lips collide -
In our hearts there's strawberry fields forever.

...Up in the hayloft, he asked if I was ready,
And with lust in my eyes I said yes,
Holding me close and holding me steady,
He laughed at my shaking breath.

Do You Want to Know a Secret?
    by SecludedSerendipity

"Do you want to know a secret?" I asked you that very day.
"Sure!" you replied enthusiastically, unsure of what I'd say.
    I smiled oh so widely, my porcelain white teeth shining bright;
You had no idea that my hidden secret would scar you with fright.

I told you all about it, the unborn child laying in my womb,
The one of which you fathered and would arrive only too soon.
I'd never seen somebody look so aghast at something I'd proclaimed,
Yet inside I felt somewhat happy, not feeling a single ounce of shame.

You see that's what you get, when you act like a typical jerk,
The type who'd use girls for sex, and take credit for doing no work.
I paid for our house, I paid for the car, yet all of the money went to you,
Now it was your turn to sit in the dark, at the stroke of midnight, feeling blue.

Payback's a bitch, and oh boy that couldn't be more true,
Now get half a backbone, straighten up, and do what you need to do.
For once in your little pathetic, sordid life, take responsibility
For your actions. Surprise me and show that you hold some nobility.

"Do you want to know a secret?" I asked you that very day.
"Sure!" you replied enthusiastically, unsure of what I'd say.
    I smiled oh so widely, my porcelain white teeth shining bright;
You had no idea that my hidden secret would scar you with fright.

    Every Little Thing

I've given up on sleeping, since I just toss and turn,
From the nightmares all about you, and the covers start to burn.

Every moment spent together plays like a movie in my mind.
There isn't a fast-forward but it's sure stuck on the rewind.

I don't regret the good times, and I don't hate the bad.
It's just killing me to know, they'll be all we ever had.

Flipping through the channels, I saw the Falcons score,
But this house won't hear, your shouts of joy anymore.

On Tuesday I did laundry, and found your shirt among the pile.
I held it close to smell the scent that's been missing for a while.

At the grocery store, down the aisles I packed the food,
When in tears I realized I wasn't cooking for two.

This rope I'm at the end of is fraying string by string
Because memories haunt me by every little thing.

    There's a place

    There's a woman with a map,
    And she'll telling me there's a place,
But I don't trust her face
Anymore than, I trusted the lies that came out your mouth.

But look where that got me.

    Friendless, broken and alone,
    With the tiredness I groan.
    Looking for a different space,
    I hear that voice again
    Telling me there's a place.

    Balancing with the stability
    Of a precarious circus act.
I know I have the ability,
    But opinion isn't fact.

    All the stars needed,
Was a little bit of gravity, the right time, right place,
But astronomers have their problems and we're not talking out of space...

All it would have taken was a friend,
But there's a name for people like you,
    And there's a different side you'll see,
And there's a place for me...
A place for people like me...

    Some Other Guy

    You could have had me
    If you'd wanted to try.
    But it was your loss
    When love you denied.

    A single red rose
    With a three word letter,
    A candlelit dinner
    Would have been better.

    A conversation lasting
    More than five minutes,
    A happy moment
With both of us in it.

    It would have been nothing,
    To satisfy my heart,
But you threw it to pieces
    And left all the parts.

    It took the infatuation
    To really pass away
    So my dimmed eyes,
Could see the light of day.

    Anyone else can
    Take my breath away
    By whispering words
    You never thought to say.

    They could tell a joke
    Just to see my smile
    And to have my heart,
    Walk that extra mile.

    It wouldn't be hard
    To outdo your best try.
I could have twice the love
    From some other guy.

Hopefully I got this in before judging. A lot has been going on and I just got your message. So. Here it is.

    Take Out Some Insurance, Baby

Baby, you're as interesting as a news flash and as pretty as the anchor man
And as far as you're concerned, Lincoln's still in the running.
    The government isn't allowing gay marriages, so you've found your way around it;
More than your ex-wife, that transvestite you are dating is certainly stunning.

May-day, may-day! You've forgotten the basics of seduction and kissing,
Placing your hands against her hips and make her squirm, hunny.
    You've got a lot to learn in Sex 101, but maybe you should learn from me;
I can teach you the body and it won't cost you any money.

    You've got enough protection with me teaching you what your body needs;
But just encase, let's go over it one more time, encase you've disregarded the class.
    Forget the insurance; you won't need on this course through life;
There's a little more to Sex 101 then understanding the body; you've got a lot to pass.

    I'll teach you the basics to Touching if you give me a crash course in Words;
    You make me squirm, baby, with everything about you;
    Give me a crash course that I'll enjoy and I'll return the favor;
There's more to picking out your protection then what people review.

I'll accept your poem. (Lucky shot though)

I know there are less than 30 but I decided that I'll have to rethink my strategy a bit by making it a maximum of 30 poems(so if there are less - which there are - i will take that amout through).

In other words, there is good news for all of you.

You ALL make it through to the next round!!!!!!

The number next to your name is the number of poems you will be allowed to choose in the next round:

    *Gem* (Max2)
    Heavy Hearts Bleed (Max6)
    Startle Me (Max6)
    Sandy (Max4)
    debbylyn (Max6)
    Espoir*failed (Max4)
    Britt (Max2)
    Lush.Fcuk-*/Jenna (Max6)
    Charisma* (Max6)
    RateD X xPAOLO CARREONx (Max4)
    SecludedSerendipity (Max2)
    xTheEcstasyofSuicidex (Max2)

This amount is the maximium number of poems each poet may choose, but it is NOT a must. If you choose to take less titles, that's completely up to you. But I will only be putting up 35 titles, so first come first serve, so to speak. if needbe (say everyone takes there max amount) I will then post more titles or open it to 2 per title. But we'llsee when we get there, k? :)

I will post round two this weekend. Look out for it...
