Judging from the past century, 100 years brings a huge difference. Here are some U.S. statistics for 1904 ....

The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii And Alaska had not been admitted to the Union yet.
The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was 30.
Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union.
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea didn't exist.
The average life expectancy in the US was 47.
More than 95% of all BIRTHS in the US took place at HOME.
The five leading causes of death in the US were: 1. Pneumonia & influenza. 2. Tuberculosis. 3. Diarrhea. 4. Heart disease. 5. Stroke.
Only 14% of the homes in the US had a BATHTUB.
Most women only washed their HAIR once a month and used BORAX or EGG YOLKS for shampoo.
Only 8% of the homes had a TELEPHONE.
A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost $11.
There were only 8,000 CARS in the US and only 144 miles of paved ROADS.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
There were no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.
The average wage in the US was $0.22/hour. The average US worker made between $200-$400/year.
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000/year, a dentist $2,500/year, a veterinarian between $1,500-$4,000/year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000/year.
Sugar cost $0.04/pound. Eggs were $0.14/dozen. Coffee cost $0.15/pound.
90% of all US physicians had NO COLLEGE education. Instead, they attended medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard."
Canada passed a law prohibiting POOR people from entering the country for any reason.
Only 6% of all Americans had graduated from HIGH SCHOOL.
One in ten US adults could not read or write.
18% of households in the US had at least one full-time SERVANT or domestic employee.
There were only about 230 reported MURDERS in the entire US.

I think the world will be here, but it will be pretty much derelict. to tell the truth I'm glad I was born 14 years ago and not now, because at least in 100 years time I probably won't be here.

Bob -- I agree that the world faces big problems and challenges in a lot of the ways you refer to. But I also believe in the basic goodness of humanity and that it will ultimately prevail. Goodness doesn't pertain to everyone, just most. I tend to look at the glass as half full.

The world is far from ideal and while I see some regression I also see a lot of historic progress over the past half century. I didn't personally witness most of it. But mankind has enormously benefitted from huge advances took place in science, technology, medicine, agriculture and almost every other field. Things that were great advances, such as the development of polio vaccine, are now taken for granted. I know that science can have a downside and, like most other things, it can be harnessed to accomplish evil purposes. But the benefits of science have far outweighed its drawbacks.

For forty years the biggest fear on earth was the threat of a coming armageddon between nuclear superpowers. In the 1980s that threat evaporated with the end of the cold war and disappearance of the Iron Curtain. And had it not been for the end of the cold war, this web site could never have become a reality, since it is based in a former Iron Curtain country.

These are just a few reasons I see a trend pointing to hope and optimism in the future.

Hopefully in 100 years the kiddies will have even cooler video games. You know, like the Matrix but sans the dying and the machines and everything. And the neck plug in. That looked kind of painful.
...right. I guess I'll just stick to the PS2.

everyone says global warming..wanna know whats funny, they dont know how long global warming has been going on, infact they have evidence that it happened millions of years ago before humans were around..seems to me to be an excuse from someone to support hydrogen cars or something.

in my opinion, the world is doomed. this is what will happen in the next hundred years..

1 i will rule the world and tell every religious leader they are wrong..personally.

ok that was a joke..but still. ok, but seriously eventually all religion will either blend, or end in general, eventually people will either become self reliant/rebelious, or they will accept other religions over time.

America will get invaded, taken over, poof, gone. it doesnt matter who does it, its happening, dont disagree, because if you look at history no country can oppress the world and get away with it..for long.

The world will run out of fossil fuels, hope you like your bike......

    And much MUCH more.
