    Forever and a Million Days
    By: Twisted Heart

The night is now a refuge for the soul
Dipped among the shadows that crushed so long ago
Tipping from the kiss of his desire
Comes the sinking of his touch upon the tepid fire.

Per chance a happened meeting on that night
As darkness overtook the streets, lone candles burning bright
A dusty fate upon a shivered heart
Two single dots where blood was stole, the only scars.

In surrender to his call I slowly fell
Mindless of the danger of his touch that sealed my hell
Only truth of longing for release
Inside his eyes my soul was caught for eternity.

Now nights will find me restless in my dreams
Waiting for his voice upon the night he'll call to me
I'll rise and go inside his arms to lay
To quench his bloody thirst, forever and a million days.

I can see her face painted in your eyes,
I can hear her voice in all of your lies,
You have your history, that I know -
And running back to her is where you go.
She holds my world in her arms,
And just like me, she falls for your charm -
But the next time you turn to part,
Leave behind my battered broken heart.

    [CHORUS]

    Turn around sweet baby, walk out that door;
I can't deal with her baggage anymore,
When I look at you I see her pretty little face,
Smiling as she stands in your embrace.
Turn around sweet baby, I just can't look at you -
My days of loving you are finally through,
Because I can't fall for someone who is running -
Back into the arms of their ex so stunning.

    [VERSE 2]

You spent the night last night, tangled in her sheets,
Ate a mint and tucked in your shirt to cover your deceit,
And creeping over the squeaking hardwood floor,
You layed down beside the one to whom you swore -
That you and her were over, a thing of the past,
So can you tell me why my hearts breaking this fast?

    [CHORUS]

    [VERSE 3]

There's a tissue in the bathroom, used and red -
From the lipstick stains she left, you said:
"That's from you babe, don't get me wrong,"
But I haven't worn lipstick in so long.
Your old suit was in the laundry for cleaning,
    With the smell of perfume covering all meaning;
But you said: "Baby, that's yours, get some sleep,"
But I don't wear perfume that smells that cheap.
You left all the clues laying around for me to put together,
But through it all, you were still thinking of her -

    [CHORUS]

...She holds my world in her arms,
And just like me, she falls for your charm -
But the next time you turn to part,
Leave behind my battered broken heart.

    Traveler

He picks up that old bag; holding my pale hand,
With tears in his bright eyes; hands me a gold band -
"This is my promise to you, from the bottom of my heart,
I will make it back to you Babe, create a new start."

And he slid that ring onto my finger as he sighed:
"I'm sorry;" He started, looking at me wide-eyed,
"The train whistle is blowing, I've got to go!"
He yelled, kissing my face as white as snow.

I watched his face disappear, hand print on the window,
And I stood there every night under the stars aglow,
Waiting and hoping that train would come for me to see,
My traveler making his way back home to me.

I tore the curtains off; painted the walls a shade of army green,
I watched every movie with a happy home coming scene,
Skipping over the blood and the gore; the falling men,
Hoping and praying to see the sweet face of my traveler again.

The men that arrived, carrying all his belongings to me,
    Were afraid to tell me the news, their tears I could see;
"I'm sorry ma'am, but your husband has died,"
They told me that morning, but I told myself they lied.

Now standing here watching for the headlights of the train,
I wait for a glimpse of his army green; leaning on my cane,
Time slows down to a halt, as strangers faces blur to and fro,
Reminding me of the traveler I lost for them so long ago.

Category 6...Painless Bottle and Turn around sweet Baby.....I'm off to write them now!

    Painless Bottle- Elizabeths story

I've never known what its like
To have a father who truly cares
I've been mentally scarred by mine
And he's out there who knows where

See my daddy always came home
With the smell of alcohol on his breath
There was never a day that I didn't hear
    "Toss me a bottle Elizabeth"

    I always wondered why
What did he want another beer for?
When he had five at the bar
And just bought a 24 pack from the corner store

One time he beat my mother with it
I watched that bottle crack over her skull
I stood there wanting to help so bad
But daddy was just to angry to console

    His drunkenness ruined their marriage
His beer bottles meant more than her
They also caused my dad to be blind to see
    He had an attention-less daughter

With a trash can full of bottles
He left us when I was ten
With nothing to show for a father
He was never seen or heard of again

Now that I'm grown and moved on
I've met a man who stole my heart
    Theres never a moment I don't smile
There's never a time we are apart

One day at the beach he said
"This happened to come from sea"
He handed me a bottle with the cork on
And he smiled and looked at me

I popped it open and had flashbacks
There was a note inside titled Love of my life
I opened it and it read
"I love you Beth, be my wife"

For the first time since I was young
I held a bottle that wasn't full of pain
With memories of my father no longer in my head
I knew this is how it would remain

    "Traveler"

    Through the heavy curtain
    Of pure synthetic noise
    My ears follow the airwaves
    To find again my voice

But what I have to say
Doesn't sound like me at all
"I don't really like to travel
I'm just sleeping where I fall"

Through the mumbles and the stares
    I suddenly stand out
You know it's not a cry for help
But you would if you knew how

    Never had a clear-cut path
Of who I was to be
    Found myself in old hotels
    Courting sex and LSD

    The rails beckon me again
As I long to go back home
But I have no idea where that is
Or if I really want to know

"So come on, who's with me?"
I throw the question to you
"Do you long for safety or
To hop a train or two?"

Alright, I sigh, you don't care
I'll take rejection with a smile
I never fit in with society
But I'll go out with style

"Forever and a Million Days", category one, please.

I have a question though, does our poem need to fit all the categories within each number? E.g Would my poem have to be about love, sadness AND darkness?

  • Teria

No, the poem doesn't have to be about all, just whichever you choose to do it about.
