If The World Had a Front Porch

If the world had a front porch,
I think I'd rather stay inside.
Shut the windows, close the curtains
Lock the doors behind which I hide.

A box of Kleenex and first aid kit
Should help me survive the view
Of people killing people
Innocent ones like me and you

I'd shrivel under the covers
When sick ones go walking by
With AIDS and Hepatitis.
Just by breathing, I could die.

I'd need a bag of groceries
To give when I pass the children
Who have swollen bellies of nothing
And look more like bone and skin.

My cellphone should be handy.
I know I'll see plenty of crime.
Murders, Theivery, Kidnapping
The news tells me all the time.

I swear if I ever have to leave
I'll wear a bulletproof vest,
And a mask so I breathe safely
On that dangerous quest.

If we truly took a look out there
At this painful, gruesome view
Oh, if the world had a front porch
You'd be hiding somewhere too.

Paint Me A Brimingham

Far from my best, but we all have to just write some days and vent. Tell me what you honestly think. And. The title I wanted was too long, so.

If you want, I'll be your paints if you're the painter,
And I'll even be the nail that holds your canvas to the wall;
And when you sit alone during the night, crying to your paintings,
I'll be the dirty brush you left in the sink; I promise to save you, if you call.

Baby, pick up your brush and arrange the colors to fall like your tears;
I'll hold you well into the night until you finish this master piece of broken intentions.
You think the painting doesn't matter, but look what it reflects --
Keep crying to your brush and see the creation you never intended.

You can't fall now; you'll take down the painting with you; the one thing you have left,
And we wouldn't want to ruin that; it's oh so beautiful when you look at it in the light.
It shines with shadows so dark you've yet to realize they're all yours
And the glory of beauty shines so bright, that the gods are reflecting it in the clouds.

There's something about the demons that are crawling through your eyes
That intimidate me, but oh, I'll still stick around; you're too beautiful to lose,
And baby, I'll hold you higher than the gods hold the angels;
Because there's something about you I just can't comprehend [you make me wonder].

Caressing that brush is like the lost treasure to you; you value it more than most,
But there's something about the way I want to be that brush that's disturbing;
At least I can be the one to hold you and be the one to save you; the brush can't
And you'll be thanking me later, not the colors on your canvas.

Just ask for my name personally and I'll be the nail that holds your masterpiece to the wall.

Stars Over Texas

A beautiful golden staircase led her up into the sky,
As a glimmering sapphire tear drop fell from her eye,
And she whispered a painful goodbye to what she knew,
As she turned her back and walked away from you.

She was draped from head to toe in pearls and lace,
And she walked tall and proud; she walked with grace -
With white high heels and a heart of blackened stone;
She took the first step into the dark unknown.

And you stood with your guitar; playing a sad song,
Before you stood and faced the stars to bid so long -
But her flawless smile was flashing inside your head,
As you played back all the words she had ever said.

But you burned her pictures and said goodbye,
Just to fill her memory with another pathetic lie;
And you moved on from what you swore not to miss,
As she hit her knees screaming on the stars over Texas.

Holes That He Dug

Day after day
He dug up dirt.
Today it was a grave
For an old man named, Burt.

What a rotten job
To do all his life,
But someone had to provide
For his sons and his wife.

To the cemetery,
He is just a slave -
Spending every day
Digging up graves.

The forty years spent digging
Have, on his face, begun to show -
But that today he would be digging his grave,
He could never have known.

Okay. The contest was suppose to end yesterday but the server had a problem so anyone that wants to enter now can still enter. But I am leaving tomorrow for a week so I will not be on here. This now ends July 10th.
