You are in the sadness and depression thread Laura...a thread that always has sad and depressing news and views. For the most part, sadness and depression are caused by chemical imbalances. Situations that depress us help to cause them.

I don't know if I would force myself to eat were I in your shoes (thus tempting the cycle of anorexia to begin) but many of the physical traits you decribe here are related to malnutrition and a way of your body to tell you that you need to eat.

A lack of appetite is directly related to a change in seratonin and endorphin levels in the brain often affected by any number of things such as drug use, smoking and so on.

A broken heart has a major effect on this...

I would suggest a trip to a health care professional who can prescribe some very very mild antidepressants that will help to balance any imbalance you may have. They are very effective in placing one back into a proper frame of mind where an appetite will return.

True...these were only cited as examples...

I've noted that there are many depressed people in this discussion group here and many more who enter to offer advise from their experiences. A noble endeavor but the care of a health care professional is advised.

    Symptoms of anorexia are:

-Loss of at least 3 consecutive menstrual periods (in women).
-Not wanting or refusing to eat in public
    -Anxiety
    -Weakness
    -Brittle skin
    -Shortness of breath
    -Obsessiveness about calorie intake

    well those are just some.

    Yes?

You're 14 (according to your profile) and probably a small person still...these symptoms come upon smaller individuals faster...

    A fewe facts then...
in order for the human body to survive, one must eat. if you do not eat or drink then after a couple o days you have your symptoms...after a week of not eating or drinking, the body expires. if you do not eat but do drink fluids, the body can sustain itself for a longer period. a lack of fluids causes the heart to become weak.

looking at food and becoming ill is an early symptom of a serious eating disorder which is caused by psycological issues. rarely that I know of does it begin as a physical issue.

The treatment of a health care provider for some minor antidepressants is inexpensive and effective and at worst if will open dialoges with you and your parents that could prove significantly benificial to you.

yes liquids are good but in the long run, they will not sustain you

Keep in mind that one of the biggest signs of heading for depression (either dysthymia or cyclothymia) is a change in eating habits. So yes, it is possible for an eating disorder to go hand in hand with an emotional disorder.

  • Viola

Yeah that could be a possibility..
Laura, this does not mean you have an eating disorder..or that you will develop one. just make sure to stay as nourished as possible so you can prevent heading down that direction..

Get help....I've been in your spot too...it's really tough...you feel like crud but you like how skinny you got. You'll gain it back i've been anorexic twice and it doesn't work. you can't not eat all your life! Shaking is low blood sugar thats a problem and its the lack of food. dizziness comes along with it all. And hair loss, pale skin, nasua, and all that bad stuff. You might not feel hungry but your body will hold on to any fat you have! It's called starvation Mode. This is not worth it. Cut portions. don't erase them. You are falling into a disorder and need to get out before you end up in a hospital bed with tubes up your nose. Girl, there are many better ways to do it than this. Your desroying your body! Deit the right way! Don't stavre it wont last! the weight will fall off but come right back!

I used to not eat when i was younger because every time i ate something i felt incredibly sick, i lost alot of weight which made me even more ill, to put it simple although i was rather young at the time i found a way by putting my mind on other things and eating slower, now i cant stop thinking of food....which sometime i think not wanting to eat was better.

3mma, you don't just go and pick up an eating disorder if you don't feel like eating for a while. quick, grab the sandwich, before it gets you!

    gosh.
