Smoking is disgusting. Really, I'm not just saying that because it's been preached to me since day 1. My grandma smokes a few packs a day. Her teeth are yellow, she WREAKS (not to mention her breath, which is deadly), her skin is gray, the whites of her eyes are yellow, her hair is gray and matted, her lungs are coated in who the hell knows what...and her voice is hoarse like a donkey. It's hell to listen to.

She was once a lovely woman. Before she took up smoking.

Smoking is a nasty habit. But I try not to judge those who smoke, because I was once a smoker myself, actually I quit about a month ago. You smell bad all the time, you don't look pretty, you can't breathe when you walk up stairs...it's just terrible. My dad's Aunt smokes like a chimney and her walls are yellowed with nicotine, and her house smells disguisting, me and my mom couldn't stand it. Plus it makes you sick...and it's deadly. I don't really know who would have a good opinion about smoking..even if they do smoke. Most smokers I know wish that they would've never started.

You know it's not cool, but damn, I love watching a good looking woman smoking. I know she is damaging her health and those around her...but....it just slays me every time.

My views on smokers ? That they were idiots for starting in the first place, but my ex smokes once in a while beacuse it's his outlet from stress so I don't really like grouping them all together .

My views on the actual SMOKiNG though : Ugh . Horrible . Disgusting . It's repulsive in my view . The smell makes me want to hurl and my aunt got lung cancer from second hand smoke -- from my uncle who smokes all the time . I don't like it . It caused him pain and it caused her early death .

I can't stand being around someone who smokes. my parents both smoke so i end up going to school smelling like it. and its so gross. i don't like the smell of it either. not only that but it gives u a high chance of getting cancer. so w/e if people want cancer then go ahead and buy all the cancer stix in the world

Well, I try not to judge smokers, because I too have my addictions, like, chocolate, say... I mean, we all have nasty habits, and most smokers are old enough that whether they smoke or not is their responsibility.
Nevertheless, I would appreciate it if they wouldn't smoke next to me. I hate it when someone is walking really slowly in the street in front of you, blocking your way, and smoking, forcing you to inhale second-hand smoke. And I've also come very close to being burnt by a woman who hurried past with a cigarette in her hand and very almost grazed my arm.

Personally, I would never smoke because I need my lungs. Trust me, irish dancing and bad lungs do not go together. It's expensive, too, and time consuming...

    Yay mike!!!!
personally i think smoking is really bad, not only because it is bad for the smoker and everything, but because so many people get killed by secondhand smoke and so if you smoke you are just contributing to those deaths.

I used to smoke. I started at the start of ninth grade. But my girlfriend (who was merely an aquantence at the time whom I liked) told me in the start of tenth grade that the smell of smoke makes her feel sick. I quit then. That was nearly a year ago.

I feel better, I am healthier, and my girlfriend just recently found out that I even smoked at all and thought that it was really sweet that I quit for her. So it was all a plus. :)

I must admit I love a ciggie after dinner, or on a cold night when standing outside or walking briskly from a movie or something... and I love one when Im driving on a sunny day and singing my lungs out to a good song on the radio, arm out the window getting burnt only on one side...

I do admit it does stink. Its bad for me. I'll quit oneday but for now Im enjoying it.

I don't plan to live forever, infact the sooner im diagnosed with terminal cancer the better :P I just think that it's not right for people to smoke around others that dont want to inhale it-respect their space, hopefully they'll repect your choice!

I quit about 5 months ago, hurrah! the smell and taste is just so sickening.
but oh boy, when i drink, i get cravings like you wouldn't believe... my mom's the same way..
however, now that i'm on birth control i can't smoke even when i want to.
my boyfriend smokes and if i'm sober while he's smoking, i usually make a face and say something about 'cancer sticks' or something..

There are some fairly ignorant posts in this thread. Smokers are going to die? What about second-hand smokers? What about everyone in general? We're all going to die. Eventually.

  • OMGdanielle

    When i smoked, i didn't quit because i thought i would die.
that's moronic. as the posts above me say, WE ALL DIE.
i just dont like being stinky and giving all my money to the government to make me stinky.

Did you know that australia per head of population has the smallest number of people who smoke

  • OMGdanielle

Eh, all i'm saying is for some reason i stopped liking the smell and taste. maybe i should have just switched brands?
to tell the honest truth, i would start up again, if i could.

i never had a problem with physical activity, either, i was a year-round athlete. whilst many of my friend had difficulties walking up the four flights of stairs in my high school.
whatever rocks your world... i think smoking is overfocused. it is what it is... just leave it be.

oh, and is it really the paper that smells? i never knew that, that's interesting. i thought it was from the mixture of chemicals in them?

yeah and that just speedens up the process. you'd regret saying that, if you were still smoking, and were lying in a hospital bed with cancer. it's hardly moronic, 90% of lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking.

i'm so glad that they've banned smoking from restaurants. the only annoying thing is that now more people smoke on the streets.

I don't smoke myself but my parents do, Marcus does and his parents do.
I don't particularly like it, but who am i to tell them what to do. Smokers will only quit when THEY want to.
The more you preach to them, the more they will do it.
Sure smokers may die from lung cancer, but i may get hit by a bus 2moro, we all die eventually.

You're still missing the point, YES, everybody is going to die. you could walk across the road and a toilet seat could fall on your head, but still! what does that actually have to do with this? it's not some form of 'promising' metaphor. it's a ridiculous thing to say. that's like saying, keep on stabbing yourself, you never know, you might get AIDs before you die. smoking isn't good for you, it's disgusting. your arteries are clogged full of disgusting lumpy white stuff, and if you smoke in public, you're immediately selfish. a lot of people die from secondhand smoke. when i'm walking on the street, it's bad enough to have my face covered in exhaust pipes, but to have some woman walking next to me breathing down my face with her cigarette fumes going up my nostrils just isn't fair. why can't we just be like Singapore. it's banned there. i'm beyond having any respect for freedom with drugs, alcohol and smoking. it's got to the point where you can't let people do what they want to do whenever they want to do it. half the population is too thick to make responsible decisions for themselves and it'd do the world a great deal of good if we just banned it altogether.

  • limp

You've just said what i stated IN there as though i didn't say it at all. i said it about ALCOHOL and DRUGS as well, i'm not pinpointing smoking. outside shops where everyone is sitting etc, public places, should be smokefree. do it in your house, yeah, but banning smoking would stop so many people from having that first puff. from ruining their insides. i also mentioned it's bad enough having car's pipe exhausts being in my face. really you've just contradicted something i said in a false way. i've thought about banning smoking, and i've seen it. i've seen it in singapore and it's wonderful. they've got such a progression on the UK and USA it's unbelievable. their country is dirt free, smoke free and every single person who lives there respects that. i guess there's a difference here and there though, we're too ignorant to believe it can do any better for us because of selfish needs. and i like coffee, so why would i tell another coffee fan not to drink it? yeah, back atcha.

I agree with Apathetic Soul, it's a big price to pay, it's a nice way to waste your life, especially the heavy smokers. . . and when you start, it's hard to quit. . . If that's what you've always wanted . . . well, lets just say that smoking is a pretty dumb idea

  • OMGdanielle

In hawaii, its illegal to smoke 20 feet from any building. that threw my mother into a tizzy, ahahaha.

OH, and bangbang? when i'm dying in a hospital bed from cancer, i'll be sure to have an honorary cigarette, just for you.

  • limp

^wow that's REALLY funny and sarcastic and clever and mature. you should be proud that you said it, because you know, it was just such a witty thing to say.

you're 15. grow up. do you want to be like all the chavvy losers who go around smoking like it's so fashionable, as well as their bums and knickers hanging out of their trousers? don't come to me with that load.

bob, 'caned to death' is exactly what should happen if people are stupid enough to break the rules. so the last thing i'd say on that was GOOD. at least they stand up for what they believe in and actually do something about it. i mean for christs sake, they cane foreigners out of the place and our jails are too full so that small robberies aren't even considered crimes anymore. shows the difference.

and singapore is pretty much clean overall. anywhere the government can get to, is basically the same as the 'downtown' you mentioned. obviously EVERYWHERE hasn't been gotten to yet but there's building work and stuff being done about it overnight. still, back to the subject, smoking is bad, we all know that. it's also stupid. i'm not singling anyone out, it's just a stupid thing to do. sure, free will, you're so great that you're allowed to argue about the positivity of smoking, or that you don't care if you die from it because a coconut could get to you first. i'm sticking with the whole 'smoking is stupid' thing.
