The environment

    Hey to everyone out there...
I just saw some stuff today that made me want to rage at the goverment. Did you know that when a car stalls for over 10 seconds, it emitts more into the air, then it would to turn your car off, then back on. Then I realized that red lights, along with drive throughs, are two downfalls that widely exploit this. I discussed with a friend making drive throughs illegal, because of their immense impact on an already fragile environment. What are you thoughts on this?
Please, only intelligent, well thought answers should be posted. Also, please be ready to defend your argument!
    Thanks.

Good point , let's make drive throughs ilegal , so that the people who work there can help the people waiting inside much faster ,

Well the drive thrus really shouldn't be responsible.....it's kind of indirectly taking care of the problem. However, the car manufacturers need to come up with better emissions control. Some states have codes in place to enforce this. Go to the root of the problem not by hitting it indirectly.

To live green go yellow. I think that the old fashioned gas should be banned and we should use that new ethanol gas or anything else that is developed to help save the environment. I'm big on saving nature. I want every school to make earth day a big celebration. Every school should be required to watch that Al Gore called An Inconvenient Truth. It's such a good movie. And really any class can be turned into an earth day class. Math classes can calculate, chart, and all kinds of things having to do with the pollution! English can have students discuss and write about what's going on in the world. History would have to be going back to see what the earth use to look like, seeing what it looks like now, and seeing what is predicted to look like. Then all the other classes can do their normal thing or whatever. It all depends on the class really. I can go on and on really.  I’m interested in those new light bulbs as well. The only thing that bugs me is that every advertisement I see says nothing about how to dispose of it. It contains mercury (bad!) and if it’s disposed of in the wrong way it could just lead to worse things…

I don't know much about different cars and types of gases...but I lived in Germany for three years and didn't see one intersection with lights. They used roundabouts, which are starting to become a fad in America. It's really a great way to keep traffic moving, and to cut down at least a little bit on pollution.

Thanks for the replies. In a general response, that is true about killing the problem entirely. But which is harder? Baby steps are a historicaly proven method for bringing down wrongs.
Again, all the ethanol and alternitive gases are good ideas too. Also, I love the roundabout idea... although it does promote more driving. It's true, people will never cut back on their driving, and the new car types will help. I know that my city was planning on making parking free for "Smart Cars" which are very invironmentaly friendy, but ugly as possible.
What do you think the public repsonse to the ban of drive-thrus would be?

The environment makes me happy in pants.

As I've said before, we should all be riding, not driving.

You can't outlaw drive-tru's they're much too conveint for the general people on the move. Alot of people don't have time to drive into the parking lot, park, walk inside and stand in line for a cup of coffee or what ever; so they just go through the drive thru, besides that, most of us are much to lazy to even think of a life without the drive thru! LOL, but most of that I was really serious about.

Yeah it is true, the general public is lazy... but is the small sacrifice worth the large change?

You're right in the thinking that people should stop something for the benefit of mankind and the earth. But let's face it, the earth is trying it's best to repair itself, and what do we do we stuff it up in terms of using ecologically safe means to better ourselves.

As long as we are all alive...The earth will slowly die...

That is the fact of life.
