Iambic pentameter

First, I'd like to say sorry that the first post I do on this website is a question... it seems a bit rude but that is why I intially came here from a google result.

Maybe someone could still help me though.

I do not understand Iambic pentameter, to make it simple, lets just say I'm foolish. I've tried searching for similar topics and found some good information, such as that penta is of 5, and iambic pentameter is written in a stressed unstressed fashion.

I do not understand what is meant though by stressed/unstressed, I have see the de Dum, de Dum, de Dum and know that a stressed is one that has a natural force to it when verbally said such as the word skull.

But when I try to figure it out on my own I cannot. For example. My brush I use to clean my teeth.

I believe that I sounds stressed but how do I know for certain?

Just such general problems I am having and would love any and all feedback...

    Thank you!

"My brush I use to clean my teeth."

I believe the 'I' would be UN-stressed, actually. my BRUSH i USE to CLEAN my TEETH. It sounds moch more normal than: MY brush I use TO clean MY teeth.

Basically, there's a natrual beat and rhythm to the way words are put together. Try to quite literally put your sentences to a steady beat, if that helps.

    It's all about rhythm.
Some people can find it, some people can't.

That's pretty much all I have to say.

It's best to consult a poetry website or an english teacher,

it's better explained vocally rather than through writing.

    So consult an english teacher.
