School Rules

Tell me some of the weirdest, dumbest, funniest, most pointless school rules you can think of that apply to your school or a school that you know of. I'm tired of some of them too! I think they should be enforced more or completely gotten rid of. Not all of them just some of them. I'm talking a bit about dress code rules but feel free to type about any rules.

Shirts that expose undergarments are prohibited (excuse me boxers are always showing and I see all of the girls bra straps)

Biker shorts or cut-off jean shorts (Does it really matter? They're shorts! I've seen people wear them like this and they NEVER get in trouble!)

Black clothing expressive of a group (umm...Goths? Yeah no one is going to follow a rule that say's you're not allowed to wear black)

Wrist bands are not allowed and yet people wear them all of the time. They're just like watches without the watch part. I don't see the harm in wearing a band around your wrist.

We're not allowed to wear PJs which I agree with but I see girls wear them at school. They’re usually caught though.

Sagging pants aren't allowed but of course I see them all of time. It's not attractive just wear a belt or buy something that fits you.

Recently one of our dumb rules was gotten rid of. It had to do with holey clothes. It makes sense if the holes are above the finger tips when arms are resting flat against your sides (talking about pants) but everyone thought it was stupid if it was below the tips. People wear shorts what about that, huh? That shows skin.

I do not approve of cheerleaders being allowed to wear those skimpy things and then everyone else not allowed to (I wouldn't want to wear skimpy things I'm just saying it's a dumb rule.) Oh and my friend Jeana got in trouble for wearing stretch pants under a skimpy skirt. There are pants underneath it doesn’t matter!

Colored make-up on face, except school colors for special events. Excuse me? That's never been enforced.

We're not allowed to show cleavage but I see girls boobs all of the time!

Chains can make since because some idiots like to mess around and hit people with them. Thanks to them they're banned! It's not really followed though so it doesn’t really matter if people wear them.

Sex related things on shirts. I see the playboy symbol everywhere on purses and shirts.

No studs or sharp objects. Hey those gothic spiky wrist bands are worn all of the time. They look awesome and aren't hurting anyone so far.

Now schools always have issues with the girls wearing skimpy things so it's the same here. Shorts too short, or skirts too short. Either way sometimes it's followed and sometimes it's not.

At my school they try to enforce it the first couple weeks of school, but just like any other school year they'll get tired of having to tell everyone the rules and they'll give up. but the main thing is a lot of rules are written down and no one follows them. and i totally agree with you on the guys sagging the pants. SO not attractice. MY opinion is that its stupid.

Im guessing school just recently started for you?

Yeah it just started. I'm a junior now. :) It seems to be ending for many of the people on this site. Oh and another stupid rule. Now it makes sense about MP3s and stuff not being allowed and blah blah blah but we're still allowed to bring them as long as we don't use them in class. That makes sense I agree with that unless the teacher permits it. But in the cafeteria? Come on! Last year there were people downloading stuff on their phone in there and it was playing out loud and then at another table an MP3 was just sitting out not turned on and it was taken away! Nothing was done about the cell phone abusers! Nothing! I do hate those kids that leave their cell on and then it rings. Everyone does it. Just turn it off alright! You know the rules don't make up excuses. Most people just like to talk to their friends and then they have the excuse of "Emergencies!" Come on you little blonde beach prep. No one is going to take you seriously in that mini skirt and laughing smile. Most people don’t have a true reason so they just play the victim card and say they need it.

School starts tomorrow for me. I go in Year 11.

I go a private school so I guess a stupid rule that we have is that we can't die our hair or get highlights that are a colour that doesn't look original(purple for example) and guys can't have long hair or braids.

We can't wear makeup or jewerly.

We wear uniform so we have to have shirts stucked in, shoes clean, top buttons have to be done up if your tie is on. In summer uniform we get to take our ties off once the bell rings. But in winter uniform you have to have your tie on all the time.

No water bottles in school or out of the cafe area... we must have are student idea on us at all times (this is highschool) no chains because it can be used to kill someone, nothing that shows bra straps and they are inforcing that but you can still walk down the hall and see about 20 guys a$$ out of there shorts.. no crosses or anything that shows realgion nothing that says anything about sex but yet we still are handed condoms in health classes... and told to get put on birtcontrol... i just don't understand my school oh oh oh and the female shorts must be past your finger tips yet i see girls wearing shorts that have there buts hanging out of the back... lucky i feel more comfy in male shorts then females other wise i wouldn't be able to wear shorts because all the shorts you buy have words on the but or are just way to short and every friday you must wear school colors blue and silver or you can't leave the cafe area... which sucks becuase your carmed in there with like 150 other people so its hot because we don't have an a/c ... also we are not allowed to hug or hold hands in or on school ground yet we still see people holding hands just they stopped with the making out in the hall way finally

At my college, you would get a fine for being at a party... off-campus... where someone underage drank... even if it wasn't you... and you were 21. The fine for this offense is greater than the fine given if you were to sexually assault someone.

    Mmmmhm.

Were not allowed holding hands. I understand no harsh PDA but whats the harm in just holding hands?

My highschool had all of the rules listed...at least of the few I read, but um.

I take offense to this thread's title. School definitely does not rule.

At my high school there was a no touching policy. You weren't allowed to hug, shake hands, touch when seated etc. It was ridiculous. Needless to say I spent a lot of time in detention.

At our school - girls weren't allowed to wear their fringes past their eyes, otherwise it had to be pinned back. If your hair was touching your collar (if you were a girl) you had to put it back in a ponytail or bun or braid. If you were a guy your hair wasn't allowed to be shaved or past your collar in length. You weren't allowed facial hair. Your socks had to be pulled up, your tie had to be pushed right up to your neck. Buttons all done up. Shirts tucked in. Skirts had to be below the knee. And all these rules applied while you wore your uniform - no matter if you were at school or in the shops after school with your mum! No colouring your hair. One ear piercing if you were a girl (no more). No jewellery. Nails a practical length and no nail polish on them. No makeup.

I hated the rules, but I loved thinking of ways to get around them! :)

Gosh these are some tough schools! Now I know that mine are at times pretty stupid but the schools you guys go to are so bad!

The reasoning behind the "no hats" rule at my school is that a couple years ago somebody beat up our janitor, and nobody could recognize the guy on the security cameras because he was wearing a hat. I suppose it makes sense.

This isn't really a rule, but I find it so funny. Headphones, mp3 players, iPods, etc., are all banned from the classroom. But now they make those binders with built-in speakers, for you to hook your listening device into. What a useless invention, I'm sure they will be banned from school-property in no time.

I remember in grade 7 and 8, we were not allowed to wear necklaces unless they were choker necklaces or really short. The guidance counselour was afraid that we would get it caught on a doorknob, yank on it without using our hands, and strangle ourselves to death. I'm not kidding. Can you say 'paranoid'?

White shirt, tucked in, navy pants, belt at all times. Black or brown leather shoes, or solid black sneakers. If they're not all black sneakers, you wreck them with a sharpie. No phones at all, no electronics. No gum, no standing at your friend's locker in the morning before homeroom(haha the creepy principal yelled at me today for that!), no getting out of your seat in lunch, do your homework or come in for a satuday 4 hour detention... and you can push someone and say you're playing if you're favored, and nothing happens, but if the teachers don't like you and you say you're playing, they won't believe you. And nothing inappropriate at dances or dress down days. Yep that's it! :D

Oh and no hoop earrings, because someone's hand will surely get stuck in it and rip your earlobe off during gym time. What a fun way to end the day! :)

One of my teachers last year.. told us if we sneezed or coughed in class, we would get detention. I thought she was kidding at first, as did everyone else.. so my friend faked a sneeze, and he got afterschool detention. That was a sad day.

  • TrueLovesVictim

^ that is the most ridiculous (i hope i spelt that right) rule i have ever heard of. you can't help it if you sneeze or cough. especially if your sick. =/

I remember erasers being banned in second grade. It was because the teacher was encouraging us to just cross out our mistakes instead of trying to erase them. Like a 7 year old would understand that?

    First off,
    BWAAHAHHAHAHAHA WHAAAAT?
    these rules are hilarious!
hmm. my school is fairly lenient, mainly because they have no choice.
i thought this rule was funny- you cant have those old-school headphones just chillin around your neck, not even playing. even if theyre not plugged in!!!
oh, and this one teacher flipped out on me because i was reviewing pictures on my camera with my friends, and she thought i had recorded her bugging out on us earlier in class and was gonna put it on the internet. i almost died laughing.

Mo i have the exact same rules at my school at the moment. including black school shoes must be lace up not buttoned or straps and no heal. only a navy blue ribbon or black ribbon and plain bobby pins. no knee high tights or stockings. blazers worn whenever you are travelling to or from school and whilst you are at the shops etc. no coke only diet coke. absolutly NO makeup. proper school bag with no graffiti on it.

but the funnier rules that have been created are:

*no getting changed into sports uniform in the corridors

*make sure you close your legs when you sit at your desk due to the fact that we have male teachers teaching

    *no band-aids on your face

*We are now allowed to wear one colourful wrist band that say's "who is your neighbour" that can be handed out vire the office

    *No scaring the college turtle

    *Hair must not stick out

    lmao

    We don't have any funny/strange rules, actually we're allowed to do almost anything at school. The only thing that are prohibited are;
    - violence (oh really ...)
    - bullying
    - wearing hats or sunglasses during class
    - have your mobile phones on during class
    - eat during class

There are no special rules against clothing, you can wear whatever you like.

  • Give me wings to fly from HELL

I don't know what the school rules for clothing are at my school...I don't follow them anyway...

  • Tammie

Well at my school we wear a uniform..
& the shoes we have to wear are black leather ones.. then my school got pissed off and decided that if you wear flat like ballet sort of shoes, which look decent anyway, they will send you home.
So instead of letting you stay and actually learn, which is why you are there in the first place, they will send you home because you are wearing the wrong shoes. Very stupid in mine, as well as everyone else's eyes.

Also.. when we do our school chocolate fundraiser drive thing.. if we don't pay the money back for the chocolate after it's due for a while.. we get sent home.

For some reason they think this will make the kids want to pay it back.. somehow I think it's the complete opposite.

Also.. if the boys come to school unshaven, they charge you 50cents to use a razor and shave it all off. And they always come out looking like they've tried to use a blunt knife, because the razors are so crap.

    Ughh stupid school.

  • isabel

They wanted to set up some of the rules discussed here in my school (uniform for example)...

    but we didn't let them...

    muahahaha (*evil laugh*)

    LMFAO. wow.

We have to carry around planners everywhere we go, update them on assignments frequently, and use them as hall passes. No "agenda", no freedom.

Also, If we share lockers... We are suspended for three days.

We may not have hole in our clothes above out calf. Not even the knees anymore.

We have student ID's to buy lunch; If you don't remember your ID.. Your ass is starving.

  • Teria

We have numbers we have to remember, if we don't remember them there's no lunch, no computer access, no bathroom brakes, and you can't sign in when you're late for school. so you're apparently absent for the day. i wish i would have known that. i would have just went home last monday. lol.

we have the whole razor rule. the whole planner rule, as well. inside our planner we HAVE to have our number though, or else you're screwed. if you lose the front page of it, many people do, then you're screwed as well, unless you steal someone elses planner who wrote it in pencil.
    lol.

and, all clothes must be past your fingertips, excluding shirts you can't show anything at all. they are strict on that stuff. [[thedresscodeandsuch]]

no drinks are permitted in the school UNLESS you buy them at the school.e ven in the machines, there's special 'marks' that we are unaware of.. so they know.

and, you can't tip your chairs back, if you do it's literally 50 push ups. no lie.
if you refuse you get four ISS's.
    ..Seriously. Four?

I hate this school's rules. they're quite useless, and too strict.

yet, the teachers get high with the students and sell drugs to them, as well as teaching us many new cusswords, that we don't already know.

    it's kind of gay.

  • Alex Marlatt

^ Wow. I hate your school. I do like the push up idea though. We need to do push ups here instead of D-hall.

Here rules aren't as bad. They've loosened up a lot on most rules. I've worn my wallet chain (which I was initially doing as a 'screw your idiot rule' thing but they didn't care... so now I wear it because I hate pickpockets) every day this year. They didn't allow that before (I got four days of ISS for that last year). We're allowed to mess around with our phones if they're silent and we're discreet about them. I've been tardy fifty something times so far and I haven't gotten so much as one written down yet (we're only 'allowed' seven tardies per semester). I think this new principal is a push over. I have no respect for her.

She is a bit strict about one rule, everyone's least favorite. PDA. I had my arms around my girl and she said it was to close. Weird. I'll sit in the parking lot and make out for fourty minutes and I still haven't gotten in trouble. She always gives verbal warnings only. Hahaha. I love this year so much.

The rule about no touching is way out there because kids can't do anything in school anyways because there are always teachers around.

Our school doesn't have alot but
No shoulders showing. Ummm exuse me my friends wore a tube top and a zipper hoody over it with the zipper open so her shoulders weren't showing and that is alowwed. Or maybe its not thaty dont enforce the rules anyway.

We can eat in only one class out of the day, and I just ahppen to have that class right after lunch. Sorta defeats the purpose.
And we use our cellphones pretty much all day, and no one catches us.
And in technology class, we can pretty much do five minutes worth of work and mess around the rest of class, use our ipods and cell phones, run around gluing each other with the teacher's hot glue guns, etc. Some kid's hand actually got stuck on a table last year and had some trouble prying it off... hysterical.

My school also says that you can't have unnatural hair colors. So my friend goes and gets frost tips, and they tell him no. I have the whole bottom layer of my hair dyed black, and no one says anything. I don't get that school sometimes...
