Weekly Contest Problems

How can a poem with 4 comments and 3 votes not be considered as a weekly contest winner? I saw the ones that came out this week and they had like 25 coments ans 8 or more votes. My question is how do they consider whose poem is the best when so many come are posted each day? Can anyone explain that to me. I have any poems with no votes/coments and to me that hurts my and many other chances of making the weekly contest.

Seriously, I do Not Know Too, And I do Not Know How They do To Choose Poems And Stuff by All The Poems That Comes on Everydays ..

First of all this is the wrong forum.. this should be and will be moved to the members forum.

Secondly, the members on this site choose who the weekly poet is... they do it by voting; not by ratings or comments.

Many times a poem is voted for weekly without the writer even knowing.

Bob don't you think calling someones work "juvenile at best" is a little harsh?

I certainly do. I don't think you are qualified to say whose work is good enough to win the compititions in here given that the level of skill displayed in previous winners has varied greatly.

I read through the winners this week and I don't see anything special that suggests they have studied poetry or practiced for years, as you seem to be suggesting.

Bob may certainly be qualified... but I'm guess there's a reason why he's not the only one to decide the winner.

Bob, your analysis of the thread starter's works may be true, I haven't read them, but I don't really see why it needed to be said in this thread. Don't you think you'd have the ability to better positively influence a new writer by speaking to them directly (still honestly), but in a way that avoided public humiliation?

I'm fine with you standing by your opinion. But I didn't see anyone else "attacking" the thread starter, either, so that's what I commented on. (Or maybe it's because you're a mod, and I have authority issues? Take your pick ; ) )

My own poems are juvenile as well, and I'd welcome an honest opinion like yours, if I asked for it. But he didn't, which is why I wonder why you felt the need to display yours here- addressing an issue that the starter didn't raise. Of course, you're completely entitled to your free speech... I just wonder if you're trying to prove something.

His question was a technical misunderstanding, not a query about his worth.

But, eh. I want to go read now. Night, Bobby.

I can give my opinion on this, but it would just be fuel for the fire, so I will keep my gob shut.

Babies, be smart like me. Haha.

Lets not get dramatic here. We are all adults. I should be able to challenge anyone on their opinions, Mod or not without it turning into a riot. I wasn't rude to Bob and my intention was to defend someone else so lets all calm down.

The issue of the compitition is a tricky one. Firstly we don't have a system in place that is fair to select the candidates for judging. I am not sure how we would make such a system, because counting up votes or comments or number of times a is poem is viewed is no reflection on it's merit or quality.

A possible system could be that once every two months you have the chance to put one of your poems forward for consideration for the weekly website compititions, and only once every two months [at any time within that space obviously] . That way people would put forward what they considered to be their best work and they would have to be sure and patient about submitting. Of course we have so many members that this would could mean hundreds of applications potentially for any given selection date....but I think it's a decent idea.
