Apathetic humanity

I live on the mississippi river, and there is a huge bridge that spans the length of it, the guard rails are approximately 4 feet tall, i walked 1/2 way across, i leaned against the edge staring down at the murky, digusting water flowing below, and then decided to sit down and watch it flow by, during the approximate 2 hours i spent there at least 20 walkers/joggers pasted by me, and not one solitary soul bothered to ask me if i as ok, much less even look at me, the question i have i guess, is, what is happening to humanity today?, doesn't any one give a damn about anyones well being anymore?

Bob's right. also many people are often scared to ask if someone is ok. with the media constantly spreading propaganda people are too easily influenced that the world is full of evil people that will hurt you. they might also be scared of the answer or what to do if the answer given is something that are not familar with. using the example bob gave of opening a door up for a woman used to be seen as the gentlemanly thing to do. now there are so many opinions on it. some women find it offensive (most likely feminists) and thus many people don't know how to react in situations anymore.

anyway you may call it selfishness, ignorance, intolerance whatever. but the thing to remember is that just because in that two hours you were not stopped by anyone it does not mean you never will be. there are still many people in the world who are caring enough to...care. so thank god for that

It's true that there are a lot of uncaring individuals in today's society, but there are also some redeeming ones.

i was close to tears at an airport once, i had a 12 hour layover after a 36hour flight, and no where to rest and no money for food, and a passing lady stoped and asked if i was ok, and sat down with me and talked to me. a complete stranger let my cry on her shoulder.

in contrast, on christmas eve, i tried to catch a but, and was 30c short of bus fare, the driver wouldn't let me on the bus! on CHRISTMAS EVE!!!

you have to take the good with the bad, and appreciate kindness when you find it.

think about it! when was the last time you did anything for anyone else (who is not a friend!?)

Perhaps you looked too peaceful to bother..no one wanted to disrupt you! don't look at things so negatively, maybe those that passed you were being respectful of your "meditation"

Im truly not trying to sound OVER DRAMATIC...
but meditating about throwing yourself over a bridge?...and yes i do dwell on the negatives, that's why i was up there to begin with i suppose...

Were you standing on top of the bridge, poised to jump? because if you were just sitting there, people probably were thinking "oh crazy kid/person just standing there's, gonna get themselves killed" or they wanted to leave you alone.

and dont jump off a bridge...because theres a distinct possibility you will live and then you'll have a world of physical problems. if i was going to offer, i'd say cyanide, but its pretty hard to find and going to be time-consuming...so you're better off just dealing with your pain and stuff like the rest of humanity.

oh and did it ever occur to you that maybe the rest of humanity has problems? have YOU ever asked someone getting a couple bottles of aspirin in the store if they're going to attempt suicide? that could end badly.

If I ever see someone alone like that, I'll stop from now on. Even if they say they want to be alone, in deeper truth, they want someone to care.

^^that's sort of a generalization but okay.
