Is there a certain structure to writing poetry...

Is there a certain style and structure that needs to be followed when writing poetry? I write how I deem comfortable and from the soul. It’s different, which is what I thought expressing yourself was suppose to be about. Grant it, I’ll be posting the more basic style poems but, I wanted to see if there’s another form out there.
