Greatest Contest in a Long Long while, ROUND 1

  • swill
    17 years ago

    Alrightey!

    So this is one of the largest things happening out here in September (and might follow through to another month)

    This is going to be a five round contest.

    ``````````````````````````````````
    This is how the first round will be executed:
    -- I want all participating poets to submit in ONE poem, their own work.
    -- Plagiarism will be reported to unkind moderators, who will suspend all of your twenty seven accounts
    -- This poem can be about anything under the sun, any form, any genre. For your own sake and mine, TRY to be unique.
    -- This poem MUST be one of your last seven poems. You are allowed to choose the best one out of them and submit. Please make sure that your work is already submitted on the site, and provide a link at the bottom of your poem, that leads to it.
    -- This round will be open until the 22nd of September, which is a Saturday.
    -- I will solicit for one (or two) judge(s) to select poems. A brief critique may be given by judges, if they don't mind doing so. Also, I just MIGHT be one of the judges in case we're running short.
    -- Out of all the poems submitted, seven winners will be selected.
    -- Please ensure that if you are entering this contest, you WILL follow it up in the future. I don't want this to be deserted.
    -- Any queries regarding the rules may be PMed to me.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    So that was the first round. After the umpteen entries submitted, seven poets will be shortlisted.

    Round two- Slightly newer rules, we'll do that when we come to it, and FIVE (of the seven chosen earlier) will be shortlisted.

    Round three- FOUR out of the five chosen, will be shortlisted. One will be eliminated.

    Round four- One more will be eliminated, THREE will remain.

    Round five- One winner out of the three will be chosen. This might be a head to head thing.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    REQUEST: All those who are interested in judging the first round, please contact me via PM.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Thank you for reading all that. If you've made your way through ALL that, you have patience, AND, you're ready. Get to submitting, guys! Choppy Chop!

    I declare the first round................OPEN! :D

    Moon tears-by DarkSpirit

    Metal shine of red bones,
    the rhythm of the night is judged;
    underworld shivered,
    and golden screams were penalties.

    Bloody killer for a day, the wolf howled,
    defined by cruel rules of survival,
    and in the dark, he was just plaintive dreamer,
    crucifying the stars with contempt.

    The moon incapably from his white throne
    looks on the catastrophe, fall of the darkness,
    whispers shares with his dead lover- silence;
    his dungeon he already have seen.

    Lies fade against the fear of the truth,
    hope gives illusive wings
    and the chants of the ancient are only protection
    to shaky columns of inspiration.

    Trapped he was in broken dreams,
    blood-thirsty and alone,
    he have seen his way in heavens,
    but instead the wings, he had claws.

    Moon's tears filled the glass,
    he drank them with pleasure,
    merged with liquid fantasy
    that distilled, scouring away rules of grayness.

    We'll Never Know (You and Me) [Lyrics]

    Verse 1:
    You tied me up with a string, just to keep me holding on,
    You spun such lies and sugar-coated life, but I knew all along.
    I played your game, but I held the ace, and look at who has won -
    So continue to think you have the royal flush, I'll be having the fun.
    The web of lies you decided to spin are oh, so intricate,
    And I don't think you'll ever come clean; I don't think you'll ever admit.
    Give up, you lose, pack up and go home -
    'Cause if I must be lonely, I'd much rather be alone.
    You thought that Id' be different, but how right, you did not know;
    I hid my heart up my sleave, where no one dared to go.

    Chorus:
    We'll never know what we could've been -
    Now I've learned how, how not to give in.
    You'll never show someone all you can be.
    I guess we'll never know about, you and me.

    Verse 2:
    Dangling, I spun, but I did it just for fun -
    You didn't know all along that I was already done.
    No more holding onto hopes and to empty dreams,
    Because my life is so much more than it seems.
    Cliches are just that; broken hearts aren't for me -
    I can do better and be all I can be.
    Someone will love me for just who I am;
    Someone will care and they will understand.
    But for now, I'll leave you with just one thought:
    Don't let me be the one that you somehow forgot.

    Chorus:
    We'll never know what we could've been -
    Now I've learned how, how not to give in.
    You'll never show someone all you can be.
    I guess we'll never know about, you and me.

    Bridge:
    Broken-down hearts in need of something more -
    Gradually learning it's too much to just ignore.

    Chorus:
    We'll never know what we could've been -
    Now I've learned how, how not to give in.
    You'll never show someone all you can be.
    I guess we'll never know about, you and me.

    We'll never know what we could've been -
    Now I've learned how, how not to give in.
    You'll never show someone all you can be.
    I guess we'll never know about, you and me.

    Xx Sex, Lies And Betrayal xX

    Safe in the corner in the midst of the night
    Sex, lies and betrayal have reached a new height
    Reflections of bittersweet passion and lust
    The lure of the forbidden fruit was too much

    They came in together, a flurry of heat
    Trapped in an embrace from their lips to their feet
    Abandoning all thoughts of whats right and whats wrong
    She'd wanted to have his best friend for so long

    She'd tell me how much she yearned for his kiss
    Confide all her worries and every last wish
    Happily married for the past seven years
    I'd seen all the laughter, the love and the tears

    Yet now all I see is a relationship slurred
    In the marital bed where this poison occurred
    Writhing and screaming someone else's name
    Tomorrow she'll suffer noxious guilt and shame

    I never thought she would cheat on her man
    With his best friend just to show that she can
    Sex, lies and betrayal have took place in the dark
    She'll look in me tomorrow with a new broken heart

    Hey Somber Esprit...I guess you can submit, since you posted one today itself :) The point in keeping it as one from the last seven was that I wanted a recent favorite, which would be a gauge of recent ability..

    Soul gazer

    by NyellMoonlight

    Azure shadows filled the head,
    on the moon's top, we danced,
    smiling with the shiniest stars
    in the orbits of this liquid world.

    Guarding some unsaid thoughts
    lyrical motions locked inside,
    melody of the silver bells cringed
    in front of our alluring masks.

    Whole picture's framed with waves,
    ebbs and tides of the entwined auras,
    beckoning a few lost pieces colored
    in whole spectrum of dream's hues.

    Patchwork moments tainted souls,
    complex yet fragile, cosmically defined;
    I see all that as I gaze into your eyes,
    the reality's not enough, so blank and gray.

    Ah! GREAT!!! thanks dhaval! in that case, here it is.
    --------------------------------------------------

    ~Demons of Dispair~

    The scars of cold betrayal,
    Cut deep into my heart.
    The flames of past injustices,
    Consume my wounded soul.
    The armies of mortality,
    Shackle us miles apart.
    With worriers of loneliness,
    Despair their only goal.

    The jagged blade of certainty,
    And fiendish hellhounds bark,
    The tortured face of one love lost,
    Reminds me I'm alone,
    I wait in vain to flee this earth,
    Embrace the coming dark,
    Memories of those I've left behind,
    Send chills through every bone.

    The anguished demons of despair,
    Ignore my feeble plight,
    I take my blade, slash long and deep
    Wrists crying tears of red,
    As twilight comes to claim my soul
    I don't put up a fight.
    I'll fly unfettered from this realm,
    Pain ceases, now I'm dead.

    Woot this sounds kinda interesting. Anyways, heres mine.

    Stars

    Shining like the moon,
    Surrounded by nothingness,
    Silently waiting for tomorrows,
    Silhouetted lies to unveil,

    Threatened by the worlds uncertainty,
    They retreat into their dark corner,
    Telling each other the day will brighten soon;
    Their troubles will be gone,

    Another day goes by,
    Another star shoots past,
    Annihilating their chance of hope,
    Absent mindedly fading away,

    Reminiscing of better times,
    Revealing their inner weakness,
    Reminding me of you, I,
    Realize why I even care,

    Something about them,
    Sparked in my mind,
    Simple thoughts run through my head,
    Someday you will be my shooting star

    Impressionism

    I see you
    Smiling at me from across the room
    I remember those lips

    So soft, so sweet
    So twisted and mean
    The photograph doesn't capture that

    But I remember
    Every moment
    Every word
    Trapped in my mind

    The tender and the bitter
    Two sides to a coin
    Oh but the human spirit
    Made of so much more

    A complicated mass
    Blood, bone, skin
    Mind, heart, emotion
    Chaos and perfection all at once

    We are life and death
    A single picture
    But a whisper
    Revealing only what we wish

    Untitled (monody)
    by Ashleigh Skye

    "I remember when I first met you,
    your pale skin glistening in the moonlight,
    those dark eyes,
    oh,
    how they pierced my soul.
    You taught me the purest form of love,
    showed me it has no limits,
    and our first kiss,
    magical is not powerful enough to describe it.
    You were my best friend,
    and although we had our differences,
    I never wanted you to fall.
    You helped me see so much
    showed me the power of the outcasts,
    the strength of the fallen,
    and when we were together,
    I felt as if I could achieve anything.
    You believed in me,
    and even when our worlds pulled us in different directions,
    and your thirst for blood consumed you,
    you always managed to stay with me.
    As I sit here at your grave site,
    I wonder,
    are you really gone for good,
    or are you simply sleeping waiting for the perfect moment,
    to open your eyes and return to me.
    But that's when I see the wooden stake,
    thrust deep in your chest,
    and the long since dried garlic around your neck,
    and it slowly starts to sink in,
    your gone.
    Oh,
    how I wish it wasn't true,
    how I wish that you were still with me,
    caring for me,
    like only you know how to do.
    Taking me places,
    I never would have seen,
    and,
    teaching me,
    the power of the unexplained.
    Wishing never solved anything though,
    and I know that nothing I do will change that."

    And as the young woman,
    arose from the gravestone,
    she left behind a vile of a sticky red substance,
    closed with a cork,
    bottled up forever,
    just like her love for the man,
    who stood up for the many things that mattered.
    And as she walked away,
    the moon,
    turned from white to red.

    And I Shall Love You, Until I Love No More {Licentia Rhyme}

    Snow, charming to her touch, burns unlike before,
    And I shall love you, until I love no more."
    Sweet caress by moonlights hand; souls will unite,
    Whispers softly, "Love at hand is death at sight."
    A soothing breeze glows deathly; "Admit defeat;"
    Dash to him; "Without you, I am incomplete."
    Master of hearts, dare you breathe a timely death,
    "You live too long; mangled veins protest this breath."
    Echoes build, tombed cry; "...until I love no more..."
    Burned hands touch the snow; souls of love yet ignore.
    Snow, charming to her touch, burns unlike before,
    "And I shall love you, until I love no more."

    Sweet caress by moonlights hand; souls will unite,
    Whispers softly, "Love at hand is death at sight,"
    Nevermore shall igniting bonds bring to touch;
    Dangerous ignorance pass; untimely, oh such!
    "Succumb! Render mercy, faithless that you be;
    In moment's time, lost admist, but never free."
    Woes to woes; love is brutal amongst the cold,
    Test precise; taste gracious boundaries nothing holds.
    Echoes build; whisper in your ear, "...never free..."
    Burned hands cool snow; "You have my heart, and the key."
    Snow, charming to her touch, burns unlike before,
    "And I shall love you, until I love no more."

    A soothing breeze glows deathly; "Admit defeat;"
    Dash to him; "Without you, I am incomplete."
    Souls mend their hearts; they've not forgotten the dark,
    Rendered black, hearts sing pity upon the mark.
    "We have lived not in vain, but for love and word,"
    Crashing templates for the latter that occurred.
    Grasp failing hands that seem lost in time, a shame;
    "This is death and love, don't you see! Not a game!"
    Echoes build; "Grim arrives soon, my dears, be still,"
    "We will not succumb!" Does gasp a greater chill.
    Snow, charming to her touch, burns unlike before,
    "And I shall love you, until I love no more."

    Hawksong

    Inspired by the book "Hawksong," by Amelia Atwater Rhodes.

    Invoke the air's seductive melody --
    Listen to the beautiful, rising notes.
    A lullaby soothes her patchwork heart,
    The change begins to its sacred song.

    The exchange of human vulnerability
    For feathers of down and plumage
    Has become her escape from reality.
    Soft crunch of spine brings nonchalance,
    Change to hollow bone brings tranquility.
    Her grief and strife quickly forgotten --
    As she is cloaked with newfound freedom.

    The change ends to a wondrous hawksong --
    Spread powerful, golden brown wings,
    To feel the hidden glory of flight
    And the sweet release from humanity.

    I Hate Everything About You

    Three more bottles 'til the boys go down,
    Watch us turn your mouth into a frown.
    You drink away the lacy pain,
    It's hidden in your eyes, so vain.

    Dare to fly, but not willingly.
    My hatred boils, fulfillingly.
    Don't you fear that this might be true?
    I hate everything about you.

    The way you breathe, when you're so dense.
    Watch me build up this picket fence.
    We'll close the door and pray it works,
    We'll keep you out, you hateful jerk.

    Dare to fly, but not willingly.
    My hated boils, fulfillingly.
    Don't you fear that this might be true?
    I hate everything about you.

    Another knock on the wooden door:
    We're running on empty at close to four.
    The friendly demons inside my head,
    Kept me so safe in an empty bed.

    Dare to fly, but not willingly.
    My hated boils, fulfillingly.
    Don't you fear that this might be true?
    I hate everything about you.

    your words echo
    Across the sky
    On this endless night
    I'm prepared to fly

    You take my hand
    And spread your wings
    My guardian angel
    Among other things

    We float through the clouds
    And you silently whisper
    "don't be alarmed
    Because on this night
    You could never be harmed"

    Crystal Tears of Insanity
    by Twisted Heart

    Tears come ever so slowly
    sating my pain in their wake
    Upon this night they are falling
    my heart fully crushed from the break
    Dreams, tattered, tonight now crumble
    beneath the weight of the pain
    Ever so slowly they tumble
    inside of my soul once again.

    Hope has gone into hiding
    faith lost among tears left to cry
    My heart is a vessel residing
    among all the wreckage inside.
    Crashing upon all the thunder
    the ocean of tears come to flood
    Pulling my mind ever under
    voiding my life of laughter and love.

    A prison for all of the aching
    inside of my soul there to see
    Tarnished, bruised, and forsaking
    catch and hold tightly to my sanity.
    Ripping through vessels that tarry
    inside of my mind and my heart
    On wings of death they are carried
    shattered pieces of love torn apart.

    No place found among all the heartache
    no memories cling to the mind
    No warmth of a thought in the face
    of the love that has fallen behind
    Vacant and sated by teardrops
    inside of my heart they now churn
    Forever silent and faded
    memories that are tattered and burnt.

    Darkness upon my heart lingers
    now calmly caressing my mind
    The hands of the clock still ticking
    taking away all thoughts left inside.
    Slowly I find myself drifting
    among all the ashes I see
    Demons bound now they are shifting
    as I try to hold on to reality.

    No heart fills with light come the morning
    just emptiness floods in the soul
    A darkness has captured the dawning
    Leaving me broken and cold
    Now vacant eyes stare in the distance
    no longer do I feel the pain
    Forever subdued of resistance
    lost in the plague of insanity's claim

    Alone (I'm so lonely)
    by Dark Delirium

    Bloodless lips,
    whisper the rain.
    Betrayal leaves,
    a permanent stain.
    Written.
    Scarred.

    Empty eyes,
    watching midnight sky.
    Lifeless smiles,
    scream the goodbye.
    Abandoned.
    Left.

    Bind my mouth,
    with razor ribbons.
    Watch your back,
    I know your secrets.
    Divulged.
    Bared.

    Read my suicide,
    like how I taught you.
    I am a lie,
    but you are the truth.
    Tainted.
    Confused.

    You squeezed my throat so tight,
    breaking my flesh and heart and bone.
    Cry beside the moon.
    Alone.

    My Tears Shall Awaken You
    by Italian Stallion

    My tears shall awaken you,
    Upon this glimmering starlight night.
    Our journeys together have been wonderful,
    As you've showed me the way to love and care.

    Sitting here with you on such an excellent night,
    Pondering whether or not, my tears will show.
    Our love for one another, is so simply pure,
    These tears are a symbol of my feelings towards you.

    You make me happy, sometimes sad too,
    But through out our journeys we've mended as one.
    These tears that flow freely down my cheeks,
    Hope they awaken you from deep within.

    My feelings are true, but I'm sure you knew,
    My love for you will always be, till eternity.
    These tears I cry, are tears of happiness,
    For you, my love, light up my world.
