    Okay.
I think I know a wee bit of poetry.

I want to write songs. I know a little bit of guitar, and thus music and beats and rythm, but it is limited.

Where can I learn song writing?

As far as I know it is quite quite different from poetry...

I really want to learn how to write songs, and add music to them if it is possible.. Can someone help me?

Because poetry is meant to be read, songs are meant to be sung. You need a different sort of rhyme and rhythm. Too many metaphorical ideas in a poem would not be considered too many, it would be considered rich...in a song, something more spontaneous, it would be considered too many. The structure of a song is also different. The choruses, intro-pieces, end-pieces, music pieces in the middle, a more internal rhyme, and even a loose terminal rhyme....it's just different...

I don't know what kind of music...but definitely not hip-hop and rap...slow rock, alternative, you know, the slightly lyrical, softer, slower kind.

Poetry is very close to song writting, however; there are a few differences, which are minor and doesn't affect writting a song as much as you'd think.

Many songs are in the form of poetry, it's just sang instead of reading it. I've written a few songs here and there, it's the same as writting a formed poem, it has restrictions...pay attention to the rhyme and rhythm of the song you're writting. The flow is a big part of this as well.

No need to get too technical, unless you want to do it for a living. Just let your heart do the singing, and I'm sure it will turn out to be great.

    Peace, Joe

The thing is I WANT to get technical...that's what I want help with..I choose to be thorough with the art, and learn more about it, not just write for the sake of release, etc.

Study lyrics from your favorite songs....that might help.
lyrics aren't any different from poems, trust me I know (display name.)

to write a song all you have to do is make a tune in your head and write words to it, put it down on paper and bang; you gots yourself a song.

When you are able to write poetry you are practically writing a song, I mean a poem can flow and a song also does the same. I only started recently writing songs of my own but I just used what I'd learned through my poems.

You don't HAVE to play an instrument, I mean I write my stuff record it on tape or CD so I remember the flow when I've done the lyrics, so it is possible.

This is a site that I looked up for you, it has some pretty useful tips on it so do have a look and let me know how you get on.

If you need a friend to look over some lyrics for you, just give me a bell.

    Take care.
