Are we really equal?

I saw a thread a minute ago talking about God, the title alone aroused my suspicion. i think it's amazing how it's alright to attack people who believe in God because of evolution and philosophy, but when someone attacks the latter everyone gets indignant saying they have rights to think what they want.

now i'd like to know whether we're all equal or whether we have settled down into a pit of hypocrissy? one person should have the same rights as everyone else right?

or is it the fact that to believe in God is hoaky and an abomination in these rationalistic days?

I think the moderators point is also applicable to life too, everyone has the right to express how they feel about any subject. So long as they do it respectfully and without a prejudice. I am basically a sceptic about everything until its proven, so i doubt and question everything including religion. Yet i wouldn't ever think of insulting someone for believing in a certain faith.

I think the belief in God is shared by many religions old and new. Do you call that concidence?

Science speculate whether the universe came to be by random or is it made by an intelligent design?

Belief in a creator force is common, but it cannot be proved,

Religion is merely a set of theories and ideas with it society is able to mold values and norms according to the set ideas/theories.

We live in a day now, where evolution, which was when first theorized was a bunch of baloney. But now it has been taken into account by the secular societies.

I think that we need to understand from the past and respect whatever the other person believes. God exists, in my opinion, I may be wrong!

I said this already in a different thread...

how come the non-believers on this site (well most of them) always take every chance they get to TRY THEIR BEST to rip our (christians) beliefs apart?

and we're always finding ourselves trying to defend it...
its never the other way around.

....does that say anything about the majority of atheists?

    You calling me stupid?

or better, are you calling Christians stupid?

  • PnQ Mod Account

I don't necessarily think the original poster was referring to this site. It's everywhere.

The only thing it is "politically correct" to attack is Christianity. But I don't really care, that just means everything is going exactly how it's supposed to.

  • the song writer

So am I to assume that most of the atheists I encounter are evil and malicious?

    ...I don't btw

  • PnQ Mod Account

I wish people could get away from labels altoghther.

Yes, some people may be evil and malicious... but their race, religion, heritage, sexual orientation, level of education, age, size, etc.. does not define that.

For the record, I am a Christian. But what I hate more than anyone saying that I shouldn't be or that I'm stupid for it is when my fellow-Christians say that stuff about people that believe differently.

  • silvershoes

I'm not saying that about the opposition, I was just saying that through my experiences (most of the time) thats the way I've been treated by the people who think differently....

'the belief in God is shared by many religions old and new. Do you call that concidence?'

^ All religions from the same general region and religions that branch off of each other.

If God was real would not the religions of the Native Americans (from North and South America) have also been monotheistic? Were the hundred of thousands of generations leading up to the savage destruction and enslavement of the indigenous population (and subsequent forced conversion) been damned to hell? Was there no Choctaw/Cherokee/Apache'/Mayan/Incan Jesus? If there had been they would be Christian nee?

Anyways back on topic: yes and no. Theoretically we're all equal. However BOTH sides attack each other at every corner. It's not just atheists and agnostics bashing Christianity but vice versa as well.

  • the song writer

That may be true but through my short seventeen year old life I have never seen or read a christian bash another religion, it always has been the Atheists condoning my religion and leaving the believers on the defense...

In the bible dear it states how us christians will not be popular with those that do not share our beliefs.

    Are we really equal?
No, we're not. Not one person is equal with the next. And, it's not because of God [[or whatever others believe created us]]. It's because of us, we've created a world where anyone who is different isn't equal to us. They're automatically 'weird' or 'retarded' or 'gay'.
And, so many people say that's not true, they treat everyone the same.. But, the truth is, whether you realize it or not, you don't. You treat certain people the same.
I believe that people try to treat everyone equally, but I don't think it will ever happen, because of the society we, ourselves have created.

'That may be true but through my short seventeen year old life I have never seen or read a christian bash another religion, it always has been the Atheists condoning my religion and leaving the believers on the defense...'

No offense to you but that is BS there. My entire life when other kids found out I didn't believe they would call me "f****** retarded" and then spend the rest of the year putting me down. One girl was really into me until she found out I was atheist. Coincidentally she decided to break it off with be because I 'drank too much'. Which was hypocritical and a lie. Last year a girl brought a free bible from her Church and said things like "Accept this as your life or you'll be damned forever. Alex, I am not kidding, you're pretty [dumb] if you do not do it." My mum does the same shit every chance she gets.

Excuse me if I seem overly critical of Christians at times. But very few people (who were Christian) have ever defended or accepted my religious views.

Christians in general complain about being 'looked down upon' but few ever admit that they (in general) are biased against other religions.

  • the song writer

    Wait what?
did you just tell me what I have/have not gone through?
dood, I honestly have not seen a christian condone antother's faith. from what i've seen I've never heard a christian say that an Atheist was evil or bad, wrong maybe but thats natural because of the difference of opinions.

who are you to tell me what I experience and not experience?
    you don't know me.

and i have been insulted about loving God, and I have never seen a christian insult or make a rude remark to someone because they were an atheist.

  • Alex Marlatt

I said it was BS that Christians (in general) have not mocked, ridiculed, or treated another religion unfairly. No where in there did I say you did or your experiances. Notice I said 'I' a lot. That usually indicates something about the speaker. Maybe you haven't seen a Christian do anything, maybe you don't look hard enough. Either way it still happens.

Many Christians are that way. But, I honestly think it has nothing to do with their religious views nor yours. I think it has to do with them excepting that there are other beliefs and views in the world.
.[[Though religion is a huge 'issue' when it comes to this kind of disrespect]]

Many, many people are like that and not just because of your beliefs but because of the way you live your life, or the way you talk and.. now-a-days even walk.
It's immature and ridiculous [sp]. I absolutely agree with Alex and the other poster on this.
Though, I'm a christian, I realize that there are other views and beliefs out there.
They didn't mean any offense to you dear, honestly.
I know exactly what they are talking about and meaning.

It happens to us, to them, and to everyone.
Many christians though, call themselves christians yet think that the way they are SUPPOSE to live their lives is the way others should live theirs. The truth being, they don't really live their lives quite that way.
They sit and judge others for their beliefs. It's one thing to tell someone that God is the way, it's another to push it and put them down for it.
I honestly believe many people don't realize that.
    Not just christians, either.

My parents and all my friends are christians and i'm the only one that is not...i personally think all the christain stuff is freaky and way hard to belive. and christians automatically think your bad if your gothic (like me) (emo, ect.) and if you listen to certain music ect. I mean, how can you PROVE there is a god?

  • the song writer

"and christians automatically think your bad if your gothic "

    ...are you serious?
    thats a stereotype.
my best friend is a goth, I love her to death, and I couldn't care less what she looks like and thinks.
another good friend of mine is goth and christian.

    stereotypes destroys respect.

It sure seems like alot can be judgemental...maybe its just the church we go to or somehting...I know a whole heap of Christian people who are great and all but i've known a good number who act like i have real problems. I'm not judging christains i just dont get any of it

  • the song writer

    Well you don't have to...

just don't get the impression that every christian/catholic thinks goths, emos and w/e are messed up in the head or possessed or something.

  • Teria

"christians automatically think your bad if your gothic (like me) (emo, ect.) and if you listen to certain music ect. I mean, how can you PROVE there is a god?"

First off, it's not just christians who are that way. It's a stereotype. Just as a song writer... I have a VERY VERY good friend named Heaven, who is completely gothic, she's amazing though. And, I love her to death. In no way, shape, or form do I judge her for her beliefs nor way of living.

Music? I'm christian, and I don't always listen to christian music. I mean, come on that's a bit harsh. It's one thing to say that 'christians' judge people for being goth, but music? That, I don't believe.
The whole goth thing, I do because .. everyone judges. Even christians. I do at times, I try hard not to. BUT, I do NOT judge because of how you dress or what you believe, and especially not for the music you listen to.

How can you prove there's a God?
I just know there is, I can't prove it, no one can prove it other than God himself. He has no need to though, he knows who he is. He knows what he's there for.
Do you need to prove yourself? I believe not, you know who you are and others close to you know who you are and most likely accept it.

Just as those close to God knows who he is, what he's about, and accept it completely.

It's your choice to accept it or not to accept it.

And, I must say that people who believe Christians are the only ones judging are extremely off track.
I dislike and get extremely frustrated when people say that kind of stuff.

I hate the God vs. No God vs. Many Gods or whatever discussion its just a bunch of crap. A bunch of people thinking they know all and blah blah blah. I am agnostic but grew up Catholic and even though I feel like my strict upbringing is partially to blame for my internal and external rebellion, I respect the religion. I may not respect everyone in it. But I respect people's beliefs. Just like I respect devil-worshippers. I certainly don't agree with their beliefs and in my opinion would rather associate myself with a Christian than with someone who honors Satan (although I'm not referring to Satanism, because Satanism is not the worship of Satan). ANYWAYS, I digress, my point is that many people are simply too judgmental. The only time I get aggravated with someone's belief is when they are forcibly pushing it on me or using ugly tactics to prove their point. I believe if everyone found the common thread in their beliefs, the world could find more use in religion.

Satanism is more practicing their power-hungry and over-sexed beliefs than worshiping Satan.

though worshiping Satan is still thrown into the mix.

  • Teria

The Queen Of Spades. I agree with your post.
I hate when people push things on me, and seeing others push it on other people.
    That, itself, is disrespectful.
So many people base their views on others just according to what others believe. Which I think is quite ridiculous .
I mean, seriously, come on. What's the point in it?
There's more than one choice in this world, and who's to say that what you believe is not what's wrong. Honestly, I believe that no one has complete proof of what they believe in. They only know within their hearts.

And, every heart is made differently, therefore creating different points and beliefs.
I, myself, a christian can't stand it when someone tries to make someone else a christian. That's not our job in this world. Yes, we're suppose to make as many people follow Christ as possible, but not that way. It's more about how we go about it, and what good we do on earth than MAKING someone become a christian.

I can't stand that kind of stuff.
