My family is racist

My family are against interracial marriages anf=d i was raised like that but i have fallen in love witha black guy who i love very much and he means the world to me and i am so happy whenever i am with him but my family hate me for it and my mom is threatening to turn me over to the state but i am not giving himup for them is this a good discission? im tired of racism no one is even a single race anymore so why worry about it!

You're 17, if the only issue they have is the colour of his skin, that is their problem, do what feels right to you.

Do what you think is right. Stick up for yourself and your man! let them know you don't feel the same why about this subject as they do. They can't turn you over to the state for that reason anyways.

Wait until you're 18, maybe let them meet him before then. If not before, then when you turn 18. I think they deserve to know him, at least. It would kind of be a second chance. If they fail, and you want to be with him... then be with him. But, not much worse can come out of it. Right?

You cannot help whom you fall in love with.. It's something that just happens. It's a shame that your family might not be able to see how great of a person he is, who you have chosen to be with. But in time it will get easier for them as well. They see how happy he makes you, and ussualy that's all parents want, is for their children to be happy.

You need to realise though they haven't neccaserily chosen to feel this way towards people who's color is different from theirs. It has to do with the way they were brought up.
Most of the people who dislike people with a different nationality or color have been tought to do so by their parents.. All of their life people have been telling them: "don't hang around with Nig**rs" (I don't use that word ;) and "hang around with those people you'll go to hell" or whatever.
It has to be difficult to ignore all that you have ever been tought because something happens to make them see that they aren't acctually as bad as they thought..

My advise to you is: Be patient with your mom and dad, keep on seing this guy.. Most likely they will end up liking him for the simple fact that he is making you happy.. It takes time.. It's hard but in the end, you love him, it's worth it.

Interracial marriages can be a succes, you just have to work harder because your convictions and beliefs are different. If you really love this boy, you should go for him and not let anything stop you, it's your life!!
