Dont Use Bottled Water!

    Bottled Water:
~uses enough oil a year to fuel 100,000 cars for a year (we're talking averages as far as the cars)
    ~uses significant landfill space
~is completely unnecesary - use a reusable bottle! (plastic type 1, please- we don't want brain cancer)
    ~is bad for kids teeth!
~polutes natural ecosystems when not disposed of properly!

Even recycling is better than not! 87% of water bottles are not recylcled, and all should be! So help the planet a little- its not hard! Any one have anything to add? What I don't get is why people still use bottled water! Any thoughts?

You know, back in the seventies before the drought ever happened NO ONE ever used water. look at us now. its a natural thing. yes i agree people should recycle more if they care anything about the earth.. but if they want bottled water then let them have it. their the ones paying for it.

  • Renee

Back in the 70's? like 1970's? Nobody ever used water?! HAHAHA..!

Whoever made this topic is just inspiring us to think about what we do everytime we drink out of a bottle of water. I commend them on their effort, although asking everyone to stop using bottled water is a far-fetched idea, it may get some people to reconsider the way they live their lives. So more power to ya!

  • Keath

Well I somehow agree with this topic. Why should we drink bottled water if we can get it tres simple, by just turning on the tap? Why would you spill a lot of money on "better" water and plastic if you could get it for "free"?

I don't care if you do it, but I think it's a waste of money and time. Really, bottling water ... The whole phenomenon sounds ridiculous in the first place. And if all the bottles were recycled it wouldn't really matter but now were polluting the environment with drinks. Water.

Btw, I never drink bottled water. Costs too much time. :")

Yeah bottled water is definitely bad for kids teeth - no flouride, etc. n it seems stupid to waste 1.8 million barrels of oil a year just to put water in a bottle so you can throw the bottle out

I like bottled water but i find it hard to believe when it has an expiry date on the side.
Water that is supposed to have run down the sides of mountains for centuries and then gets put in a bottle and go off?
    Yeah right

^ "Well first of all, for some of the people out there, their water-systems arent the cleanest, so some poeple drinking from the sink can get sick..."

I don't mean those folks. Most of them get water from wells. I'm talking about Americans, Europeans, the wealthy countries. They should know better.

What the heck are you talking about? I was making a joke about an expiry date on water. When did i mention people drinking from a sink?

I agree its a little obscure, but if someone dumped a barrel of oil on a beach or burned it in a smokestack people would be all over them. the water bottle industry burns tons of fossil fuel but does it in fiji/the arctic/anyplace that looks good on a bottle, so no one complains about what they're doing

I'll stop drinking bottled water the day they stop putting all kinds of crap into the tap water.

When i come from the countryside to the city and turn on a tap, I can smell and taste the chemicals....I never drink tap water unless it's boiled....

But the lassy is right about the plastic....it's not good for you, especially if the bottle has been left in the sun....better get a glass bottle of water and refill it at home with boiled water that has cooled down.

"Someone needs to lay off the peace-pipe... ooooh, water bottles are bad for us!! OMFG THEY ARE GOING TO KILL ARE GREAT GRAND CHILDREN!!! OMYGOD!!!!

... wtf, not trying to offend anyone, but this is quite possibly THE most rediculous thing i have ever heard. oh no, bottled water is bad for us!

    *cough* hippies *cough*"

Wow, could you have phrased that ANY more condescendingly? Um you don't have to be a hippie to care about the environment. You just have to have a heart. I know it seems absurd, but there are A LOT of things in this country that are messing up the world. For instance, obviously the United States has the most gas-guzzling enviornmently horrendous vehicles and if there was another U.S. in the world that used all the resources like we do, our world would virtually go to hell.

I think the water bottle things a little weird and I have no doubt that "liberal hippies" can tweak the truth a little bit to make a point, but we all know about the excessive tweaking governments and corporations do so that we buy into their earth-killing schemes.

Anyways, I probably won't stop drinking water from bottles but I try to do other things to help the environment because unlike some people I DO care about the generation coming after me because if the predecessors in this country hadn't cared about my generation, I wouldn't have the opportunities I do now.

LMAO, Water bottle isn't going to kill us (in the sense it will pull out a knife and stab us) but it harms the environment! Now, can anybody tell me what happens to the environment when it is completely polluted? Thats right, it jeopardize human existance, which in the ends f***s future generations.

Don't believe me? I couldn't careless, I just wish you'd get off your a** and pour a glass instead. It isn't that hard! Is it?!

But if you just CAN'T do that, PLEASE recycle!

I'll have you know, this thread did not change my opinion.
I drink from bottles of water everyday.
I find a water fountain more dangerous than a bottle.
    Just my personal opinion though.

If you dont like drinking fountains use an aluminum water bottle (lasts like 20 yrs, doesnt leach chemicals, etc) see mysigg.com. if you dont like tap water filter it.

  • Gem

Bottled fizzy drinks are more dangerous that water, at least water is healthy!

Speaking of which, ice mountain's "natural spring water" comes from the natural springs that feed lake michigan (at least if you buy it in the midwest - its probably from local sources other places too).
um, can you say leave some for the fishes?

I have like 3 bottels which i just fill up with water from my tank becoz i have a thing about drinking water from the tap and becoz it costs 2 much money 2 just buy a bottle of water every time u are thirsty. Also i dont live where any shops are lol. But honestly its great that im doing something for the environment but i mainly do it coz its easier.

I personally drink bottled warter because its cleaner and i dont like the funny taste of tap water. I drink probably 5 or 6 bottles of water a day, and my doctor seems to think that bottled water is also better for you then tap......hum, now i am not sure what to belive. But also some bottle water is just tap water put in bottles. so i guess it depends which water you like.

In general its bad for your teeth n doesnt have any benefits unless you're somewhere where the waters bad (which could be anywhere thats not in the US, or near like nyc or LA or somewhere with a ton of polution)

  • bianca

Um, no. sorry but i must dissagree, It does have amny benifits, like being able to take it places, like not spilling it, like drinking clean water with out a funny taste. There also many perfesional sports players who use it. You can jog/run with it. Erm there are also many types of drinks that you can make but adding a small packet to a bottle of water. And i personally think its only bad for your teeth if you are an idoit who hits your teeth with the lip of the bottle. I do agree people should recycle, but not that bottled water is bad.
