Comment/Praise Challenge - open to all members

Comment/Praise Challenge:

This challenge is two-fold.

Part 1 is for all members and is a challenge to leave worthwhile comments on poems.
Part 2 is for senior members and is a challenge to seek out worthwhile comments on poems and praise them.

You do not have to sign up for this challenge to comment poems. I would, however, like Senior Members to sign up to review the comments.

Instructions:

Comment Challenge:

I would like to see many members (including Senior Members and Mods) take the following guidelines and comment on at least 10 poems a week for a month. Save a link to the poem, and once a day or every other day, post the links to the poems you commented. They will then be reviewed by a senior member.

These do not have to be brand new comments. I will put a limit on their age, though... if you have left any comments that you think are praise worthy in the last month (since October 1), you make send a link to those.

If you have comments on your poems that you think are praiseworthy, feel free to list the poem and which members you want reviewed.

I know these guidelines say that "A good comment, worthy of earning praise points should do at least 1 of the following:"

For this challenge, though, I'd like us to do better than that and include at least two of those points. If you have no idea where to begin on well thought out meaningful comments, here is an outline I use:

1. What was your first impression of the poem? Did you like the theme?

2. Title - Was it eye-catching? Did it fit the poem? Do you have suggestions for something better?

3. Rhyme Scheme/rhythm - Tell what you thought about the rhyme scheme/flow of the poem.

4. Closing Comments: This is where you can say what you got from the poem, how it did or did not touch you or apply to you in some way. Politeness is the key. You don't have to like a poem to critique it and to say something positive about it.

Praising Challenge:

First of all, I'd like to clarify that praises are NOT seen by the author of the comment, they are only seen by the Mod Team. Praises should not be used to thank someone for a comment or to communicate with them in any way.

For this challenge only, I would like Senior Members to limit praising comments on their own poems to two a week. (or one praise on your poems to every 4 praises on other poems. So, if you do 15 praises, 3 of those can be on comments left on your poems)

Instructions:

-Check this thread for links that members have left for comments they've made. Using the Guidelines that are linked above, determine whether the comment is praiseworthy. If so, Praise it! (Remember, I'd like the comments to include at least 2 of the points for this challenge)
-Feel free to praise comments you find that are not listed here.

I'm in (that's what I do comment wise anyway)

I had enough enough high quality traffic to praise anyone as yet, but I'll definitely do so if a comment worthy of praise shows up.

While I am here, I'll boost VSAmbulance's profile by saying that all senior members should go check her out, she is very unique for her age.

Thanks guys! Three is great, but I'd love so many more senior members to say they will be actively looking for comments to praise.

For all those commenting on poems for this challenge, be sure to let us know where you are commenting. (Senior members and mods can participate in the commenting as well as the praising)

Whether or not you can "praise", if you see a praiseworthy comment, please let us know where it is!!!

That was a great comment, Pete. Exactly what we are looking for in a "praiseable" comment!

Way to go everyone! We've got some great commenting and great praising going on.

Most of the praising being done is by the mods and FTSMiles. (I'm sure there are others, I need to get lists from other mods in case they accepted praises and haven't posted the praiser yet)

One thing that is becoming blatantly apparent is that it appears to always be the same people that leave praise-worthy comments.

Ann-Marie, you have created quite the challenge here .. it's a toughie to find really good comments.
I've singled out 5 or 6 today. I found one of Illum's comments that I wanted to praise - but was unable as debbylyn had beat me to it.

Oops, my bad... I didn't realize that a comment could only be praised by one person.

Maybe that should be changed. I don't necessarily think the number should be indefinite...but maybe it could recieve 3-5 praises.

All your praises were great Pete. Except 3 of them were old. (I did accept them, though, since they were praiseworthy comments).

Update:

Currently, we have on record, 8 active praisers (since this challenge started) The number of praises from each range from 2-58

We have 66 different members whose comments have been praised since the challenge began. Most of them just have 1 or 2 comments praised.

Ann Marie....I think this is a great Challenge......I will look for noteworthy praises as I read. I just did my first one.

This has gotten off to such a great start and really increased the quality of comments that the official "Challenge" has been cancelled.

Senior members, PLEASE, continue praising quality comments on your poems and PLEASE continue keeping your eyes open on the poems of others for good well-thought out comments.

Just a reminder that the praise tool is not a method of communicating with the commenter. If you wish to thank them for the comment, please use the PM system.

Yes, you are a senior member. It should teel you that when you first login. You can also tell by looking at your awards. A senior member has either a silver Poetry or faves award (it's actually blue - but called silver)

And if you read the post just above yours, the oficial challenge is over... but we still want senior members to keep their eyes open for praiseworthy comments on their own poems and the poems of others.
