Ouch-- So Embarrassing.

    Did I spell "embarrassing" right??
Well, lol, here is my story:
I was straightening my hair and my friend Brittany was over. She's really playful so she was stepping on the wire for the straightener trying to annoy me. (congratz to her.) After like, 5 minutes I finally got her to stop being a dork and I went to straightening again, but she slammed her foot down on the cord and I dropped the straightener! My fast reaction was to grab the straightener... Lucky me, I caught the hot plate part and got my finger stuck on it!! It burned sooo bad! I was wildly trying to dislodge my finger meanwhile the straightener as BURNING me!! It gets SOOO hotttt. After I got my finger out (it was only about 5 seconds but that's a LONG time to touch a straightener on bare skin! dang.) I didn't feel anything for a while.... Then it started hurting and burning so badly!!! I was crying and jumping around trying to make it stop hurting. I couldn't (and still can't) feel the skin on my finger but when something touches it, a pain shoots through my entire finger! Guh.... Currently, (the day after I did it) my finger feels a bit better, but there's this feeling like here is plastic over it. Bleh. I'm never straightening my hair when she's over again. lol

The funny part is how hysterical I was... it was only a burn but one that HURT LIKE A SON OF A............

Does anyone have an idea on what Ican do to speed up the healing process? Will I ever be able to feel my finger again?!?! >.<

    Run it under lukewarm water.

cold water actually makes burns feel worse. the plastic feeling is just your skin... it probably died a little on when it was burned, but when new skin forms underneath it itll start peeling off. DONT put lotion over it, that traps the heat inside and makes it feel even worse, and definitely dont put on a band-aid, again itll trap the heat. just be very gentle with it, and eventually the feeling will come back. =)

That same thing happened to me but I dropped the HOT curling iron on my leg. My burn was pretty big and after a while it became this bubble and then it burst. Now I have a little scar where the burn was.

Thanks both of you! Yeah anyhing cold felt terrible and heat... I almost screamed lol. So no coverups on it.. Okay. And hopefully no bubble or scar! Anyone else have any ideas or stories to tell?

Lol Silly, but that did make me laugh in spite of pain! heh heh My hair didn't even stay straight yesterday... LOL Ohhhh well live and learn. Anyone have any stories about burns or hot things?

Once my mom, dad, brother and I went to Red Lobster (sea food place) and the waitress brough out my bro's food and said "Be careful the plate is SUPER hot, I wouldn't touch it just yet." he goes "okay" and grabs it with both hands!!!!! IDIOT! lol

  • omgitsmina

Yeah, I've done that before with a hot glue gun.

The glue is sticky, so it took me like 10 seconds before I could get it off.

And I burned my pointer finger on my left hand so I couldn't play my guitar for a week.

Plus it left a nasty scar.

  • Of Sweet Insanity

No guitar for a week?! Nooooo lol
That would hurt a lot! I burned the pointer finger on my right hand.... It's hard to type. Oh and my thumb a little but that one doesn't hurt that bad.

Lol I feel your pain, I am love to cook, i was baking and was pulling cookies out of the oven and ran my arm over the hot element. Still have the scar (not the only one) and it hurt like a b*tch. It blistered and scabbed. It took about 3 or 4 weeks to completely heal. just keep it clean, use some polysporin.

One day i made grilled cheese in a skillet instead of a pan... i was putting the cheese back in the bag and i ran my arm all the way across the skillet. i have a HUGE scar now that goes from a little under my wrist to almost my elbow.

another time my grandmother had JUST unplugged her curling iron, and she put it into her bag with the hot end sticking out so it wouldnt set her bag on fire. i was trying to open up a bottle and pulled too hard and i hit my elbow RIGHT ON her curling iron. >.<

Ouch you guys! Those sounds really painful.
I feel bad for the cows that get branded too... OUCH. Once my mom was in the bathroom so I went to the kitchen sink to wash my face (dont ask) and I turned on the hot water and put my hands uner it right away and it was SO hot that my hands flew up.. full of water... right into my face. OUCH. lol Any other stories? C'mon people!

    Ouch I'm sorry!!

My friend was talking on the phone & she was playing with her straightener, cause she thought it was unplugged. Then she absentmindedly clamped it on her TONGUE while she was listening to the other person. And yes... it was plugged in after all!

Haha it wasn't the smartest move ever made. I felt way bad for her.

Ouch...that must have hurt really bad.

One time I was messing around with my sister in the bathroom, we were trying to do eachother's hair (not a good idea sense we both are clutzy). Well, she reached out to tickle me and I moved, dropping the curling iron on her lap. It took about 10 seconds before either of us realized it. I still feel really bad about it.

I burned my finger one time when I took a hot oven tray out the oven. I was using a towel to hold it, but part of the towel slipped, so my index finger touched the [extremely] hot tray.

I knew exactly what you meant when you said it had a plastic-y feeling to it. It should get better in a few days. :]

Wow! These are great stories! I mean ouch of course but they are sorta like mine. ;) This morning I was straightening my bangs for school and I was SO freaking careful lol.... I had to go to the nurse so many times to get ice packs for my finger... Yup yup! I can't stand when I forget how hot my hair is (after straightening it) and it hits my face or I run my fingers through it.... Ow again! lol Life is a lot of ow's and ouches so it's a good thing "ouchies" heal. More stories!!!!!!

When I was younger I was ironing something and the iron slipped out of my hand and I tried to move my arm away from the iron to the other side of the table but I didn't move my arm quick enough and the tip of the iron hit my lower arm and boy did it hurt, but the scar eventually fadded away.

  • Of Sweet Insanity

Aww! That would reallllly suck!! I've never been buned by an iron for clothes, only for hair! >.< My finger feels SO MUCH BETTER and the "scar" is fading quickly! Yay! That everyone for telling my your stories and for letting me know what to do. ;)

At school in sewing class this one girl ironed her arm by accident. It was really red and began to bleed. She was sobbing so hard that someone had to practically carry her to the office :(

I have one burn story...was up one night drinking too much and had collage the next day, long story short i passed out at break so someone heated a lighter top up and pushed it hard onto my hand (i think there called smiles or summat) .
Well the metal melted into my skin and was stuck so after waking up during this, screaming & punching the puy several times i had to grab the lighter and tear it out, along with a few layers of skin.
Gave me a nice scar in the center of my hand.

My father told me of this time when he was a little kid one of his younger brothers (he has 3) was trying to throw a piece of plastic that he had caught on fire and he was trying to throw it onto a tree to see it burn but my father caught him and told him to stop, so he turned to my father and threw the burning piece of plastic at him. It hit my father on top of his hand near his knuckles and when he ripped the plastic off his hand he got a huge bubble. He still has the scar from it to this day.

Yeah the other day as i was getting ready for school my hair straighten was finally warmed up and stupid me i wasnt looking when i went to grab it. so it burned my fingers. now i have no feeling on 2 of my fingertips. its weird. haha.

but my worst burn was when i was at the pier about an hr from my house. i was there w/ my gma and cousin, and i said i wanted chai tea. so i got it hot, because they didnt sell cold (BIG MISTAKE). they told me it was hot, but silly me i forgot. and drank it. my tongue turned white and to this day i have a crack down my tongue from it. i couldnt drink/eat anything citris-y for months. it was terrible. and what worse. that chai tea really was so hot. the entire hr home i kept feeling it for heat. it was still the same hotness when i got home. and then we put it in the freezer for 30 minutes, and it was still warm. that is what i call a hot beverage...=/ ow

Aww im sorry. that really sucks for you.

last month i went to this dinner with a friend and they were serving spaggetti in some sorta of pastic plate. well the spaggetti was so hot that it was kinda melting the plate and when the person came to put it on the table for me the plate bent in half and all the hot spagetti fell all over my legs. it was so hot i almost cried. =(

lucky me i didn't have blister so im sure your straightner incident was so much worse.

Lmao, i was dancing in my room whilst getting ready to go out and i was in my dress and tights just waiting for my staightners to heat up when my mobile rang, i jumped across the bed to get it before it rang off and yep... stepped smack on my straightners.
It took a while to register though and by the time i realised my foot was burning it was too late. The tights had melted to my foot and left a lovely big red burn =)
Needless to say, no dancing that night, lol. Me and Marcus ended up staying in with his fussing about me all night so not all was lost. Hurt like hell though, lol

Lol. these stories are funny to me because so many sound like things i've done. anyway, my fingers still havent gone back to normal from last week. but yesterday i was standing next to a heater because i was cold. and i felt the need to touch it to see if it was hot (im stupid btw) anyway, so i put my finger on it and i didnt feel anything. so i left it there. then i felt it. ahah so now i have a burn on top of my burn. ahaha. yep.

Lols I'm so glad that I'm not the only one thst done things like this lmfao Burning yourself with a hair straightener hurts so bad! Except I burned my ear and neck lmfao Me and kitchens don't mix well either but I love to cook lols I was making pancakes for my family for dinner *I couldn't think of anything else lols* and I bumped the pancake turner that was resting on the pan lols Me, being me, went to grab it before it fell and grabbed the flat part of it between my wrists lmfao Had the imprint of the turner on my wrist for 2 weeks and it hurt like hell lols Then not more then 3 weeks ago I was cooking pancakes *again* and the butter splattered on my arm, had to have it wrapped to keep the med. on it and I had my friends coming up to me and asking if I'd tried to hurt myself on purpose lols I find that if you put Aloe on it all the time then it heals faster and is less likely to scar *thank gosh in my case with how much I hurt myself like this* lols I could write a book about all the little mishaps that I've had lmfao

  • skynerraw

Ok, well my mom, she has like killed the nerves in her hands, she preheats the oven to 400 deg. and once whatever is done cooking, she reaches her BARE hand in and grabs the pan!! Once, she was talking to my brother, and she had set her hand on the burner *it was on* and she didn't realize, she had a really bad burn on her hand, and she still has the scars. Oh and my brother got third degree burns from going down river lol. and I constintly*sp* get my ear caught in my straightener when I'm straightening my hair. lol.

Lols Yeah, I got 2 second degree burns this year from the sun! =P One was with my Youth Group and we were floating down a small river lols I was so red that I looked like a Firetruck lmfao And the second one was I was at the local racetrack watching the car race and it normally takes about 4 or 5 hours on race days till there done, I stayed in August sun with no shade for that whole time and when I got home I was in so much pain I could hardly get my 2 piece swimsuit off =P I still have the tan marks on my legs so I'm thinking I might've really burnt myself lols

When i was a wee child my nan decided to stick my head near a boiling tub of water with herbs in it to get me better, she kept pushing my head down and i flung back and tipped the boiling water all over my stomache. It burned it and blistered and scabbed, but thankfully it didn't scar :)

    Ahaha mike. (:

i burnt my mom with a curling iron today.
i was using hers instead of mine, and she's all selfish and whatnot. and i completely was being stupid shaking the curling iron at her for being selfish and hit her nose.

    it left a red mark.

and, i've burnt myself so many times. it's like impossible to start. but, i think the funniest one was when i sat on the stove and it was on. because my brother is stupid and never turns it off. our house will catch on fire one day.

    lol.

If you slide acros a carpet really fast, the friction builds quickly and it BURNS. I'd saw try it and see but I don't want you to hurt yourself. ^.-
All these stories are so painful!!!!
My finger is SO much better now! I can feel!! Yippee
But I didn't use my straightener for a long time.... heh heh
