If you were native (ojibway Indian) and some Caucasian student at your school keeps on harassing you at your high school, by saying hurtful things such as " you dirty Indian "or "go back to your rez"...what would you do about it ?
I deal with this racist person everyday and since I, myself am not racist...I completely ignore her rude, hurtful comments and simply go to the bathroom and cry...i am getting sick and tired of dealing with this person and I wish there was something I could do to make her leave me alone forever??any advice???(I already contacted the school principal and teachers and there are no changes to this day!!..i am in a very racist school where all the native must eat in a separate room from the others)

I'll be honest with you, and I don't expect you to deal with it the same way. If it were me .. I would put up with it for about 2 weeks then warn the person that the are getting on my nerves. If they continued I would more than likely lose my temper and knock some sense into him/her.

Sounds like you have followed the correct channels and it's go you no where.

Keep your head up, and don't let this ignoramus get you down. (I know easier said than done)

^^I have to agree with Dave. Talk until someone listens, no matter how high up the ladder you have to go. If you don't mind me asking, where abouts in Canada are you?

Well when I contacted the schools principal he was very upset about it and assured me he would deal with this situation but all he did was threaten to have her suspended if he heard that she any more racist comments towards me,this didn't stop her, instead she threatened me by saying that if I "snitched"her out again she would have me taken care of.
The fact that they make us eat in a separate room bothers me a lot but I think it might be because some of us natives donâ??t know how to get along with the other students..and they claim we donâ??t clean our own messes...i just don't understand...aren't we all the same?? tahnks for the support

It is nice that the principal showed some concern and said something, but it is continuing, so if he is not willing to go any further, go to the school board, your local member of parliment, hell email people all the way up to the Prime Minister, that's what I did when I needed something done. Write, write to the local paper and bigger papers, draw attention to it.

There are really people who are racist, we cant deny that fact, we cant change them, we cant force them to accept us.
life is always unfair, but we have no choice but to live with it. we either live to hate or hate to live.

    Dave I love you.

Personally, I would beat the sh!& out of him/her. I am only half-native american...so unfortunatly I look sort of white. I don't face much ridicule because of the school I go to, and because most people are scared of me anyways. but still,
you want me to come over there and beat them down 4 u?

Its nice that we all can share in the proud tradition that is "Native American culture" but the fact is racism exists...Today, and will forever exist, as long as we all are equal, and slavery is abolished.

Again we must look at it from a racist's perspective....

Why do they hate another culture:

    1) Insecurity
    2) Self esteem Issues
    3) Trained by their primary and secondary socializations (parents, peers)
    4) Hatred out of necciessity (sp)...(Palestinians and Israelies)

There are many reasons why one hates another, but again...I am just saddened that our future children will have to suffer it as well.

Thats sooo mean... From what you said about seperating you at lunch, that means school athorities are involved... you need to either switch schools or go to a higher athority like the ministry of education.

I dont try to be violent all the time. but i just stand up for myself is all. I know that violence wont solve anything.
But from what I know and where I live, talking doesn't do much good, either. I've tried. Other people have tried. Nothing has changed, it may have even gotten worse.

And, please forgive, I meant no harm from my previous comment on looking a bit white-its just a bit complicated. In most parts of where I live, its not a very...good thing.
but thats no excuse- I shouldnt have said that in the first place.

Humanity won't change. Its a lost cause. we just get by however we can. There will always be struggle, because humans can not co-exist in harmony. And thats just the way things are, aren't they?

Do not place racists in the same category as us... that's generalising the whole world for another person's idiocy...

There are those that hate needlessly but there are many who accept and love endlessly...

    Remember that...

That is true, but with so much of this unnecessary negativity in this world- it blinds me sometimes from the small flecks of light that are left.
