Labeled emo...by my family

My dad called me some pretty mean names a few months ago and I haven't been able to forget it. I went to my room and cried and everyone though I was being unreasonable. I don't think they quit understand what 'emo' means, and what it means to be labled it. My mom knows but she doesn't seem to care

I don't know what it means either, so fill me in, I always figured it was just this generations Goth.

I know how being labled something your not can effect you.
When i was in collage everyone there listened to rap music and i was the only one who listened to rock/metal music and because of that was branded a Satanist, This was quite upsetting for me because some of the guys were also old school friends who jumped on the bandwagon.
That was 2 years ago and thanks to them im still branded a Satanist and now there is a huge pentagram design on my bedrom wall...hehe it freaks them out every time they see it :D

Just because you get called something, does'nt mean that's what you are, and it does'nt mean that is what you have to be either.
You know who you are and thats what matters the mostm i'm sure your dad doesnt mean to upset you either.

I THINK THAT IF YOU ARE HURT BY WHAT YOUR DAD SAID YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO BE MAD. YOU SHOULDN'T BE LABELED AS EMO IF YOU ARE NOT. MANY PEOPLE DO THE SADME THING TO ME AND I'M NOWHERE CLOSE TO BEING EMO. I HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE THAT WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

I am new to this site and probably should not offer a answer but here goes. 1 showing your emotions is good if you didn't the good and bad would eat you up, and your dad having a pop at you for it sounds that he is frightened of his emotions therefore lacking respect for himself. Iam disabled and I cry quite a bit for what I have lost, but I have not lost my my respect in allowing myself to express my motions when needed. if I spoke out of turn sorry shytortise

Ask her what there definition of emo is, everyone has there own definition of emo it seems, there is no set dictionary definition.

maybe she's not trying to be as hurtful as you think, maybe your perception of the word emo is different from hers, and your reacting to your own skewed definition.

when you find out, ask yourself, is this me? is this label understandable in the position she's in?

if it really is meant to hurt your feelings, and that's not who you are, tell them calling you emo makes you feel emo, kind of like: i am who you say i am.

A few days ago, i decided that the next time someone called me emo, I would say "I'm only the person you decide to see," or something.

I don't even know why people label others. i think being labeled is the worst, and it can be very hurtful. my mother has called me emo, and the fact that she thinks thats only a kind of music makes me very angry when she calls me that. i wish everyone would just be, and not go around categorizing people.

I am emo, but i am true to myself i accept it i live my head up high and yeh words to me have double meaning unlike the average joe, its just how i am but i know how to control it, dont let name calling get to you even if its your family think about it prove em wrong girl prove em wrong shit might hurt shit might make you cringe over your shadow but go ahead go nuts why prove em right

the things that cant kill you as cliche as its gonna sound it will.. make you stronger idk if you got a man a boyfriend but think about the people who care about you who respect you let them feed your reason and if you dont then thats the biggest challange get faster and get stronger!!! haha i love talking blah but not preaching hey ive been labeled weird strange fucked up pathetic waste of money waste of food by my father but as much as i hate him i love em and you got to show em you gotta prove em wrong!!

Well if you dont think ur emo dont worry bout wat ur dad says....my dad called me a slut and that the path i was goen down i was goen to end up pregnant....even tho i WASNT haven sex......o well idc if he thinks it w/e i dont and thats all that matters!

Just stay strong. As I said before, I have too been labeld "emo" but it's just a name. Yes it hurts but if we really want to we can get over it. I'm not saying that you are not trying but it is possible.

Well emo is just a word it really doesn't mean anything but there are people that hates call them slef emo of other people

Emo was orinigally a musical term but yes it is short for EMOtional. being emotional is not a bad thing. it just means you have a heart and care. honestly i know it hurts to have a parent judge you, believe me ive been there many times. but you know who you are and if your comfortable with that, then why does it matter what anyone think. even your parents.

Ah try not to worry about it so much I know that can see quite hard and times but I honestly know how you feel I myself get labeled emo by my own family as well and I can tell you it's not a nice thing :) I know.
But hun to be honest with you their opinion of who you are doesn't count and seeing as they are family they honestly don't know you then.

It doesn't matter what other people think of you it's what you think of yourself

I mean yah some of lables are really mean but ive been called emo and i just said right back to them "yah i am" because i am emotional and i do tend to listen to that kind of music, just dont let other people bring u down like that...just be yourself no matter what others say because otherwise u might become jsut like everyone else...

my family calls me emo to and when i laugh or smile its a surprise to themm BUTT YAHH i know what you mean emo IS JUST A WORDDD dont let it bother you...
